Good Strategy, Hard to Back Up.

Given Obama's embrace of Bush's policies towards secrecy, using 'national security' as an excuse for anything, and no willingness to prosecute criminals who tortured, and of course, congress' acceptance of all that, the 'bush sucks' strategy will become less and less viable rather quickly.

Bush SHOULD be Sestak's downfall, too

"Sestak worked in, 'I got elected to oppose President Bush's policies.'" Right -- except for warrantless wiretaps and retroactive immunity for telecoms (same cowardice as shown by Obama). We need better Democrats or a third party.

RE: why yes, George W Bush WILL be Specter's downfall.

Joe Sestak is completely right. We need a real Democrat, a trusted moderate leader like himself in the US Senate! I for one, will never ever forget that during the hated eight years of disaster under George Bush, we would frequently hear the sound of reason from Specter, the media would trumpet how Specter would moderate obscenely unreasonable and unsound Bush policies, and then of course, Sen Specter would vote to support each and every major disaster that his master, George Bush wanted. Sen Specter is an unreliable, Bush supporting DINO, and the good people of Pennsylvania deserve better. Joe Sestak is a good leader in the House and a respected former Admiral in the US Navy. Pennsylvania democrats deserve a real choice for change, Joe Sestak for US Senate.

Yes! you beat me to it and said it more succinctly. That's exactly what Specter did. Time and time again I watched Arlen on CSPAN2 effectively articulate the flaws of a GOP bill during debate, only to vote for passage.

See Joe Run. Run, Joe, Run.

Again and again, Specter complained about Bush policies, at times even questioning their constitutionality. And every time, he caved and voted with the Bushies.

Then, he did not become a Democrat because of any change of heart or mind; he did not have a conviction that Democrats had better plans for the future. He changed to save his job. He said so.

And his campaign for reelection will hinge on glossing over those clear facts and hoping Pennsylvanians aren't paying attention or don't care. If Sestak pounds away on those points, voters will be faced with a choice between someone who believes in what he is doing versus a guy who will do anything to get votes.

It might work, but...

If voting with Bush administration policies when one agrees with them or finds it advantageous to appear that way is the issue, a lot of other Democrats, including their leaders, should be scrutinizing themselves just as much. Their party's acquiescence to morally dubious Bush-era legislation started a long time before Specter became a Democrat out of opportunity.

I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

"...Sestak made sure to bring up Bush -- and Specter's having supported the former president's policies -- even at times when he didn't really relate directly to the question at hand."

My God, what are we coming to when a politician would do such a thing? No candidate has ever done that before!
