Thanks dwg

Whew--boy, the overcooked "she is an eagle now, let her fly" and "glory" and "fighting the Nazis" stuff from her supporters is really treacly. It reminds me of that John Ashcroft song, "Let the Eagle Soar."

The pose is odd--if they'd paid more attention to us liberal media types, they would have noticed that whenever we want to make a woman look like a martyr, we pose her so that we can see her face, staring off into the distance with a courageous, yet sad look of disappointment at the more small-minded people in the world.

That Sarah Barracuda thing

Maybe an ichthyologist could tell us if barracudas are really such crybabies.

Future tense?

--The all seeing eye of Televsion is not kind -- ask the graduates of any reality TV show if TV didn't highlight every imperfection and character flaw

--Sarah will wilt under the spotlight's heat...

Looks as if she's already wilted, eh? :D)

Goddamn, what an ignorant twerp she is

", detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the “politics of personal destruction”."

Excuse me, you ignorant slut - but have you listened to your rabid talkshow host fans like limbaugh, hannity, or ingraham? Their entire schtick is the politics of personal destruction.

PS, you fucking dimwit - if you had said why you were quitting instead of offering only vague, rambling, semi-coherent bumpersticker phrases, maybe people would consider what you did "honorable," instead of what it looks like - just plain cowardly.

Not cowardly

Just nuts.

Yeah, I don't get the pose. Maybe an attempt to give her a kind of mythic or iconic stature, like Alfred Hitchcock's profile. Many of the site comments are essentially projections onto her of wildly exaggerated qualities the posters are wishing for - messianic leadership qualities that she doesn't embody and certainly hasn't earned. Maybe a head shot is too specific.

Creepy stuff.

May be getting close to the guys with the white jacket time

She sounds very paranoid. I hope she's seeing a professional.

Boy, ain't it the truth

That says it, yes. The way that they launch into this sort of language at any opportunity actually made me want to leave them in peace to wax Bulwer-Lyttonish, not that I ever go to these freeper sites to troll. I've met people like this from time to time, who obviously have this Glory, Flag, Apple Pie image, which is not threatened by George W. Bush trying to take away the troops' hazard pay, as he tried to do, but which is threatened by critical thinking. Time for a new anthem: The Erection of the Eagle. We chub you, Sarah! And as God is our witness, we shall never turtle again!

Must confess I had to look up the Bulwer-Lytton reference and so found the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest site. What a www.treasure! That'll keep me busy for days. Thanks for the introduction.

Happy 4th everyone, while a few minutes still remain........

Sunday, July 5, 2009 12:05 AM

No worries!

Happy 4th, too. It did take me a minute to remember Bulwer-Lytton's name (although we probably all remember "It was a Dark and Stormy Night" from Peanuts). There may be better examples that take in the corny, crooning, flag-flying, Tits Out for the Homeland sort of imagery.

My Country, My People

While it's technically the 5th, I'm just going down so, for me, it's the 4th. I spent the evening here in LA, CA, with people I campaigned with in former red states. They came to spend the 4th in very blue Venice, CA.

I just want to say thank you people, my people, for all this. For the 1st time in 30 years I give a crap about July 4th & I'm rolling on the floor laughing reading what you have to say about the SS Palin. What a f*cking joy to finally see my country filled with all youse guys. I knew you were out there. Wait! We ARE the ones we were waiting for. Let's not ever give it back to the other people. This is too damn productive and, well, hilarious, to give up.

I still think

she believes it is her duty, her calling, to prepare the faithful for the Great and Dreadful Day of the Lord. Prepare for Armageddon, get Alaska ready to be the final refuge for the saved, rally the faithful throughout the land, and, also, all that stuff.

I remember when she said God had "called" her to be governor of Alaska. But then it turned out He really "called" her to be the VP of this great Christian nation [patent pending]. No, no, wait, that was PP, not VP; He meant to say Phinal Prophet.

That God. What a kidder.

Seriously, though, the scary thing is that she will gather some wingnuts together and they will believe that whatever anguish they cause, whatever hate and fear they spread, and whatever blood they spill is done righteously "in the name of the Lord." As the economy continues to tumble and times get tougher, wackadoos and zealots like this will gain wider traction than they would otherwise. When my boss praised her during the presidential campaign, I remarked on her singular lack of coherence, to which he responded that "God uses the apparently foolish to move His ways forward." I later heard this sentiment from an alarming number of others, people who beforehand I would have guessed had more sense.

Palin

What an absolute nut case!! How long would she have lasted as McCain's VP?

Sunday, July 5, 2009 04:48 AM

But...

But wanting to 'spend time with your family' is the political kiss of death for a republican politician. It's a screaming signal that something either went wrong or is about to go horribly wrong.

How many in the Bush administration, with indictments coming, decided they wanted to 'spend more time with their families' and exited the political stage.

And it's funny when you have read all of the other reports of staff and friends and family NOT knowing of her plans to quit yet another political job.

The message is, if the 'bloggers are attacking my family' meme is right, is that she can't take the heat. Being a sitting president. quitting and running for the hills (or Argentina) to hide from the stress isn't an option...

There is smoke in the air and blood in the water. Perhaps stepping down is to spare her massive ego the thrashing that she would get in the press and the public. It is telling, the power of right-wing echo chamber enforcers, by how revered she is amongst the politically stupid and morally inept.

Palin as any elected official in the future spells utter epic failure. She's like the runaway bride after all... Bolting when the truth sets in at the least and a crass and theatrical political hack at the most. The problem is, her megalomaniacal statements aside, this 'cut and run' isn't positively playable by even Karl Rove... Drinking your OWN Kool-Aid isn't advisable.

Her as president? Then my dog is over qualified...
