2. When you run for a high public office, you accept that you will be responsible for everything the position you're seeking entails. Sure, you can go on vacation, but you can't simply run away and disappear from the responsibilities that YOU seek to take on, whenever you please. Whether an "urgent matter" came up or not during this disappearance has no bearing. It's the abdication of responsibility to either a) be reachable, or b) pass off YOUR authority and responsibilities to the lt. gov. WHILE you're "disappeared" that is the issue.

3. Sanford put HIMSELF on a "holier-than-thou pedestal". His entire career and positions on many, many things - like MANY sanctimonious, so called "conservatives" - was based on his supposed religion based "moral superiority". No body cares if the atheist plumber fixing your pipes is cheating on his wife. When you run for office and then use that office to beat up on "morally inferior" people, well then schadenfreude is certainly the least you can expect from those whom you've excoriated for the very same behavior.

The governor asserted that the registration form says "Alaska Independent," but it doesn't. There is no way to construe the party name as a label for "independent Alaskans," whatever that means.

They fail. We ALL fail. And anyone who says "I don't", is a liar. NOBODY is perfect. And politicians are especially prone to failure. The fact that they strive their entire lives for power and influence makes them much more susceptible to failure.

I am a proud liberal. But the schadenfreude liberals are feeling over Sanford, Craig, Limbaugh and Gingrich is NOT WHAT WE NEED! We need to let go of these petty bickerings and start dealing with real problems. Health care, the economy, etc.

Larry Craig faced the opposition of basically every Republican Senator (and a lot of Republican congressmen), and gave his own series of cringe-inducing interviews after being caught in that airport men's room. I note, however, that Craig is still in place.

The state's Republican leadership should have been pressuring Sanford to step down last week when it emerged that he irresponsibly left his state, and the country, secretly to continue an ongoing tryst in Argentina. Of course now that he's outed himself as a serial philanderer, and robbed himself of any sympathetic cloak, those Republicans that were crying along with Sanford are now calling for his head. Good for them, but they are still a week late.
