"Coleman also said he'd spoken with challenger Al Franken, a Democrat, and congratulated him on his win."

I'd pay good money to have heard that conversation!

"need for the healing process is so important"

Finally, we can start healing.

What a fucktard asshat. Finally, Coleman is going away. Hooray.

(no relation!)

I'm happy

I hated that doofus Coleman since the day he refused to sign the Gay Pride proclamation back when he was the mayor of St. Paul. We're well rid of him here in MN. I hope Franken does a good job as senator!

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:21 PM

What?

What? He conceded? How insane; he could have taken this to the Supreme Court, the World Court, the Galactic court, and of course the highest court in the land:

THE PEOPLE'S COURT!

Where Judge Wapner could have kicked him in the shins.

Ah well, there goes my summer entertainment....

Congratulations, Senator Franken!

It's as if pressure had suddenly been lifted from a nerve. Hopefully, this will bring some pressure to bear on the Blue Dog Democrats to hang with the majority of their party.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:26 PM

strictly for curiosity's sake

How much did this ultimately cost each campaign? And more importantly, how much did this cost the state of Minnesota?

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:29 PM

At last...

...at LONG last, Al Franken will be seated as the duly elected junior Senator from Minnesota. Wonder what Al's favorite big fat idiot, Rush Limbaugh, will say tomorrow?

Even better, I wonder what he said TODAY after hearing this news first-hand?

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:31 PM

about time

Wonder what Al's favorite big fat idiot, Rush Limbaugh, will say tomorrow?</>

I'm guessing it will involve the phrases "grab your ankles" and "anal poisoning." but ya know what? who gives a damn.

now, let's get him seated and let's start passing some legislation.

A bit too vicarious

congratulate : to express vicarious pleasure to (a person) on the occasion of success or good fortune [word.com]

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:36 PM

Now we have our 60 seat majority!

We are now fillibuster proof! Huzzah!

I'm certain, under the brave leadership of Harry Reid, use our majority to enact real change!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I am off to see if my avian-porcine crossbreeds are done...

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:37 PM

Our Long State Nightmare Is Over

None too soon. Congratulations Senator Franken.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:39 PM

Good

Congratulations, Senator Franken. You are bright caring and articulate....please do a better job than your predacesor. Speak truth to power....

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:40 PM

Congratulations

What a joy! I'm sure somewhere Paul Wellstone is smiling taday.

RichEmory

Wonder what Al's favorite big fat idiot, Rush Limbaugh, will say tomorrow?

That this is what he's been saying would happen, and that it's good for Republicans.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:40 PM

@lightfoot

... the Galactic court ...

That's what stopped him. He didn't have enough money to bribe the Vogons.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:50 PM

Yippie!!!!!

Meet me at the Union Station Johnny Rockets, Senator Franken!

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:58 PM

"Coleman ... congratulated him on his win."

What a classy guy!

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 01:58 PM

@ RichEmery

Wonder what Al's favorite big fat idiot, Rush Limbaugh, will say tomorrow?

It's Bill O'Reilly that really has the hate on for Al. Hopefully BillO's head will, once and for all, EXPLODE! Will he ever refer to Al as "Senator Franken"? I doubt it.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 02:02 PM

You never know

Never thought I would use the word "gracious" in regard to Norm Coleman but that was actually a nice statement of concession and a decent gesture, when he could have dragged the whole thing into Federal court even if he had no hope of victory. Congratulations Senator Franken.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 02:02 PM

It's about time

The childish stubbornness of the republicans has gotten out of hand. At last adults in charge..

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 02:07 PM

It's about time -- and to hell with Coleman and the Party of No

I hope karma and politics pay back Norm Coleman and the Party of No even more for holding up the process.

Patriots my ass...they're old fashion obstructionists.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 02:14 PM

Apologies ring hollow

...after the guy has caused 6 months out of 6 years to be wasted. It's been clear for a long time that the ONLY Minnesotans he was interested in were himself and "those who worked so hard" for him.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 02:20 PM

"Prayed So Hard"

So it's official. God has left the Republican Party.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 02:25 PM

Congratulations, Senator Franken

The only politician I have ever felt personally comfortable with. Please, Al, stay off of small planes. They murdered Wellstone and they'll be gunning for you.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 02:34 PM

@trend2121

One should never forget, what Rush THINKS and what Rush SAYS are almost certainly vastly different. If he said he expected and wanted Franken to be seated for some perverse reason, it's certainly possible -- maybe even likely -- he did it for pure entertainment value.

Because, above all, Rush is a big fat entertainer, in addition to being an idiot.

But even so, I can't imagine in his deepest, darkest heart of hearts that Rush is happy to think of a Sen. Franken for the next 5 and a half years...the air had to turn blue after hearing of Al's final victory.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 02:34 PM

Let's be absolutely clear...

Coleman's fight had nothing to do with the people of Minnesota or democracy. That's a smokescreen. It had to do with Coleman wanting to win. The Republican Party is so craven for power, that if fucking Barbara Bush would give them another senate seat, they would. They would do ANYTHING to gain power. That should be abundantly clear.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 03:31 PM

We should all head over to Coulter's website and gloat

At the CTF forum, before Al Franken ever ran for Senator, Coulter and Franken had a debate, in which she randomly kept saying, "Senator Norm Coleman, Senator Norm Coleman," as though it was some form of beat poetry.

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHx0oLrGjKY&feature=channel

Sure, you'll get banned immediately but who cares? Use your spam email address to sign up tho.

$12 Million Later...

The local media bought Norm's concession speech, hook, line and sinker. What a gracious man! WTF! The day after the election, when he was ahead by 250, he said that if he were behind, he would save the state a lot of time and money concede. 8 months later and the guys a hero for doing something he said he would do a long time ago.

Wednesday, July 1, 2009 06:48 AM

Hey, coleshit, ake that slut with you.

You know, the cunt named bachman.

Wednesday, July 1, 2009 07:49 AM

@spiderleggreen

Absolutely!

He's kept Franken out of the Senate for 6 months, so he's accomplished his mission. Easy to be gracious now.

I was watching the local media here in Minneapolis yesterday. They showed Franken's press conference in full, but after that, it was all about Norm and his so-called graciousness.

Can't stand the man.
