I suppose I should say the obvious

The plans were just announced for the election and there was never going to be a marriage.

Stupid is what

stupid does. Man, and they were that close to being VP-ized. It boggles the mind...

following up wysiwyg's comment

the phony self-righteousness of the Christian Right has been exposed (again). They all seem to bend over backward to prove they are more "christian" than their neighbors.

They should all chill out and admit that we, they, everyone is (in their words) a "sinner." the world would be so much better off if we all weren't so full of shit.

what would jesus do? Well, from what i know of the fellow, he wouldn't lie.

Too Easy and Unkind to Boot

"Levi tries to visit [the couple's son] Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible. She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash'!"

So where is she keeping the baby, since it's obvious she can't keep it at home?

I know, I know. Too easy, too cheap, at a target that doesn't deserve it. But still, somebody had to say it, right?

Isn't this the kind of thing that Ann Coulter has railed against recently--single momhood? When can we expect to see her anti-Palin column coming out?

smell some opportunity here...

let's see.. young pretty woman abandoned by boyfriend, political connections, money... I hope some enterprising young man is hitch-hiking toward Alaska with flowers in one hand and a book of love sonnets in the other.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 08:24 AM

so this is news?

can hardly wait to see Jackie and Dunlaps take on this. is this Salon or Saloon?

Thursday, March 12, 2009 08:30 AM

Hick-Hock Indeed

There... someone finally had to say it for the whole bunch of 'em.

It was starting to sound like a Hillbilly sitcom

anyway.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 08:41 AM

Really??

Ok, why is this news? I can see The Star or possibly The Washington Times wanting to cover this, but Salon? This is kinda low and has absolutely no business in a political blog. Her mom was news-worthy a couple months ago but not anymore...

For shame Salon...

I'd Bet A Pair Of Silk Boxer Shorts From Nordstrom's...

... that this is a statement from Sarah, not Bristol, Palin:

"Unfortunately, my family has seen many people say and do many things to 'cash in' on the Palin name," Bristol Palin said in her statement. "Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth."

If anyone knows all about saying and doing many things to "cash in," it's Sarah Palin.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 08:52 AM

"She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash'!""

Pot, kettle is calling you.

Like anyone believed those two would actually get married?! I'm sure this whole thing has been ggreat for him. He's probably banging white trash chicks all over Alaska.

Sarah Palin is devastated because this isn't a huge story. No doubt she expected alot more attention than she's gotten over it.

My guess is either he'll knock someone else up pretty quick or she'll get knocked up again...probably both.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 08:53 AM

This is news

But a round table discussion? Really?

Thursday, March 12, 2009 08:55 AM

Dammit

This is what happens when you don't bring the shotgun to the shotgun wedding.

You'd think hillbillies like Sarah and Todd would know that.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 08:57 AM

"White trash"

Which family are they talking about?

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:02 AM

Golly

I sure hope we continue to waste column inches and broadcast air endlessly rehashing this relationship. It's so significant and vital to the nation.

I turned off one of the morning chatterbox shows today because they spent five minutes on this dreck and were moving on to talk about the defense for some woman who killed her kids. What a waste of time.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:02 AM

It Was A Sham

The fact that these two broke up "a while ago" is the proof. The engagement was strickly to help Sarah Palin.

As an aside, does anyone think Sarah Palin will be judged more harshly by the Right because her daughter is an unwed mother? Somehow I doubt it and yet they will point fingers at averyone else.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:04 AM

Did I walk through the wrong portal?

Because I thought for a moment I had stumbled into People online or some other site where this might pass as "news".

The only thing more unsavory than finding this story here in "War Room" is reading some of the tasteless and snarky comments about some teenagers who broke up. No matter whose teens they are.

Grow up.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:24 AM

Q. Why is this news?

A1. Because these two were (I'd bet a freezer full of moose steaks, unwillingly) shoved in our collective faces by their hideous stagemom/potential mother-in-law, and her shrieking followers, as the ideal teen shotgun-marriage lovers.

A2. Because it illustrates the eternal, highly personal, messiness of sexual "politics."

Excuse me, but isn't that obvious?

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:27 AM

@saintzak

Sarah Palin is devastated because this isn't a huge story. No doubt she expected alot more attention than she's gotten over it.

Perhaps she should become a Salon reader. She will be reassured that her 15 minutes of fame are far from up.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:27 AM

Disgusting

John McCain wanted the woman in this trashy family for his Vice? This is some fine example for our young people(I don't think so)and the do gooder rightwinger's want Sarah to run for pres. in 2012?, show's how low they are.Disgusting.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:30 AM

I bet Levi will join the Army soon

And join Bristol's brother in Eye-Rack or Afghanipak.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:33 AM

Bristol deserves sympathy

I figured this story would get mostly snarky comments, as it has so far.

But Bristol Palin is a victim here. Teenaged girls/women are often attracted to the bad boy, but she got pregnant, and she's going to be raising that child herself, in a, well, complicated family.

She herself knows she regrets having a baby this young. She said so in the poignant TV interview.

I think she's much better off not marrying Levi, but she'd be much, much better off if she'd had birth control info rather than abstinence education.

"Knocked up" is hardly ever really a humorous situation, nor one deserving scorn.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:35 AM

That whole traveling circus is the definition

of white trash.

We used to look to the nation's best and brightest, with Palin its the nation's worst and dullest.

Thank God we have one of our best as president now. Makes me think we might just make it.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 09:45 AM

Hey all you "So THIS is news!?" complainers

Yes, many of us already knew that the right-wing 'fambly valyahs' morons were a bunch of hypocrites that would accept Palin making her kids/grandkids/soon to (maybe) be son-in-law, etc into the model of respectability, but some people didn't know better. As more and more evidence comes out, their hypocrisy is exposed, and it NEEDS to be exposed. So you can call this a People Magazine issue, but the cynical image makers in the GOP who flew Bristol's ersatz "fiance" down to the GOP convention and paraded him and his tatooed ring finger around are a REAL STORY that needs to be told. From Palin's dragging her newborn to the latenight convention (and everywhere else she went for business) to the original coverup, then admission of pregnancy, to fake wedding plans, she reeks of using her family for political purposes. All while crying, 'lay off my poor family, give them privacy'. Bristol's beau didn't ask for privacy when he publicly described himself as less than family friendly on his Facebook page, let's take him at his words before they were being scripted by GOP flacks. The phony family values industry's acceptance, even celebration of all this is the real news. So, OK I'll grant you that a single broken engagement is not big news, but as yet another example of the GOP/Xtian/extremist Right's empty rhetoric, it's a big story that NEEDS TO BE TOLD, AND TOLD AGAIN!
