King Kaufman's Sports Daily

Dear readers: This misunderstood columnist owes you a Terrell Owens-style apology. Sor-ree. Jeez.

The letters thread is now closed.

DIsgust

So which was the more disgusting? Terrell Owen's disingenuous non-apology or his suck-up lawyer's over-medicated cheerleading? I wish I knew what that lawyer was on, so I could just say no if my doctor ever prescribed that drug.

What Owens could have done ...

He could have fired Drew Rosenhaus.

Then he could say, "I'm sorry. I've been following some bad advice. My Super Bowl performance was good, but we didn't win the game, so how good was it, really? I don't deserve a new contract until we win the Super Bowl. ... Oh, and one more thing. I'm sorry I keep exaggerating my injuries. My teammates deserve better."

T.O.

What really irks me about TO's speech yesterday is how he continually demonstrates a complete inability to acknowledge the error of his words. This may be splitting hairs, but how he phrases his McNabb apology for (something to the effect of) "any words that may've been taken as negative" instead of saying "my negative words" still shows how he clearly won't take ownership for his actions, instead just expressing remorse for the responses of others to his misguided actions.

These backhanded apologies by pro athletes are as infuriating as the actions they're apologizing for.

Pack of Syphilitic Howler Monkeys

I am sorry that I got caught by my boss reading King Kaufman's Sports Daily due to the fact that I emitted loud barking laughter over numerous phrases, including "pack of syphilitic howler monkeys." I deeply apologize for the fact that I am not supposed to be reading King's column during the work day. I regret any distress my reprimand may have caused myself.

T.O.'s "apology"

The thing I found bizarre about his agent's apology was T.O.'s body language in the background. He was standing there with his arms folded, as if he was being put upon to be at the news conference. He looked bored.

He still doesn't get it, does he?

Can we be done with T.O now?

King's apology was great. The first thing I've read or heard about T.O recently that didn't give me a "mall headache" (you know, the headache you get the instant you realize how miserable you are being stuck in a mall with your girlfriend or wife and a million other people who seem to be wandering around aimlessly). I am so sick of this soap opera. At some point T.O may realize that the problem is every time he has something he wants to say to his team, he holds a press conference instead of telling the people involved. T.O. actaully seemed pitiful yesterday, but then as soon as he finished Rosenhaus got up there and ran his mouth off, talking trash about the very people T.O. just apologized to!

As to the Beatpaths, that site is hilarious! The graphs are fun and I wouldn't be surprised if they were completely made up. My favorite thing is on the explanation page where he has some crazy, ultra-busy graph with lines going every which way, then says, 'remove the beatloops and you get a much simpler graph' and the next graph is just as nuts as the last. Awesome. I was upset to find out that my NY Giants managed to climb higher in the rankings with this weekends win, but didn't close any of their beatloops! DAMN!

Beatpaths

While I admire the tenacity it most of taken to design those "Beatpath" graphs, to me they can be described as follows: "Hey, does football ever remind you of complicated college math classes that you almost failed? Well, if you look at it THIS way, it will!" But whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Can we move on to something else now...

Let's see.

TO was a jerk in San Fran.

He was a jerk when he tried to leave San Fran.

He was a jerk when he refused to join the Ravens.

He was a jerk after the Super Bowl.

He was a real jerk for trying to get more money even though he had a valid, signed contract.

He was a jerk in the pre-season.

He was a jerk during the season.

And now, he's a suspended jerk.

OK, he's proven his point. He's a real jerk. I no longer care.

I am so much more interested in cheerleaders getting arrested for having sex in a bathroom stall and punching out those that complain.

I swear, wasn't that a Bud Light commercial...or was it Miller Lite?

TO

OK, OK. Unfortunately sometimes there are people who have wonderful physical skills and motor coordination that makes them into sports stars, even though mentally, intellectually, and socially they are functioning at a very low level.

They earn lots of money because we, the public, or some of us, are willing to pay to see them play.

If the people who advise them cared for them at all, they would keep them out of the eyes of the public, except when they are actually playing.

The history of sport is full of idiots and jerks who were never found out because they kept their mouths shut.

Forget TO. How about them TopCats ? and advice for Miller Lite

Dear King

Please forget about TO. I am scared , because Gary Myers said today in the Daily News that the Jets should hire TO. If you keep talking about it , you are giving the Jets (no)Brain Trust Ideas.

Instead why are you not writing an indepth investigative article about Renee Thomas and Angela Keathley ?

What really went on there ?

Miller Lite are you listening? The twins are so passe. THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED BY RENEE THOMAS AND ANGELA KEATHLEY.

A Jets fan who loved those Miller Lite Twins

Disturbed

Is there a chance that Owens is not just a jerk, but that he actually has a serious and diagnosable psychological/behavioral disorder? By no means am I trying to excuse his actions, but for some time now they do not seem to be those of a rational and functioning person. I'm not a psychologist and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, so I'd be very interested to hear someone who has some expertise in the field address the issue. It just looks to me like "something ain't right"--he has something repressed in there that is getting completely in the way of any kind of decision making.

Rosenhaus, on the other hand, is a jerk.
