The Republicans strike back

Top GOP'ers are trying to deflect some of the Democrats' Rush Limbaugh-inspired attacks on the party.

The letters thread is now closed.

Typical Republican nonsense....

Act like massive pricks and then, when called on it, respond by accusing the accuser of "partisanship" and "negativity."

Here's a thought, Republican Party-- Don't want to be called a dickwad? Then stop acting liking one.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:22 AM

at this point...

...I don't think very many people care what they think.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:26 AM

Who cares what Boner says?

It's not a official Republican message until Limbaugh approves it.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:27 AM

really? katrina??

"In the first two months of 2009, the Democratic Congress and the White House have spent more money than the combined cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the response to Hurricane Katrina."

Perhaps if they should have put more effort into Katrina.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:28 AM

Wait, you're telling me that...

...John Boehner got out of his tanning booth for this?

And as for Cornyn, it's worth reminding everyone of this:

"I don't know if there is a cause-and-effect connection but we have seen some recent episodes of courthouse violence in this country. Certainly nothing new, but we seem to have run through a spate of courthouse violence recently that's been on the news and I wonder whether there may be some connection between the perception in some quarters on some occasions where judges are making political decisions yet are unaccountable to the public, that it builds up and builds up and builds up to the point where some people engage in - engage in violence."

--Sen. John Cornyn

Your Texas Senator, rationalizing violence against the judiciary by people who don't like the judges' decisions.

What's wrong with the WaPo?

How does Boehner figure that Dems have spent more $ than 2 wars and Katrina (odd choice given Repug bungling there)????

All they've passed is a stimulus which only spends $500b (the rest is TAX CUTS).

2 wars is already over $1T and counting....

His math is lying and the Washington Post lets it! Whatever happened to journalism in this country? "The duty of the press is to print the truth and raise hell". The WaPo does neither.

Newsflash, GOP

It wouldn't work if you all didn't feel that you have to publicly grovel at Rush's feet if you say anything critical of him.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:32 AM

Actually, Limbaugh's ratings are slipping

so he's doing his best to attract attention to himself. Limbaugh's humping the Republican Party for his own person profit. How Republican of him.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:33 AM

What alternate solutions?

I didn't realize "do nothing" was an alternate solution. If the GOP is so eager to take the emphasis off of Rushbo, someone is going to need to state that he is an incendiary entertainer and stand behind their statement. I'm tired of listening to Jaba's spineless cronies, it's like a broken record (Rush is Jaba the Hut and the GOP members are his cronies. Get it? It's like a joke.).

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:33 AM

It worked becasue they let it work

What really makes their argument amusing is that the Democratic Party's work to set up the distraction only worked because the GOP played right into it. If they had not gotten into the habit of criticizing and then apologizing to Limbaugh, the entire strategy would have folded. Rather than crowing about left wing conspiracy - they should take a minute to realize that their lack of temerity is why they are in this position.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:35 AM

WHat's the difference?

Really, John? Focusing on Rush Limbaugh won't create more jobs? Either will your idiot idea of more tax cuts for the rich. So we might as well talk about that fat, pill popping, impotent slob instead. It's less frustrating, and more fun!

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:36 AM

It's called multi-tasking

With his left hand, Obama's on his BlackBerry, navigating our way out of this crisis. With his right hand, he's playing Whack-a-Mole with Limbaugh and other Republicans intent at seeing him fail.

Who's next?

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:37 AM

@ Sen. John Cornyn

"by depicting Rush Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party".

Rush has long been the face of the Republican Party. He has just ascended to the be leader of the Republican Party. Are you jealous?

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:37 AM

These guys really need to Shut Up

and go back to the drawing board, and do some party building. Right now, the only people listening to them are their pet hacks and stenographers...

and even they don't believe this shit anymore.

They should take a look at their polling...recognize they are really unpopular...and think about why everyone hates them and laughs at their cluelessness.

But instead they issue these statements which make eyes glaze over...and are only of interest to people who have money on the Dems increasing to a larger super majority in the Senate.

When a party collapses, it is funny who is the last to know.

Want peace and accord, Republicans? Put down the Molotovs first.

I believe that if the Republicans wish to work in a spirit of accord and mutual respect then they should prove their good faith by showing a willingness to cease fire. They will not do that -- hostility is all they have left -- but will continue to bite at Obama's ankles for the remainder of his terms in office.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:42 AM

Rush's ratings are slipping?

Good thing he's squeezed a bunch of money out of Clear Channel. The annual property taxes on his mansion are about $412,000 a year. Which just goes to show how much of an everyday American in touch with the people he really is.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:43 AM

Stop writing about this bull shit

Gawd. This bull shit doesn't matter. Stop giving Rush a platform, stop trivializing politics, start writing about things that matter again. Every one of these posts about Rush makes me just that more disappointed about the state of the news media. This isn't news unless you say it is. So stop acting like some blowhard matters. He doesn't. There's war, death, economies crumbling, icebergs melting and countless tiny things that deserve attention before this.

Please write about things that matter.

Thursday, March 5, 2009 07:44 AM

Cornyn in particular has a lot of nerve!

He promised to bring a new tone to Washington and end petty partisan politics in his ads, too. But all he's done is practice petty partisan politics and play obstructionist. He needs to take a look in the mirror before he accuses anyone else of being partisan.

@llamajama

So stop acting like some blowhard matters. He doesn't. There's war, death, economies crumbling, icebergs melting and countless tiny things that deserve attention before this.

I think he does matter. A lot of the problems you mention were caused, or at least exacerbated, by people who believe in jerks like Limbaugh. It's about time everybody realized that the media circus is nothing but a circus.
