and that's why we love Joe.

In a sea of liers it's nice to have someone speak the truth once in a while.

WTF?

In what way is this a "gaffe?"

Biden was at a fundraiser, he's trying to fire up a crowd about the importance of the next election in order to raise money, what he said was true, and the big deal is....?

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 07:27 AM

How is this wrong?

"They [Russia] have a shrinking population base, they have a withering economy, they have a banking sector and structure that is not likely to be able to withstand the next 15 years, they're in a situation where the world is changing before them and they're clinging to something in the past that is not sustainable."

And this is wrong.....how? That seems to me like a reasonable take on today's Russia.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 07:38 AM

O/T, but what the...???

Did anyone notice that Tom DeLay wore a ***brown shirt*** on his Dancing with the Stars debut? Perhaps setting a style note for the base?

Washington DC's definition of a "gaffe"

Somebody actually told the truth!

I might add that up through FDR's presidency, it was quite common for VPs to change from one term to another. It's only in the age of the Imperial Presidency that changing the VP has become a sign of a dysfunctional president instead of a sign of a vibrant democracy. Maybe that says something about us.

Go Joe Go

I think the imperfect Biden is a perfect counterpoint to a man whose bearing sometimes seems too perfect and I get tired of people blaming him for saying pretty truthful things: I don't think this was a gaffe--I think it was a warning. Let's see a vice-president who occasionally says truthful things he should probably keep quiet or one who not only publically lies in good form but manipulates the country to try and make those lies true? I'm proud to call Joe Biden my Vice-President. And though I would have been happy to HRC as vice-president, picking Biden was one of things that made this reluctant Obama supporter, trust his judgement.

Count me as another Biden fan

I think Obama is doing as well as anyone could possibly do in dealing with the devastating aftermath of an 8-year disaster. But it's lovely to know that there is one person in this administration that we can count on to say exactly what's true.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 07:55 AM

Count me as a fan reinforced

I don't see that Biden has said anything that could be labeled a gaffe. His comment on Russia was true and, while it may not have been diplomatic, perhaps that is why he is not Secretary of State. His comment about the the teleprompter seems to me to be a joke about the hubbub over Obama's teleprompter use. All the rest are nothing worth our concerns, in that they are true, just those of a message-machine White House. I thought we were trying to move away from that to a more transparent administration.

If these quotes represent cause for alarm in the current administration, I question my vote for the ticket knowing they are so thin-skinned and averse to open honesty.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 07:56 AM

rather than dogpiling a reasonably honest man

Take what he said and run with it. Much as the democrats disappoint me on everything from campaign finance reform to torture, I sure don't want the repugs to take their place.

Ridiculous Post

I have no problem with what Biden said at all - as someone said above, we should be grateful that someone is speaking the truth at a time like this. Democrats need to realize that the entirety of Obama's agenda rests on keeping the House, and defeating Republican momentum now.

You focus on all the gaffes, but this is exactly what (good) Vice Presidents have always done - been a little too blunt in public when their boss, for the sake of decorum, can't be.

I could do without War Room parroting beltway self-involvement - there's quite enough of that on the networks, thanks.

Rock on, Joe.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 07:59 AM

oh, please..

Rahm probably told him to say that, in those exact words. the WH has been protecting the blue dogs in the House at every turn, this is more of the same.

Great comical blowhard...

What is scary is that we are a heartbeat away from President Biden, and ever scarier, we are 2 hearbeats away from...gulp...President Pelosi. Biden is a guy I would love to go have a beer with and BS about life, but not the guy I want in the White House. Anyone would have been better, but much less entertaining. For the right, he is the gift that keeps on giving...for the President, he is the headache that keeps on speaking. The President definitely would like to press the reset button on that one.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 08:02 AM

not a gaffe.

when its the straight truth.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 08:05 AM

I think Biden is a very likable guy. But...

...making gaffes this frequently poses a problem for someone who could become president on a moment's notice. There's a balance between being charmingly frank and unscripted on the one hand and not saying things that could get us into serious hot water internationally or otherwise. He doesn't seem to have learned this lesson, which is at least part of the reason he'll never be given more rope by the White House with which to hang himself.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 08:12 AM

Personally I like it

He may not always say things as well as he should or he may say things he shouldn't, but I find that both endearing and honest. When he speaks, I tend to trust him because he doesn't hold back.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 08:14 AM

We need more such gaffes

He's dead on correct, and it's entirely possible that the Republicans could make huge gains in 2010...if there's a low voter turnout. The Democrats better fire up their base and keep them happy. If Democrats aren't moved to go to the pols in 2010 then there's big trouble. Passing a healthcare reform bill with a public option WITHOUT Republican support would slam the door shut on the GOP.

Biden told the unvarnished truth and it needs to be spoken.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 08:17 AM

So......

What's the point of this? They're going to dump Biden in 2010? I honestly don't know why I even bother to read War Room. is this reporting or what exactly?

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 08:19 AM

Self-Perpetuating Press

Yes, everyone knows that Biden can't keep his mouth shut. That's common knowledge. So let's drum up some quotes to support what we have already determined is true. You could easily go back to any VP's time in office and come up with "gaffes" that equal or exceeds Biden's. For that matter, you could easily find the same number of gaffes by parsing Obama's words.

Like others, I can't see anything alarming or wrong with the comments recently cited. Why is it such a bad thing to state that a turnover toward the GOP in 2010 would derail Obama's agenda? As was stated in the article, we're talking about the obvious. Why can't democrats also use scare tactics to ensure their representatives get elected? We're not talking about made up death panels or a socialistic take over. Biden is sending warnings out about a real danger.
