Man, Bill Buckley must be spinning in his grave!

This is what passes for conservative discussion these days? The bimbo from SNL says in perfect seriousness that Rush Limbaugh should be president, while Hannity vouches for her every step of the way. "Yep! She's right!" And then "Larry the Cable Guy is up next!" It's pretty sad.

No Surprise

When you read the headline ("A former SNL star says the President wants to kill America's grandmothers") who didn't think of Victoria Jackson?

Wednesday, July 8, 2009 09:27 AM

re: She was a lot funnier on SNL

I think she's plenty funny right NOW.

Who, besides really truly insane people, takes her seriously? No one. I mean...euthanasia?

So come on, people, laugh! That's exactly what you're supposed to do when you read this, and it's exactly what she deserves.

If she's actually serious, and this isn't some self-parody, then NOBODY cares what she thinks. NOBODY!

Ms. Jackson and her fat mouth.....

She already has reservations at a local rehab clinic (Malibu) for 2010...the whole year...First six months of therapy includes crazy-gluing her mouth shut....

Upcoming right wing commentators

Earnest from the "Earnest Goes To Camp" movies

The guy who played Dean Wormer on Animal House

Oscar the Grouch

As the GOP races to the bottom, they're gonna have to take anyone they can get.

Wow

To really be "fair and balanced," Fox would have had to have plucked the dimmest, most incoherent babbler from any of the many protests over the past 8 years, and had that person on set for 3 minutes, to express their views.

I don't think they ever did that.

But that's the only explanation I can devise- that somehow they owed the opposition 3 minutes of crazy.

@Nathan Coker: Next time do 1) the Math; and 2) Google

1) your claim that a 2 year gap is an "insignificant difference" can be shown to be false by a simply finger excercsie. In order for Sweden to erase its 2 year life expentancy advantage such that it has the same life expenctancy as the US, it would have to kill about 270,000 of its own citizen every year when they reach age 65

2) The CDC releases life expectancy data by race, if you use teh google and look up the number, you will find that even controlling for race Us lags Sweden by about... 2 years.

After watching the video...

There's no way. I don't buy it. I don't care what she writes, says, broadcasts. She is a comedienne. This is all fake. I cannot believe that they would let her on to make 'conservatives' look as stupid as she looks.

Then again, when I think of Sarah Palin's Farewell Speech...

@clone12

If thats true, then why you didn't you link to it?

Why look it up, make the claim, and then not bother posting your evidence?

I'm not doubting you, but geez.

@paulspd:

"Ernest"'s real name was Jim Varney, and he was an accomplished actor as well as a professional buffoon, and much more importantly, he was NOT a conservative of any stripe. I liked his work tremendously, and would hate to see his name mixed with these idiots'.

Thank you.

"Reliable" Statistics

Sourced from the United Nations Statistics Division, the following places (in alphabetical order) have a "life expectancy from birth" that is higher than the United States (in the range between 78 to 80 years old):

Australia

Canada

France

Gibraltar

Hong Kong (China)

Iceland

Ireland

Israel

Italy

Japan

Macao (China)

Malta

Netherlands

New Zealand

Norway

Singapore

Spain

Sweden

Switzerland

Turks and Caicos Islands

From the same source, the following countries (in alphabetical order) have the same "life expectancy from birth" as the USA:

Austria

Belgium

Channel Islands

Cuba

Cyprus

Germany

Greece

Luxembourg

Martinique

San Marino

United Arab Emirates

United Kingdom

United States of America

From this I will make two observations:

(1) All of the countries listed above have similar life expectancies (77 to 80 years old) and I don't believe it's fair to attribute any differences as "significant" (statistically or otherwise) or to the quality of the health care systems involved.

(2) Having lived in 4 of the non-American countries (if that's not too awkward a way of putting it) listed above, I can reliably report that so-called "public" or "socialized" health care is the best-kept secret in the world...from Americans. Trust me when I say that the United States could easily institute a comparable system without incurring a greater chance of killing off anyone's Grandma. (But please don't tell anyone in the countries listed above that I spilled the beans...)

is it an act?

I've been reading off and on about Jackson for years and have wondered if it's all an act. Anyone have any idea? I've seen her Christian web site. Would be a shame if she really buys all this stuff.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009 09:47 AM

@BeatnikBob

Apologies to you and Earnest. I pulled his name out of the blue, feeling like I needed to have 3 examples. To be honest, I'm not sure about Oscar the Grouch's politics either.

@clone12

The CDC releases life expectancy data by race, if you use teh google and look up the number, you will find that even controlling for race Us lags Sweden by about... 2 years.

I used "teh google" so to speak, and I don't see these stats you're claiming. In fact, racial demographics of Sweden are not as clear as they are here. It's hard enough to find the number of black people living in Sweden, let alone their average life expectancy.

So I'm calling bullshit on your claim until you prove me otherwise.

Victoria Jackson

I know her through a mutual friend. She's completely bonkers. She also cheats on her husband.

Nathan Coker: The Excercise Was Left For the Student

There is nothing magical with the query "life expectancy by race" if you really want it:

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hus/hus08.pdf#026

But you don't need CDC data to realize that black males can't numerically drag down life expectancy by a huge amount- they make up about 5% of the population, They literally need to have a life expectancy of about 5 to fully account for that 2 year gap.

@Coker

So I'm calling bullshit on your claim until you prove me otherwise.

Nathan, this suggests that your opinion is mutable depending on compelling arguments and coherent logic. You and I and everyone here knows that is false. If you haven't modified any of your opinions in the face of having them refuted here time and again, it's obvious you're not going to. Republicans are impervious to the truth, as they continually demonstrate.
