They just can't take a loss for anything. They think that voters owe them something. That is what they got. nothing. Coleman is out the door just like a whole lot of them and more in 2010 if they don't change their atitude in washington. Let hannity sit on it. If franken was behind and holding up coleman from being seated the asshole would have called bush back to washington to try and screw franken. Get over it republicans, you are a minority party from now on.
pretty much says that the Senate can tell the Supremes, and any lower court, to go pound sand.
The Senate can't tell the Supreme Court to go pound sand. That was settled in 1948, and it's why the Senate had to recently sit someone they rather not sit.
The ruling is that the Senate determines the qualifications if there is an issue concerning such qualifications, but they have to be Constitutional qualifications.
In other words, age, time in country, whether the election itself mets constitutional requirements. Not the actual outcome of the election.
While the House has determined the outcome of two very close races in recent years, they weren't overturing a court ruling.
Coleman is tainted and has been for some time. Imagine a party that is so desperate to preserve their ability to disrupt voting in the senate that they welcome damaged goods to their caucus. That's the corrupt GOP for you.
This is going to fuck Republicans in MN for a long time. People talk about MN becoming a battleground state, and certainly Republicans have made great strides in a formerly unabashedly liberal state. This will keep the state in the Dem column.
Grow up. Franken won. Coleman lost.
Norm Coleman, and Republicans in general, would be best suited to stop where they are. Any goodwill with the majority of Minnesota voters is long gone. If they drag this to the US Supreme Court, the damage will take a decade or more to repair.
On a positive note, Amy Klobuchar can be quite proud of her job performance!
The Supremes argued the equal protection argument and the continuity of office. I.e. exigency won. In this case, "stop arguing now and begin ruling" would lead to Franken in the seat. The only way they can be banking on SCOTUS is if, in fact, they are sure that the justices will put party above principle. If they are certain that "their" justices will ignore their own distaste for the case, the structure of the lower courts, and the ramifications of their last foray into partisanship in order to give back to a party that no longer gives them anything directly, then they can go ahead.
In essence, each GOP senator who urges Coleman on is saying that he explicitly believes that the justices are party hacks.
I know some of us believe that, but it's nice to see that they do, too.
Let's assume the MNcourt sides with Franken.
Will the MN Sec of State and/or Governor sign off on the certificate to seat Franken? (Even if it's a "temporary" certification while the lawsuit drags on)? Or will they continue to let Coleman tilt at his windmill while MN goes without proper representation?
And if the MN execs don't sign off, could the US Senate just seat Franken already?
"We defeated the Taliban in Afghanistan"
"This is the beginning of World War III"
"There is nothing wrong with the economy"
"Bush inherited the Clinton recession" (the recession that started 3 months AFTER Bush was in office)
"This is Obama's Recession (that started OFFICIALLY in August, but if you look at the chart, the market declined steadily since April of 08)
Hannity is a liar. People who believe him are fools. It's just that simple.
That's the risk of shrieking like the deranged asshole hannity is - in politics, it's not very rare that BOTH sides do the same sort of thing. Then either Hannity has to reverse course, or pretend like it never happened.
There are absolutely zero consequences for Hannity to do this. He can say the sky is blue today and the sky is black tomorrow, and not one of his viewers will utter the slightest objection. He says "Zeig," they say "Heil." It doesn't need to be coherent.
Actually, the shoe WAS on the other foot, and Hannity screamed bloody murder about how Franken was attempting to LEGSLATE a victory instead of following the will of the people.

from both Coleman and the GOP. If I lived in Minnesota I'd be livid that issues of unprecedented importance are before the senate and my state isn't fully represented in debates because of a pissing contest.
I know that the GOP lost sight of the concept of doing what is morally correct many many moons ago (and, too, the dems. in weak moments), but their lack of simple citizenship still galls me anew from time to time.
The Constitution in Article I Sect 5:
Each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members, and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business; but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner, and under such penalties as each House may provide.
pretty much says that the Senate can tell the Supremes, and any lower court, to go pound sand. I think that the US SC will recognize a ruling from them will be pretty much irrelevant and pass on hearing the case rather than risk looking impotent. The Minn SC ruling will be the prevailing one.
That said, I hope McConnell spends big bucks to find it out.
I mean SCOTUS was unambiguous about NOT signing their names to Bush v. Gore and they specifically stated it was NOT EVER to be used as precedent for any future case. How come no one pointed this out to Cornyn? Surely there must have been at least one "reporter" there who knew this information.
