The Mississippi governor and former Republican National Committee chair will step into Mark Sanford's shoes

Either Or

Either the RGA is really well organized and has a system in place to instantly adjust for abrupt resignations/firings, or the RGA already knew he'd be stepping down and got all of the infighting out of the way already while claiming not to know anything.

I suspect the latter.

Ya Know - It just pisses me off Spitzer

Was gone in a nanosecond...and he didn't turn his cellphone off

when he was banging his ladyfriend.

Mississippi Governor...

Perfect...

This new "Southern Strategy" has them with their backs to the Gulf of Mexico...

Don't let that stop you... Just start swimming...!

Perhaps you'll get to Argentina...!

The South Has Risen, Again

Haley Barbour?

Isn't he well known to be about as corrupt as a 3 dollar bill? Perfect leadership for a corrupt political party!

Don't these things come in 3's? We've had Ensign and Sanford. Who's next?

I think right now would be the perfect time to shove a public option healthcare bill right up the rethugs asses.

Hey Wingnut

Hey Salon can we have another shot of wingnut and his rightist talking points about how it only "appears" that the Republicans are lying hypocrits when discussing the sacredness of marriage vows...

Lucky damn thing they don't let Gays marry - next damn thing they'll ALSO be off cheating on their spouse and we can't have that

/irony off

Haley Barbour?!?!?

That Foghorn Leghorn slicky-boy is taking over? oh, lawdy...

I say, I say, 2012, son, that ship has sailed. Get it boy? ship...sailed...look at me when I'm a talkin' to you, boy...

good point ChangetheChange

Spitzer faced impeachment by his own party about five seconds after his scandal broke. I recall the state attorney general of Ohio resigned for sexual harassment charges when he too faced impeachment by his fellow Democrats. But these Republicans --- no biggie. Just say Jesus forgave you. Will Sanford face impeachment? Doubt it. Vitter did what Spitzer did, and got protected.

At This Point

(well, for a good deal longer than that), I read this party, these walking-talking-poseur hypocrites, as a larger Marx Bros. family.

Consider:

While this news is deeply disappointing, I also know it’s important to remain focused on the future and Governor Sanford’s resignation allows him and us to do just that.

What kind of response can such a meaningless statement merit? And what's really funny (just not the ha-ha sort) is that RedState, Michelle Malkin, and all other insane, hypocritical, racist (that would be you, Pat Buchanan, and your buddy David Duke) and moronic people out there will continue to trumpet their fine, upstanding Christian morality (and, depending on the context, they'll allow as how it might be Judeo-Christian [but never will the word Islamic enter the "argument," such as it is]) that shows itself more as wishful thinking than reflective of actual human behavior.

Frankly, I have no objection to any religion or philosophy that functions as some sort of yardstick or guide for people. If they feel they need that, well, that's up to them. The problem, of course, is this bullying imposition of that religion or philosophy on everyone else, regardless of whether they share that belief.

Part of me wants to (and does!) laugh; the larger part doesn't. The larger part wishes we didn't have to go through this time and time and time again.

And again (guaranteed).

Desperado

I love it when liberals have to resort to attacking the fact that their opponent's speech somehow doesn't transcribe into perfect English. As anyone familiar with legal transcripts realizes, the only time speech transcribes into perfect English is when the speaker reads from a teleprompter, and when the transcriber knows what she is doing. Yours obviously doesn't. Your transcripts are poorly done, and commas are missing. Let’s try the same thing with Barney Frank.

Morons at Salon bragging about their non-existent English skills.

Here's how you do it.

While this news is deeply disappointing, I also know it’s important to remain focused on the future. And Governor Sanford’s resignation allows him and us to do just that.

There, I'm not even a typist. You should fire yours.

Good job dude you got a Barney Frank shout out up for us to marvel at but ummm aside from that would you like to comment on a Clinton attacking, Homophobic, uber christian that was playing hide the weenie with someone not his wife in far off Argentina when he was supposed to be doing South Carolina, Gods and the RNC bidding here in the US of A

Because the Right is pretty much looking like the party of lying hypocrit cheaters but hey one good thing about his mistress She's a Girl...

...well I assume she's a she

I mean he wouldn't do the gay thing would he?

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 02:34 PM

@soberinput

My, how sour the grapes are today!

The peanut gallery never stays on point

The article about which we are commenting is narrow in scope. It was an attack on the English skills of the Republican party-- somehow. The peanut gallery can't ever stay on point, nevertheless, when it comes to these transciption attacks, Salon should give it up. They always blow up in their faces.

Hey, SoberInput

Morons at Salon bragging about their non-existent English skills.

Are you sure you've chosen the proper screen-name?

I'm thinking more along the lines of, say, PussyWillow (something appropriate in a Judeo-Christian/But-Non-Islamic context).

Yes, that's good, I think.

And it even works in English (which is a Judeo-Christian language, as we all know; at least according to The Venerable Kinda-Jew Bede).

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 03:29 PM

Maybe Barbour was given it to keep his delusional ass out of 2012...

... just saying... Clearly a man with national ambition, who appeals to the national electorate about as much as taking a sauna with the corpse of Jesse Helms.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 09:36 PM

Sober

I think you clicked on the wrong topic. The article about republicans and their language is further down. This one is about Haley Barbour taking over the RGA leadership from Sanford.
