Limbaugh's leaving New York, and everyone's happy

The radio host says a new state income tax hike is the last straw, and that he's moving his alternate studio -- Jon Stewart's glad to see him go.

The letters thread is now closed.

60K...

...will buy a considerable amount of Oxy, cigars, and entertainment services in the developing world.

But seriously, WTF does Limbaugh know about work?

Thursday, April 2, 2009 04:09 PM

Holy Crap!

Hope he stays away from my hometown.

Thursday, April 2, 2009 04:15 PM

I'm not a huge Jon Stewart fan, but

te line "We knew he was into drugs so we cleaned up Times Square" almost caused me to spit out my coffee. That's funny.

pity party

No. That article's not worth reading, it's a whiny, narcissistic example of "well he's nice to me..." The author is certainly a Limbaugh, she has the family victim mentality.

i have no sympathy

When one considers how much the wealthy pay in taxes as a PERCENTAGE of their income compared to the percentage that the middle class and working poor pay - the rich pay a much smaller amount.

Interesting...

Can we now get a similar federal tax to get him to move out of the US?

@jmiller22

Can we now get a similar federal tax to get him to move out of the US?

Think bigger. Maybe a return to 1950's tax rates will make him move to another galaxy.

I vote South Carolina

He's simpatico with the governor, --and they can use whatever money he drops on slurpees and cigars.

New York will lose

Love him or hate him....New York will be the loser.

That is because the more states tax and tax the more productive workers/wealth creators move. So it's not Limbaugh's loss, really, it's New York's because at that income, they will be losing a HUGE amount of money...but truthfully, if they are acting like most municipalities...spending too much and not being careful with our money, this is what happens. They lose.

It's happened in CA, too. While we get more and more of an influx of folks who traditionally use social services and pay little if any tax, those who are paying the taxes, the income earners are leaving. About 1.4 million of them leaving the state more impoverished.

This is what states/governments get when they are addicted to taxes instead of willing to cut and be frugal like the rest of us.

Classic

This is what is known, on The World Wide Interwebs, as a "flounce."

You know, when that person on the message board (the one everyone hates because they're an obnoxious attention whore) announces that they're LEAVING! Because YOU PEOPLE SUCK! And they're NEVER COMING BACK!

Unfortunately, they nearly always return (because they miss the attention, natch). Sorry, New Yorkers. Enjoy his absence while it lasts.

"That is because the more states tax and tax the more productive workers/wealth creators move."

Yeah, they'll ALL go Gault and move to Utah.

And you've got an odd definition of "productive workers/wealth creators."

Soliel

That is the basic problem with the conservative ideology - or at least what it has morphed into. Conservatives really mean it when they say they want to cut taxes but they have abandoned the cut spending - in practice ages ago.

Can we just stop pretending conservatives really want to cut services? Or can you point out what superfluous services should be cut? Becacause you've rid us of your favorite enemies like welfare, the law and order types on your own side also don't want to see police and fire cut and at the federal level there are the entitlements which everyone complains about paying into but everyone wants their piece of in the end.

So what is it that we can drastically cut?

I think the answer is really- grow up and pay your fair share and quit fucking whining already.

In these econmically difficult times

It seems as if China must be just about due for a new "Cultural Revolution." I'm sure Rubaugh could set just the right tone, even through a translator. He could jawbone those wayward, disappointed, depressed Chinese workers back into shape in no time! I wonder how you say, "PULL YOURSELF UP BY YOUR OWN BOOTSTRAPS!" in Chinese.

If ya just can't hack it..

..might as well just push off, hit the road, jerk your dick, pick it up, and pack it...what a big fat waste of space watery eyed wimp.

Re: Julie Limbaugh

Wait, that was for real? I thought for sure it was an April Fool's joke.

Rich people didn't work at all during the Eisenhower years

With a top marginal rate of over 90%, the Eisenhower administration taxed the rich at a much higher rate than any president since. And as we all know, the 1950s are remembered as an era of low productivity and no wealth creation. By the end of the decade, all the rich people had left the US to avoid paying such a burdensome tax.

Oh, wait.

Re: Rush leaving New York

Number of fact-checkers unemployed as a direct result: zero.

The Next MC Commercial

The cost of the economic meltdown caused by the GOP and deregulation: trillions.

Rush's tax in New York: 600,000

The feeling of relief in New York City as a vast dark weight lifts from the city: Priceless

Rush Limbaugh is a traitor

He should be tried and punished for his treason.

And his niece should STFU and GTFO.

As if

Red states aren't exactly paragons of productivity and self sufficiency. Maybe if NYC, California and other bastions of liberal "waste" and "laziness" didn't have to redistribute vast quantities of wealth to places like South Carolina and Oklahoma, they wouldn't be having to raise taxes to shore up budgets. The hypocrisy of the right is mind boggling.

Here's a deal for all you self-absorbed "every tax is a bad tax" conservatives. We'll wall off an entire state and you can all go Gault, congregate there, set every tax rate at 0%, abolish all forms of government and rely on Christian charities to provide all public services. Let's see how long it takes before your "utopia" turns into a real life Lord of the Flies hellhole. I give it about 72 hours before you come begging for help from that gummint you seem to despise so much.

Friday, April 3, 2009 04:52 AM

Selling his condo?

Just how much is he going to lose on that deal?

And who would be buying his luxury condo if this tax increase is just so dreadful?

Friday, April 3, 2009 06:13 AM

Well

"And who would be buying his luxury condo if this tax increase is just so dreadful?"

Actually, for some reason I can't fathom, the CONDO market is doing well in NYC, but the co-op market has dropped about 20%.

Friday, April 3, 2009 07:18 AM

How does that saying go?

When the going gets tough, the tough haul ass?

Friday, April 3, 2009 07:32 AM

Perhaps he'll move to a welfare state...

...where he'll get more federal bang for his buck and can continue to bash the government's tax-and-spend with impunity.

Like...oh, let's see...Mississippi. Gets $2.02 for every taxpayer dollar spent.

Or Alaska. $1.84.

It's small consolation that my big blue state, from whence our President and socialist-in-chief hails, is subsidizing these red-blooded, anti-tax, stand-on-your-own-two-feet Amurrikans to the tune of 25% of our own federal revenue and probably won't get a second look from Limbaugh.
