What was Sarah Palin thinking?

No one knows why the governor's resigning, or what she'll do next -- but her base likes the move

Out in the real world

I ask the reasonable Republicans, not the Sarah supporters, not the wing nuts, can you honestly support this woman for President? If she is your party's pick would you vote for her?

How can any reasonable, thinking person possibly say Sarah has any sense? I beg you, not as a Democrat, but as a citizen of this country, please do not nominate this woman for President. As a Democrat, I would say she would ensure Obama's reelection, but as a citizen, I say please do not. This woman is no where stable enough to be anywhere near the Oval Office and by some fluke she might win. Our country could easily be doomed.

As an observer, I think this woman is a whack job. I know it is easy to say about someone. For example, I really can't stand John Boehner but I don't think he is mental. I really disagree with Kay Bailey Hutchinson but I don't think she is bat shit crazy. I think Mitt Romney is a walking ego but not insane. I think Sarah Palin is all of these things.

Anyone else think maybe Palin quit at this point because she now has as much time as Governor as Obama did as Senator?

Palin's market value is untested.

Her public personae is linked to politics, giving liberals kniption (sp?) fits. She's no longer in a position to do that. My sense is her public appearance career could end up on the rodeo and state fair curcuit pretty fast and that's not where the money is.

PALIN BAILIN'?

Hey look, she needs to get some use outa all them clothes she ripped off the RNC for! Alaska just ain't the place for designer duds! Hell, it's all Wally World and J.C. Penny country...marked down! Unfortunately, she misapprehentenenced all them signs sayin' she's a stone fox and oughta run fer something. I guess she done figured, "Why not". What she don't realize is we seen that comedy play out years ago and while she might figger she's got the "big box" goods, Ellie May Clampett's WAY better lookin' even today. Smarter, too!

Something dogging her

It may be big or small, but something is dogging Sarah Palin.

Whatever her plans may be for her political future — and nearly any of the suggestions made by Alex Koppelman or by letter writers here are at least plausible — she would be infinitely better positioned to achieve her goals as someone with real, dispensable political clout than as someone with no favors to dispense and no way to scratch any backs.

Abrupt resignations right before a massive holiday downtime always mean one thing — someone is in trouble, and trying to pretend that she isn't.

The asylum candidate

From the moment I first heard her speak, i though the woman was crazy like a bat and virtually the most stupid person I ever listened to. Often , I had to pinch myself to ensure I wasn't hallucinating and that this bizarre woman actually existed. The Third reich taught us that deranged, ignorant and stupid people can take over a country under extraordinary circumstances and nearly conquer the world if the population is conformist, lazy, ignorant and gullible enough to allow it. Her base is truly insane, but fortunately for the country and the entire world, it's not large enough to catapult her to power and her corruption and lack of ethics hopefully ended her Alaska crazy episode as well.

@ Kristinp

If conservatives copyrighted that "playbook" then eight years of liberal whinning about stolen elections and Bush is a copyright infringement.

And no, it doesn't bother me about her walking away from the governorship & you are assuming her reason is that she is thin-skinned.

BO was able to get elected without ever having a top executive position in any organization - why shouldn't she try it after having local and state executive experience - especially if she were to take a Senate seat for Alaska and gain a little more experience?

Also, if you don't like mavericks, then you don't like BO - he has done more maverick-ing since he's been in office than most of his predecessors -

  • fired CEOs
  • advised the public not to go to Las Vegas for conventions
  • funded a stimulus that is not stimulating
  • hired lobbyists contrary to his campaign rhetoric
  • can't seem to get that legislation posted on the net for 5 days even though he set the bar on that issue
  • closed some dealerships to add to the unemployment - Barney Frank is still looking for who in the White House chose the dealerships
  • and now he will probably have to tax small businesses making under $250K to fund his health care program

He has surrounded himself with a quality team of advisors (once he found the ones who paid their taxes) and they are led by the main guy - the telepromter - which is the real barracuda!

I don't see how this woman isn't savvy enough to realize she should 'milk it!'

One term under her belt puts her on an equal footing with Mittens. Quitting, particularly under these circumstances, is something she can never excise from her political pedigree. If a family member were gravely ill, that would be a different matter. But this is bizarre; perhaps what Todd Purdum claims to have heard is right. Sarah Palin is a narcissist on a grand scale.

@ Old Joe

Love that alternate reality you inhabit.

I'm also impressed with your bullet points. Very professionally done!

confirms that both McCain and Palin were unfit for office

McCain for his colossal poor judgment in choosing this self-pitying petty tyrant wannabe and Palin for being a perpetual whining quitter.

Palin No Problem!

Let's see! She has the same or better qualifications as Obama. Obama left the Senate without completing his term. Bush was also a Governor. Many past Presidents have been ex-Governors. She has her degree. She is very likeable. Gives great speeches. Very engaging. And she is female. Whoops! That's what everyone is afraid about -- Plus she has great morals...anti-abortion,etc. Whoops! Another scary thing. You liberals sure are afriad of a lot of stuff.

Also, remember, when she came on the scene, she and McCain kept gaining momentum and finally took the lead in polls. Unfortunately, the ecomomy tanked at that point and they lost their momentum. She has a strong base of Evangelicals, certain females and many Conservative independents. Most of you liberals are just afraid of her and refuse to give her any credit at all. Typical liberal response. Spin it bad, bad, bad! Attack, attack, attack!
