Yeah, they should really emulate California instead.

..Because we have had SO MUCH success with direct initiatives. Just look at that $40bn budget deficit and drool over all the taxpayer dollars saved! What? You say we have the highest income (gross) AND sales tax in the nation too? Oh noes!

The poor guy

You've gotta feel kinda sorry for this poor sap, Brian Brown. Here he thought all of America was on the same page, and hated fags just as much as he does. Turns out, we don't.

All he wants is to stand up in the public square and say "I REALLY HAAAAAATE FAGS!!!" and have everyone applaud. But, unfortunately for him, he was born at the wrong time.

So, as is, he has to prattle on about "what if your kid were taught that they could marry someone of the same sex?" Well, considering two of my kid's friends have 2 moms and no dads, and our son is not traumatized by this and has yet to join Al Qaeda, I'm not too worried. Yep, certainly lacks punch.

C'mon, Brian, once more in the public square. How much do you hate those fags?

Are you sure?

True, a majority of Americans still oppose allowing same-sex couples to wed,

I am not sure that a majority of Americans oppose gay marriage. In the states that passed propositions opposing it, it was the majority of voters that was the relevant statistic, not Americans as a whole. And, these ballot measures brought out the religious right voters en masse, while liberals were less galvanized to go to the polls, skewing the voting pool to conservatives. Can you cite an accurate poll to back up your statement?

For the love of Pete...

Uh - for one, Brian Brown, gay marriage IS just as good as straight marriage. And two, the only REAL reason these people have for wanting to ban gays from having legal protection is that they want to be able to legally discriminate. Plain and simple. It's no wonder they're losing the battle - discrimination is legally and morally WRONG.

This is how it's going to happen.

Gay marriage is going to be accepted in the US in a fashion similar to the way it was accapted in Canada: with province after province legalizing it, and the general populations in those provinces, and neighbouring provinces, and eventually the whole country, seeing that the ACTUAL RESULT was the creation of more stable, committed families, raising children in provincially-recognized unions, being embraced as full, welcomed, participating families on the PTA and in the church pews and at the local fundraiser.

Oh, and the shot of $$$ into the various local economies of the new wedding industry didn't hurt either.

We've had legal gay marriage in Canada for - what? Five, six years now?

There's no downside. That's what they're really afraid of.

Brian Brown and his friends doth protest too much

No stable human being is harmed in any way by gay people living near them, loving each other, getting married or anything else that they can dream up.

Their argument has no validity. Every point they make is crap.

This all seems like homosexual panic to me. Prove me wrong.

@kickstarts

No stable human being is harmed in any way by gay people living near them, loving each other, getting married or anything else that they can dream up.

The key word here being "stable."

However, if you're seriously struggling to maintain a worldview that pretends that we're still living in the 50s, having gay people move near you would be a complete disaster.

I've never understood the "unelected judges" angle.

I mean, I thought the whole point of judges being appointed rather than elected is so they can make their decision based on legal precendent instead of having to pander for the next election like the executive and legislative branches.

Disappointed.

Isn't Brown going to try recycling the most laughable argument? 'If all of America was gay, then no one would have children'? That one is always funny.

Next from NOM

Brian Brown releases a statement: " It will not be long before New Hampshire children are taught in the schools that all people are equal under the law. This will not do."

Why did we give the government the say in who gets married?

OK, so let's think about this: Who you will spend a good part of your life with; THE most personal decision is regulated (and taxed--think marriage "license" and divorce fees). Who gave the government this ability or more importantly, why do we stand for it?

It is time for Mr. Obama to stop discrimination against the majority of Americans (single people) by a vocal minority (married people) who seek benefits that the majority must pay for.

In the meantime, get married in a church of your choice (for gays there are many churches that perform same sex marriages), but don't get a married license. Don't give the state more power on this personal decision.

Thursday, June 4, 2009 06:23 PM

That's because they never had an argument

Being gay is as good and right and normal as being straight.

Gay marriage is just....marriage.

Thursday, June 4, 2009 06:39 PM

Would someone PLEASE explain the concept of representative democracy to these people!

I stayed up late last night trying to get these people to understand the basic lawmaking process our country uses on the USA TODAY w3bsite to no avail. They seem to think becuase an issue is in the news, we should do an end run around the regular law making process.

Thursday, June 4, 2009 06:50 PM

There is no argument

..against Gay marriage. Never was.

God is dead. Get over it, idiots.

Thursday, June 4, 2009 07:45 PM

there is a real issue but it is tough to base an argument on it; straight men don't want kids unless they are with women who they like and who REALLY like them

and women can have kids without men, (legally now and soon physically). Most men are not that attractive to women, so, who needs men? A bigger factor though is probably that a large percentage of evangelical men are gay themsleves, some of them know it and some don't, so when they talk about culture "making everyone gay" they are being sincere.

legalizing marriage

If we now have heterosexual marriage and gay marriage becomes the law, why can't anyone who wants to get married have that right? Apparently gays feel that if they love someone they should have the same rights of inheritance, hospital visits, insurance coverage, etc, etc as do heterosexuals. But there are a lot of people who love someone, and are committed to them without a sexual relationship, and they should have the same rights listed above, otherwise we are giving rights to the sexual act and not to individual people.
