Isn't that political? Is reporting on Michael Jackson's death, which impacts virtually all of us negligibly really more important than covering where reps stand on this bill?
Even as the comments on those other articles on this site indicate, we are a lot less concerned about MJ than you, the press, seem to be.
Do you think "touch" was the appropriate word for the congressman to use. As in: he "touched" the world, and he "touched" all of God's children. Maybe he should have thought that one through.
THREE MINUTES SILENCE!
Hey, are you thinking what I am thinking?
How many minutes are there in a congressional session and how many celebrities can we afford to lose?
I'm glad to see that Congress took a moment to honor Jackson. It's obvious that his music affected tens of millions of people across the world. It's hard to imagine now that it existed in the 1980s, but Jackson broke the outrageous racial barrier at MTV. Whatever you think of the man, or his music, or the cult of celebrity, you can't deny that he had a huge impact on the world.
"Madam Speaker, if there is a God, and I believe there is, and that god distributes grace and mercy and talent to all of his children, on Aug. 28, 1958, he visited Gary, Ind., and touched a young man"
The climate bill is getting rammed through the House today, one of the biggest political stories of the year. Just letting you know.
I was hoping the POLITICAL blog might be a bit of refuge from the wall to wall Michael Jackson converage. And yes, a particulalry poor choice of words!
Because THAT would be awfully embarrassing for them when it turns out he was diddling kids or something like that.

Actually, we have covered the climate bill: http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2009/06/25/energy_vote/index.html.
We're planning to post after the vote as well.
Since we are all Africans, descended from the Mitochondrial Eve somewhere around Kenya, I have about as much black blood in the interstices among my Kansas share-crop freckles as Michael did in his whole bleached face.
Has there ever been a child born black who so repudiated his African heritage, let alone his nose?
And would any of our millionaire media or millionaire national politicians (I'll bet Jesse, Jr. is one) had paid a bit of attention if this wounded child had not generated millions and millions of dollars into the American economy?
When Michael Jackson visited Capitol Hill in 2004, the Congressional Black Caucus refused to meet with him. Granted, he was facing trial for child molestation at the time, but who hasn't?
Any truth to the rumor that Jean Schmidt sat down in the middle of this and stated she would not stand for a pedophile?

and a few smirks from the Republican side of the floor.
and he loved all the little children. All those priests and MJ were only emulating the holy one(s).
