What was Sarah Palin thinking?

No one knows why the governor's resigning, or what she'll do next -- but her base likes the move

By the way, Old Joe...

...you can't make Sarah Palin look good by casting aaspersions on Obama. That assumes she's in Obama's league intellectually.

Last Laugh

As I stated earlier. You're AFRAID of her. Very afraid. Thanks for illustrating my point.

I know we're all suffering from compassion fatigue these days, but this is vital to the nation.

Pay it forward.

@ Edugal

No, Sweetie, this is what fear looks like -- conservatives howling about how Obama was groomed by secret diabolical forces to destroy life and liberty as we know it in the United States of America.

I was watching the news last night and the reporter declared "she stands to make millions,,,"

This prompted someone at the dinner table to say "Greed." That seemed ironic given the McCain campaign denounced "Wall Street bankers' greed" for the market meltdown last year. In that case, they never clarified when the healthy profit motive, which drives capitalism, morphs into greed.

The average American has come to see speculative investment, such as real estate, as the road to riches. Sarah Palin seems to have joined them, speculating on her value as a public figure. Someone may have told her she would be worth less if she waited until the end of her term. So she jumped ship, noting "only dead fish go with the flow."

That's not going to go over well with many. Commitment, responsiblity to finish what you start, etc., are still valued qualities. Those interviewed in Wasilla who supported her wanted her to serve out her term.

As I watched Wasilla's Fourth of July parade on TV, I recalled Rudy Guiliani chiding Obama at the Republican National Convention last year about Wasilla, "not flashy enough for you, Barack?" In fact, it seems it's most famous resident has come to feel that way. Good luck to her.

Curious

How odd that you would suspect Palin of "thinking." That's almost as funny as a remark I heard on Fox News (of course) that she was "articulate."

@ Kristinp

Listen Kristi,

Before you slap a link into your post you should read it first. The Senate record starts with the sentence quoted below.

"Barack Obama sponsored 137 bills from 4 Jan 2005 until 16 November 2008. Two became law."

That gives him a succes ratio of 1.45% of his bills submitted -a shinning performance if you ask me!

Included in the list of sponsored bill are:

  • The Rosa Parks Stamp Bill
  • Congratulations to the Chicago White Sox
  • Commemoration of Juneteenth Independence Day

With respect to the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 - I wonder who did the heavy lifting on this bill - McCain, Carper, Coburn, or Obama - the freshman Senator.

And yes, you are right, McCain, Palin, Kerry, Lieberman - they all kept their posts and wrongly so in my opinion. I believe if a politician wants to run, they should have to resign their current post so the people do not lose representation.

Edwards was the only one who did it right - except he then had too much time on his hands and as they say, "Idle hands are the devil's workshop."

And one other point about Gov Palin - if what she said is true about incurring $500,000 in legal bills to fight 15 spurious ethics accusations is correct - then the ethics police should have to cover her costs if the accusations are unfounded - a law should be written to this effect.
