When the head of AIG was getting grilled, these idiots were constantly in the background waving signs and engaging in general buffoonery. These glory hags give a bad name to true protesters.
It's simple; they're breaking the law, so arrest them. They can protest all they want outside, but when they start interfering with real government business, they cross the line.
Let them wear their pink boas in a DC jail cell.
... so Barney, what is going to come out of these 'rational' hearings? Still waiting ...
We certainly have our share, and these silly morons are at the top of the list. Disruption for disruption's sake, to quote John Lennon, ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow. It isn't 1968 anymore, and these Code Pink dumbasses are not the Yippies. Not by a long shot.
"Disruption for disruption's sake..", I believe that is exactly their point.
I'm not excusing it, I'm just saying, you know, disrupting power in action is their goal.
I can see that they feel powerless in ending what they see as a great evil, that being people dying in Iraq. Their arsenal is limited, so they use what they have.
As far as I'm concerned, if they so choose to, protest & disrupt, get ejected and/or get arrested. All is part of the game.
Bush admin instituted official "protest" zones. Now, that is wrong.
I'll agree that the Code Pink people are painfully predicatble - can't they at least wear a mix of colors for once? And their predictability means that once people see that "It's the Code Pink people again," they stop listening, and categorize whatever happens into "We've seen this before."
But as an earlier War Room correspondent said, what else works - writing our congressmen?
there are not many ways to protest.
If this is too silly for Barney maybe something a little more confrontational is in order?
Congressman Frank is entirely correct. The flamboyant protesters just become 'useful idiots' for the Repubs to propagandize against. Read 'Nixonland' for a memoir on how they became so good at it.
So I guess questioning white collar, white skinned, slimy chumps who feed you a lot of campaign donations, errrr, I mean answers to your bullshit questions (you, by the way knew the answers to anyway) qualifies as rational. Only in DC...
Granted, Code Pink can be a tad irritating, but i enjoy their antics much more than the back & forth kabuki theatrics portrayed by these politicians.
Note to Barney Frank: If you continually act like an imbecile who pretends he is acting in the interest of the "people", than you can thank your lucky stars that all people are doing is "disturbing" your little play time. grow up, Barney.
I hate to interrupt this reactionary pep rally, but Frank (like John Conyers) has long since abandoned progressive principles and a positive relationship with progressive voters.
When Frank was criticized in Florida for pushing his pet LGB(T) legislation that excluded protection for transgendered persons, and instead let them twist slowly in the wind, Frank also had a hissy fit and squawked that the protestors were clueless and didn't understand how the real world operated.
It was afterwards said that he was surprised and disturbed because his usually friendly constituency subjected him to open rancor and criticism.
He's just another para-corporate Inside Man for the banksters. The only things the "grownups" intend to accomplish are conducting Serious and Solemn Dog and Pony Shows to preserve the illusion of political integrity and responsibility, while ultimately making sweetheart deals with their buddies at the taxpayers' expense.
So I'm not inclined to draw myself up to my full height and with high dudgeon denounce Code Pink for daring to put on a show of their own. The only thing they disrupted was having their pockets picked by Amerika's native criminal class: Congress.
While I echo Frank's comments and understand his anger, I wish there was someone in politics with the independence, gravitas and chutzpah to issue the same condemnation of Frank and his committee. When serious people who work hard to do their jobs in the public and private spheres need to sit and listen to questions/speeches from the blowhards on congressional committees I wish someone would tell the committee members to "grow up."
As someone who marched for civil rights in the 60's and demonstrated during the Viet Nam war, I have one thing to say to these ridiculous attention desparate Code Pinkers. You would be doing us all a favor if you returned to your respective homes and got a real life, perhaps even volunteering at a local soup kitchen, shelter etc. As the entire global economy hangs in the balance, I think we must at least give Secy. Geithner etal an opportunity to improve the situation. Standing around in a Congressional Hearing with silly signs does one thing only and that is, it makes you all look like adolescent fools. And in case you haven't noticed, there are more than enough of this group in Congress already whose grandstanding and phony outrage has done nothing to help the situation.
If the media liked the Left-Wing as much as the Right then Code Pink would regularly be asked it's opinions about the news of the day, it's members would be frequent guest speakers on news shows, and their views would constantly be circulating throughout airwaves, in print, and on the internet.
Instead we get The Eagle Forum and Phyllis Schlafly, The Heritage Foundation, Anne Coulter, Ben Stein, et al.
Frank's emphasis on bringing a level of maturity and seriousness to the protest was spot on. Instead of shutting them down for the sake of shutting them up (desirable as that would be for purely aesthetic reasons) he challenged them to bring constructive, mature criticism to the debate. And coming from Barney Frank, nobody can say this is just The Man trying to keep them down. Of course it's easier and more fun to substitute a crazy pink hat for thoughtful critique, so doubtless Code Pink is not very happy about this.
