But seriously, folks...

President Obama and Wanda Sykes get laughs -- and conservative outrage -- at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

The letters thread is now closed.

Goldberg, ptooey

Who gives a FUCK what Jonah Goldberg says about anything? I mean it. The man is a pathetic lightweight, with all the intellectual firepower of a hamster. Pace all hamsters.

Not to mention that he's profoundly dishonest, when he's not profoundly stupid. Run him over with a bus tomorrow and no-one would mourn, except his mom, I suppose. Everyone should have at least one mourner.

Awww

Poor Jonah Goldberg. It's okay to call liberals fascists based on the (supposed) fact that they encourage us to eat zucchini, but Limbaugh, a traitor, just because he wants the country to fail? Oh, that's off limits.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:02 PM

But seriously folks..

Rush Limbaugh?

He's ALL yours...

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:05 PM

Conservatives kowtow to Limbaugh

... even when someone else offends him.

Pathetic.

Newsmax said the "radio king" was the "main target" at the dinner.

Liberal lies

The Liberal Propaganda machine has a short memory. James Carville on the morning of 9/11/2001 had to beg to have an interview not published when he stated he was working for Bush to fail. Rush never ever said he wanted the United States to fail only that he feared Obamas policies and he we wished they'd fail because he felt they are bad for Americans. Yes he said those words about he wished Obama fails but the spin on what he meant is a flat out liberal lie. Obama had a good routine Saturday. Wanda Sykes was way over the top and the media reaction will no doubt be a hit on you-tube.

The Democrats ,looking for an issue to side track Bush, felt the could take him down with the torture rants. Now they find Pelosi and high ranking Dems Jay Rockerfeller etc were briefed and knew and said nothing. If we go back to Clinton we will find that Asst Atty Gen Holder was involved in Clinton torture. Clinton didn't have the CIA do it he gave prisoners to allies to have them torture for us to get information. The problem with pointing fingers to get ahead is if you look closer when you do there are usually three fingers pointing back at you. Middle Americans will only be fooled for so long and then Karma kicks in and the Justice of the Universe gives the decietful and the profiteers of lies a good comeuppance. What goes around comes around.

liberty...

The Democratically Controlled Senate passed an anti torture bill, Bush vetoed it.

Projection is futile with intelligent people.

Wanda Sykes

Is the wise sassy fat black woman stereotype for the gay audience. Everyone knows that.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:27 PM

"Wanda Sykes is unfunny"

brought to you by the same people who think Stephen Colbert is a secret conservative.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:31 PM

Who are these "Middle Americans?"

As you do so pronounce

Do they have so much in the way of brains

That weighs less than perchance an ounce?

Kowtow.

That's it. Feel better now?

Bill Sammon, the source of the Carville story is a Fox News/Washington Times Bush asskissing book writer, not a reliable source.

@libertyaintfree

Rush never ever said he wanted the United States to fail only that he feared Obamas policies and he we wished they'd fail because he felt they are bad for Americans.

Sure, but you have to admit that this is exactly the way the right-wing cheerleader squad would have played it if someone had said something similar during Bush's term. I'd bet Rush himself would have been leading the mob with his tantrums. Heck, they were pretty much saying that anything less that 100% support for Bush and his policies was tantamount to treason.

What really burns the right wing is that they know countless people won't check the facts and will believe that Limbaugh actually said it. They know this because they counted on the same result when they told their own lies.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:34 PM

Umm, but Sykes wasn't funny.

I didn't watch the Sykes clip but I've read a couple of articles that summarized what were, presumably, her high points. And they weren't funny. When Democrats start laughing at things just because they fit our biases and not because the performance was either clever or funny, its time to wake up and try harder.

On the upside, Obama was hysterical--as always.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:37 PM

Look at Jonah Goldberg

Jealous? Thinks he merits a put-down by Wanda! Sorry, Jonah, she had to cut you out. Too obscure.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:39 PM

@WonderLaw

Whatever funniness level of Wanda Sykes achieved, I don't buy the "I would have laughed, if it had been funny" line from the Right. They said the same thing about Colbert in 2006 (2005?) when he spoke (and was incredibly funny). But that was before they realized Colbert is really one of them, I guess.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:41 PM

Awwww...

The poor widdle conservatives are offended. Someone help them please! How dare anyone?

Really, wingnuts, don't you think it's time you learned to take it as well as dish it out? Grow a pair, maybe? (I know, I know, it's difficult when no one's buying your way out of things for you...)

What a bunch of hypersensitive wimps. Crybabies. Cowards. Punks. Losers. Weaklings. (I have more...)

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:49 PM

@Alan Lloyd

Really, wingnuts, don't you think it's time you learned to take it as well as dish it out?

I don't think they can do that. AFAICT, being able to dish it out without having to take it is the primary objective of all conservative philosophy.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:53 PM

Well I dunno..

..the part about Lamepaw missing his flight hit a few funny chords, then a few uncomfortable chatterings were heard, and by that point I was bored.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 03:54 PM

WonderLaw

Humor is subjective, not objective. Just because you didn't laugh at her jokes doesn't mean that they weren't funny, just that you didn't find them funny.

That you assume a political motivation for saying they're funny is hillarious.

Conservative outrage

I'm sure Limbaugh will run his mouth off this week and all the Repugnants will froth at the mouth as usual. They turn wrong side out over anything and everything anyway. What difference does it make!

Sunday, May 10, 2009 04:38 PM

What difference does it make?

It makes about as much difference as the farting of a flea.

That's about how much difference this whole affair really makes and means to me.

Sunday, May 10, 2009 05:00 PM

world of difference

Colbert was truly funny and more, subversively using the platform to strike at the pathology of American empire and at the incestuous collaboration of political parties and their media sycophants that the event represents.

From accounts, participants at last night’s event celebrated that pathology, with New Leader joining fellow media celebrities and image-makers to bask in the glow of mutual validation, praising and yukking it up with the very press so instrumental in inciting this nation to commit war crimes and waste a million lives in Iraq, beaming broadly while their hopeful and united class continues the killings necessary to protect their interests against suspected enemies worldwide.

Funny stuff.
