What was Sarah Palin thinking?

No one knows why the governor's resigning, or what she'll do next -- but her base likes the move

My dear Numbat,

72 percent of people who diagnose someone in a chat room with Borderline or Narcissistic Personality Disorder, have in fact been diagnosed with Borderline or Narcissistic Personality Disorder my a Mental Health Care Professional within the previous 18 months.

MissButterfly

She's probably the last regular/normal person you'll see run for higher office.

Please select your favored response:

- If that's normal the nation is doomed.

- You have a poor opinion of the average American, don't you?

- Let's hope you're right.

- Maybe you mean the low end of a normal range.

And I think I've finally figured out why leftists attack her with such venom - it's because it bothers her conservative supporters and gets a reaction from them.

Paranoids are easily provoked, yes, but that's not the reason. As a national candidate she was a danger to the country. Conversely, as a danger to the GOP she's actually quite welcome.

Progressives approve of Palin's actions here and hope she'll continue to be an embarrassment to conservatives, if not a thorn in their sides which later becomes a festering open wound. Democrats do have control of both the House and Senate but unfortunately corporatist conservatives still have wide majorities.

NOT MUCH!

The difference between a Rush Limbaugh Dittohead and a Sarah Palin is "Trailer Park Trash" and the "stupidest woman in politics" Dittohead?

@philhooper

Notice you're allowed to post on this blog (along with other idiots like something stinks). On the the other hand, I was banned from Free Republic for posting a very mildly liberal comment. It's so freaking weird how you right-wing nutcases accuse the left of doing the things that you are actually doing. Oh yes, you're soooo oppressed! Let's have a pity party for you poor widdle fascists.

We conservatives love Sarah

because she is sensible, smart, and real (unlike the obamatron). You libs love to bash Sarah because you're AFRAID of her.

A favor for past considerations

The plausability of the house kick back does not necessarily depend on the perceived likelihood that Palin would be elected governor. The company had already cashed in on her. They were the builders of the white elephant recreational facility in Wasilla, a Palin pet project that cost the taxpayers a cool - even in Alaska - $13 million. The house was her payback.

This story was out there last fall, but the crack American media never pursued it, allowing themselves to be intimidated by those Yukon grifters who said they were being unfairly picked on by the national press.

LeftWing Nuts See Something Sinister in her Resignation...

Not at all.

I think you'll find most progressives agree with her decision to abandon her post and turn tail, even if she isn't capable of communicating her reasons with disjointed gibberish.

We surely hope that her leadership will inspire more Republicans to follow her fine example. Conservative resignations from congress in a show of support for her cowardice would be an excellent gesture and would show the country once and for all what the Republican party is really made of: whiny losers.

@edugal

Actually, we liberals like Obama because he's real. And intelligent. And we aren't afraid of Sarah Palin. We think she's stupid. (But also entertaining. Just when you think you've seen it all.......) Kind of fascinating, like a train wreck.

Phylmom

Actually, we liberals like Obama because he's real.

No need to be sarcastic.

If liberals like Obama it's because they prefer their neocons to at least be competent.

Next week's press conference

"...and I promise the people of Alaska that I will never ever fly to Rio to see Pablo again..."

Saturday, July 4, 2009 07:29 PM

@ edugal

So if you believe her, and think her reasons for resigning are good ones, aren't you also admitting she's unfit for any kind of high office? I mean, its not like the press gets any easier the higher up you go. Who would vote for her, knowing she's liable to quit when the going gets tough?

Saturday, July 4, 2009 07:54 PM

Stupid is as stupid does

This woman is so stupid that this move makes sense, for her. If she couldn't be vice-president, or be treated as untouchable by the press, then by gosh she shouldn't have to stick around. Remember Nixon said you wouldn't have him to "kick around anymore." So too is Palin.

Regarding Palin's diagnosis

I would guess that most politicians are narcissists.

That said, the thing that struck me as strange was watching her resignation speech. She sounded like a speedfreak at the end of a week-long jag. There were a bunch of stump speech words strung together that didn't make any sense. At one point she was talking about the Constitution and a new way of leading and I thought she was announcing a coup. The only thing missing was her scratching herself and hallucinating that bugs were crawling over her. But I guess her fear of liberals out to get her was sufficient.

To run for governor and then say you can do better for the people by not being governor at the very least is an admission that you shouldn't have run for governor. Or did something change between then and now?

I think the wacky deadenders will love her no matter, but without the big money she's not going anywhere. And the difference between screwing around with someone in the Alaska State Troopers or the Health Dept. and the current scandal is that it's the feds who've been investigating this one. It's a simple case of embezzling, and even most Republicans don't like their politicians ripping off taxpayers' money so brazenly.

Stick a fork in her. She's so over already.

@ Bob On The Pacific Coast

About the narcissism thing. Since people are talking about it not in the glib sense as its usually used but as an actual diagnosis of mental illness, its important to remember that her reasons for leaving need not be rational. Could just be that the national stage was not validating her delusions of her own self-importance, so she's merely retreating to place she can more easily enforce her delusions without contradiction.

Still, I hope its a big scandal (come on bdsm home sex tape about to be released on the internet!!!!)
