Bachmann warns of "re-education camps"

The Minnesota congresswoman, who's been gaining fame for taking increasingly paranoid stances recently, does it again.

The letters thread is now closed.

OMG

She did it again. I can't believe the crap that comes out of this woman's mouth!

I'm from Minnesota, but thankfully not from Religious Crazy Person's district.

Monday, April 6, 2009 10:34 AM

Recall?

Can't she be censured or something? Even Jesse Helms was widely criticized for saying then-President Clinton might be killed if he visited military bases.

People like Bachmann want a violent response that they can deny being responsible for.

What if she calls for an armed insurrection? Are there any consequences for an elected representative calling for violence?

Good reason for paranoia

True conservatives like Bachmann aren't yet in reeducation camps, but Minnesota has already put them in a designated area. There aren't any actual fences and conservatives are allowed to come and go, but the area is clearly marked on a map. We call it "the 6th district".

Seriously Minnesota, and embarrassed Americans of all states, her opponent received a huge influx of cash last year, but it came just days before election day and he didn't have time to put it to use. Next year, help her opponent when there's still time.

Unbelievable...

Dear Ms. Bachmann (I'm sure not saying "Mrs." will be construed as a liberal insult) must herself be re-educated, starting with that "K" grade. MN 6th District, please stop the madness!

mandatory service

Mandatory service where young people are put into camps and indoctrinated into the government's way of thinking.

Has she ever heard of the draft?

Monday, April 6, 2009 10:39 AM

"There is a very strong chance that we will see that young people will be put into mandatory service..."

I hear you, Michelle! I got my call to mandatory service back in the Nixon administration. They told me to report to Union Station at 6 a.m. with a kit bag.

Oh, that's not the kind of mandatory service you were thinking...er, talking about? Never mind. I guess that's also why you're not against stop-lossing the current generation of young people.

Time to Put Up or Shut Up

I think it's time for Democrats to confront conservative wingnuts like Bachmann who allege to be Christians and patriots yet continue spout just the opposite. Maybe soon to be Senator Franken will do that - ask Bachmann what programs she has started to better her community -- if she's "pro-life" has she adopted any unwanted children? And if she doesn't want young people to volunteer through our government then what does she propose instead? Given all the problems with teens texting, sexting and everything else young people are faced with you'd think even alleged Christian conservatives would stop the crazy political talk and attempt to solve problems instead of creating more. It's clear in a time of crisis who really cares about our country and our citizens and who doesn't. As far as I'm concerned people like Bachmann are as bad as the domestic terrorists they wring their hands over.

Ever wonder if her family tree might be wreath shaped.

Once again, from the majority of us here in Minnesota: FORGIVE US. Most of us had nothing to do with this woman being elected.

Monday, April 6, 2009 10:48 AM

bachmann

isn't she the one who should go to some re-education camp? how does she get re-elected, i always thought Minnesotans were smart and fair minded. she makes them look pretty bad.

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:04 AM

Where will it stop?

No one on the right is telling her to shut up. The more they speak, the more villainous the right gets. We're already almost at comic-book villainy here. How much worse can it get?

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:04 AM

What if she and Joe the Plumber reproduced?

People say she's crazy, but just look at her...she's not crazy, she's stupid. The woman is an imbecile. She spouts this nonsence with that rictus grin and blank stare, and you can tell she's utterly clueless.

She's confused being a member of congress with being part of the entertainment community: news division.

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:05 AM

Isn't she the same one who wanted an investigation into who in congress is "Un-American"?

Yeah, Michelle, let's have that little talk about government indoctrination.

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:07 AM

Um...

Why is no one pushing back against this, in Washington? Why are none of her colleagues disabusing her of these ramblings? Why aren't democratic party members reaching out to Bachmann, offering to discuss what it is she fears, so we can air out her ignorance and correct it?

In short:

WHY AREN'T THESE IDEAS BEING REJECTED IN OUR MARKETPLACE OF IDEAS???

I realize that we are yapping about her apparent disconnect from our shared reality, and salonites tend to "get it" about her... but why don't we hear about democratic push-back against this kind of idiocy??

Ooops: The Framers Missed Again

It is sadly amazing that the framers of the Constitution took such care to prescribe certain minimal standards for most offices and yet so missed the obvious. To sit in the House, as Rep. Bachmann does, you at least need to be 25 years old, be a citizen of the United States for at least seven years prior to election and be a resident of the state he or she is chosen to represent. Sadly the framers, never anticipating Rep. Bachmann and others never thought to suggest that one had to have a functioning mind capable of simple logic and circumspection. And when, one must wonder in Rep. Bachmann's case, did Delusion become the 51st State.

Psych Ward Crazy

Honestly, before ANY elected representatives are allowed to campaign they should be made to have a psychological evaluation to determine if they have a sociopathic tendencies, a lie detector test and be able to pass AT LEAST better than an 8th grade education test. This woman would fail all three!

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:12 AM

I just want

for her to go to an "Education" camp.

Never mind the "re-" part.

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:13 AM

Don't blame the framers

Women weren't allowed to hold office back then.

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:14 AM

I'd love to see the yoot of America . . .

. . . put into mandatory service. I think a two year stint in the military, the Peace Corp, Americorp or a new version of the CCC is a great idea. National service helps build national cohesiveness and will give provincial yoot a chance to see other parts of the country or the world before their minds calcify.

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:16 AM

Sic Semper Tyrannis!

Okay Michelle, where do I sign up for the armed insurrection against the Evil Zog Communonofascist NWO librul gun stealin' bible outlawin' gubmint?

When do we attack Fort Sumter?

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:16 AM

Ah!

Returned for re-grooving. Firesign Theater will be so pleased.

On the other hand, Republicans have been so blatant in their fear mongering, it's amazing to me that anyone listens.

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:16 AM

They're crazy unless they are on your side.

*cough* Dennis Kucinich *cough* kettle black *cough*

Monday, April 6, 2009 11:19 AM

And I'll bet she's a supporter of DARE

I think Republicans are projecting their shadow side onto Democrats.

America is the most incarcerated country in the world largely because Republicans like to use prisons as re-education camps for people who use illegal drugs.

The Republican Party sold its soul to the War on Drugs. No Republican has a right to make any comparisons with Communist China when Republicans are the main reason why America Land of the Free holds 25% of the prisoners on the planet.
