Does she not know?

People cannot read minds. She must speak or write what she's thinking for others to know it.

Not telling us what this higher calling is and how it will benefit the country yet expecting everyone to think it's worth abandoning your sworn commitment is deserving of ridicule.

Perhaps this explains her rambling and incoherent speaking style; she expects people to get it because she, with the benefit of uncommunicated thoughts, gets it.

Shudder

She's got one political trick -- do something unexpected -- and she hopes she can ride such a pony into national office.

I know I would want that in a President - someone who likes to shake things up every once in a while, AND has the military and the nukes at their fingertips.

The Palinists

Weren't these Palin fanatics the same ones who blathered about Obama supporters treating him as if he were the messiah. I'm sure the hypocrisy is lost on them

I think I finally get it

Palin has done more in 2.5 years as governor than any other Alaskan could have done in 8 years. If we are too dense to see that, it can only be because we're applying requirements to her we would not have required of anyone else. But since it's true that she has achieved everything her state could need, she is now ready to promote herself to a new job of her own choosing. If we disagree with that, then we love neither God nor Our Country.

20% of Americans will buy this logic and happily embrace her in her new incarnation, whatever it may be. The rest of us better get ready for daily tantrums from Ms. Sarah. Only the Republican Party leadership can put us out of our misery; the news agents of America are clearly not up to the task of ignoring her.

A narrow escape.

There is no doubt at all that politics does not always attract the best, brightest, sane and honorable; if it did the name A Hitler would have only rung a very vague bell to a few collectors of obscure second rate art. Palin is such an individual. America is going through a period where there could be considerable vulnerability to the ignorant ideology of witch doctors like Palin and is very lucky indeed to have a leader of Obama’s wisdom and character. Except for the truly deranged the contrast is night and day. I suppose democracy is about choice; but beware, the road to third world status is straight and wide and has signs that say; “This way to heaven” and "Values ahead" and “Soon you will enter the land of no government intervention and perfect free enterprise” You will know when you get there; the houses are wallpapered with IOUs and no one collects the rubbish.

What's potentially humorous

Is that if no scandal is pending, that she did this thinking that it would be a politically smart move. AND it didn't occur to her until afterwards that people might not take her resigning due to pressure from the press, positively.

Saturday, July 4, 2009 07:31 PM

What a tedious, tedious person...

and she'll probably never go away...we'll see her every few years doing something embarrassing to herself and her country like some sad nostalgic classmate at a ten year reunion, still re-livng high school as everyone else moves on....

Run, Sarah, Run. Pretty Please?

Sarah Palin, Dahlin': please run for the presidency in 2012. I beg you! If you say yes, I'll go to the gym everyday, become a vegan, and stay away from demon rum, generally take good care of myself so I'll be around to see it! It would be sooooo sweet to see you debate President Obama. Go for it, girl!

Good riddance

When the going gets tough, the tough...

Whine and quit??

Wish she had some decent education!

Whatever her skills are, she lacks basic communication skills. We dont expect our leaders to be great orators (not anymore anyways), but being comprehensible should be a requirement.

As for media's response to her resignation, most of it seems pointless with everybody conjuring up a new reason for the resignation without a single shred of evidence supporting their theory.

As for her becoming President, I would not write that off. We have a death-wish as evidenced by Bush becoming President twice.

One happy person

I bet Tina Fey can't believe her luck. You betcha!!!!!!

Hm...

the same Palin fanatics who blathered on about how Obama supporters treated him like the Messiah--I'm sure the hypocrisy is lost on them

-- kgirl

I don't know--look at the way that GOP supporters debate here. There is absolutely no shortcoming for which they are flamed, that they don't immediately accuse liberals of possessing, even if there is no evidence to support their accusation, and tons to support ours.

I don't think hypocrisy is lost on them--It might be avidly embraced policy.

..."her base...?" -- Alden

Well the poster below who visited the Conservatives4Palin website said that--wait, did you really say they were trying to compare her with Jesus? Moses? And Caesar?

Three very intelligent people, and not people who quit under a bit of criticism, either. Though the first two could be hard to understand.

Geez--I was just going to post, "maybe she wants to start her own religion!", thinking I was being very original. Then I read the other posts, and at least two others had already guessed at that. Maybe we're right? Think about it: she hasn't enough votes to be elected President (God help us) or Senator, probably; unlike the office of Vice President, if someone thought seriously about giving her a cabinet position, like Secretary of State, it'd take about one interview before Congress to make her an even bigger laughingstock than she already is;* and yet, she does have enough supporters to form a good, strong religious following, and they defend her vociferously against any and all criticism from "outsiders," who, in her own words, "don't understand" her, even if it is her own logic that is fallacious, and the criticisms are quite well-grounded.

(*Sarah Palin as chief diplomat! "Ms. Palin, how would you address such and such?" "Oh, well, when you're in charge of all sorts of things, you know, like about foreign policy, you know, like if or when I should say that I'm in charge of foreign policy, which is, you know foreign governments, you can't just go and, like some people would go, who, I know there are some people in the press who seem to think that you should appease a Hitler. But I think that the American people, I mean the real American people, understand what a lot of people in the press, not speaking about you--" "Uh--but Ms. Palin, we're Congresspeople, not journalists." "Thank you, Ms. Palin. Let's, uh--recess.").
