Good Grief!

If New Yorkers elect that lying sack then they deserve what they get!

I suppose

anything can happen, but I make the odds against him at about 20-1. I'd love to see what Nate Silver thinks.

Monday, June 29, 2009 11:57 AM

more importantly: Mayor Giuliani?

Could Giuliani run for mayor again? Now that Bloomberg forced the city to lift term limits, doesn't that mean we can have Rudy Redux?

I'd love to see him take on Bloomberg--what a spectacle of egos!

Just another

Republican philanderer.

Not the man for this job

New Yorkers must never forget that Giuliani was the genius who, AFTER the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, chose to put the new office of emergency management in the World Trade Center. I remember having a dinner party when it was first annouced that this was to be the location of the emergency management office. Everyone was aghast that he would do such a dumb thing (and some suggested nobody should know the location of the emergency mangement center.) This was a disasterous mistake. Not the sharpest tool.

That old canard that downstate is liberal is so 1980's

You clearly have never been to Long Island, Westchester, Dutchess, or Staten Island.

I thought Patterson took care of this?

He put Gilibrand in Hillary's seat to tempt Giuliani to make a run at Senate.

Gilibrand was weak on down state issues, and would likely be trounced by Giuliani on Up State issues. It was a perfect machiavelian move by Patterson to get rid of his real competition.

Simply put, if Giuliani runs for Senate, then Cumo might be pushed to run a primary against Gilibrand instead of Patterson, since that's the more pressing concern for the party. Which leaves Patterson in the cat bird seat with no strong republican (especially after the Senate Debacle) or Strong Democrat to really challane him.

Now if Giuliani has figured this out, he'll skip the Senate knowing he likely could lose to Cumo (though getting a lot of angry Hillary champions who see a woman pushed out by a man for a job that was rightly hers might get G some respect)he'll make the play for Gov, since it puts Patterson and Cumo in a fight, which would exhaust themselves (and likely lead to charges of racism against Cumo for unseating NY's first black governor)leave the path pretty clear for Guiliani, who likely won't be challenged by other Republicans who need the W to shore up their own political futures.

Basicly, it's a question of where Giuliani thinks he's got the best shot, against a Cumo who kicked one of the few women in the senate out of her seat, or a Cumo who kicked the only African American to hold the Governorship out of office.

Cumo is in a lose lose situation, so if he just throws up his hands and wait's till next year, Giuliani's likely got a free pass to one of these two spots.

Which comes first senate elections or the governor's race?

Has the body politic of New York state just suffered some intense closed head trauma???

Because, otherwise, why in the world would anyone want that colossal monument to the Legend in his Own Mind to have new office space in Albany??

And meanwhile, Honduras goes unnoticed

When oh when will the MSM look at the disaster in the making that's going on in Honduras?

Democrats MUST dump Paterson, and get Cuomo in there

My God ... Rudy Freaking Giuliani, Nosferatu himself, still undead even after his laughable, pathetic 'Presidential campaign.' America's Douchebag.

Monday, June 29, 2009 01:59 PM

For his own sake, I hope he learned his lesson

about campaigning only in Florida.

Don't quite get it...

I'm not sure why Koppelman claims Rudy would easily be victorious against Patterson.

Yes, Patterson appears to be a WEAK governor, but given the foibles of the rest of the state government, I don't think it's appropriate to call him a BAD governor. And Rudy, for all his "media popularity," is certainly not a beloved man in New York State. Just because a guy gets his pic on every newspaper front page and appears on every talking heads show does NOT mean "the people" like him. It just means the media think he'll help sell ads--and ads are sold to people whose interests are not generally aligned with "the common man."

In any case, I kinda doubt Patterson wants to run again after all the headaches he's had to deal with, so even if Giuliani does want to run for gov, he'd do well to wait and see who he'd be up against. In fact, that may be why he won't make a statement about it right now.

Rudy's problem

New Yorkers remember him as a punk, and upstaters remember him as a punk... from New York City.

See why he can't win?

Oh and re: Clockwork, Gilibrand has actually left a lot of people surprised. She actually seems a very strong politician, and at least for now the national party is taking steps to keep her in office. (Granted national parties hate primary challengers unless the man or woman in power stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars, had an affair, or is simply too damn crazy.) The governorship is the clear prize for both parties. Though on the other hand, the state house is imploding so really anything can happen.

Also, no way Rudy "Divorced my second wife during a press conference" Guiliani going to take the woman vote.

Loathsome

Even by the standards of American politics, Giuliani is a truly loathsome individual.

Time and space preclude me from listing his many offenses (and I truly mean 'offenses') so I'll just use one of his worst as an example: He tried to gain personal advantage from 9/11.

Unfinished business

Having cleared New York City of the ferret menace, Rudy Giuliani's legacy now rests on his ability to do the same for the rest of the state. From there, who knows? Can you just imagine an America free of ferrets from sea to shining sea?

Rudy and Mark

Rudy could run with marksanford!!! Both lied to their families, cheated on wives, and in my opinion, shortchanged those of us who elected them to public office. Oh, and aren't both very religious?
