  • I guess I'm a liberal softie

but I find this kinda sweet. (I support Obama, though.)

  • Corny? So?

Alex, I don't know how old you are, or whether you've ever lived paycheck to paycheck, but the stories are actually really nice. I am having trouble seeing things from your angle here. Though they may seem corny to you, these are stories about real people putting pennies they can't well afford into the donation jar. And you are clearly NOT Hillary's demographic, so whether it speaks to you or not is irrelevant. I'm not quite her demographic either, but I'm a mother, and I've been poor, and the family I left behind in Ohio still is. I thought this was a pretty brilliant way to point out that Hillary gets strong support from Regular Folks - her only real defense against the argument that she can't win the general election. Didn't do a damn thing to convince me to vote for her (especially since she didn't show up to defend my civil liberties today), but I can see beyond that - and the corniness - to the underlying marketing brilliance.

  • eh?

I'm sorry, but you lost me at "after the fold."

    Y'all.

  • Heart full of what?

I don't think it's corny; it's good PR, especially the packaging of it. Starts with a sentimental lead-in letter; then goes to a group of Latin women for Hillary; then a middle-aged woman's letter for Hillary; then a stellar photo of Chelsea* and Hillary and the crowd in front of a huge American flag; then a letter from a poor father of two; then a giant Mainstreet USA kind of marquee for Clinton; then a female student's letter for Clinton; then Clinton writing on a school message board; then a letter from an old voter and veteran for Clinton...and so on.

Each picture and letter carefully chosen to constitute a slice of her electorate. It's good all-American PR, like a slow-motion campaign ad. I don't know if they used the same photographer for every shot, but the photographs are great.

*and, looking at Chelsea with her mom, I think she looks like she could be presidential, shades of her dad's effortless charisma in her -- Chelsea Clinton for President, 2016.

  • I donated

I liked it and donated again.

  • Golly, Daddy Warbucks...

This reminds me of a classic dilemma which I learned in college.  The biggest problem with artificial sweeteners is not making them strong enough, but being able to dilute them to the point they won't be too sweet.

It also reminds me of Oscar Wilde's quote on Dickens' Old Curiosity Shop, "One must have a heart of stone to read the death of little Nell without laughing".

The only thing missing is a little girl crying and her puppy licking the tears away.

  • I thought it ham-handed panhandling.

As one who donated to the Clinton campaign, I received that email. I thought it was tacky and insincere. My guess is that the "letters" are fake. Each one of them screamed, "Send money!" which is not what I expect from a "warm note" and photo album thanking me for my support.

Next she'll be sending out images of Sally Struthers standing in a group of starving kids and begging for donations so that Hillary can save the children.

    I thought it was insulting.

  • SO WHAT?!?!?

This "article" is a waste of space but at least it's better than reading Paglia.
