create jobs (or at least the demand for jobs) that spread STDs.
A friend of mine who is the black sheep, in her conservative family excelled in the human sexuality classes at her community college. She persuaded the other members of her family to get tested for STDs. The result was that she's the only member of her family that's clean! It turns out that knowledge does make a difference when it comes to personal health, even when that knowledge touches on areas one "Shouldn't need to know about."
I'm running out of words for the cowardice, ideological enslavement, arrogance, corruption and abject power-madness that the minority party (ooh, it gives me tingles to type that) keeps displaying. So I think I'll just sit with my jaw open and gape for a while.
I've been wondering the past couple of days how many times somebody like, say, Newt Gingrich might have had to go and a maximum dose of antibiotics after one of his many "We'll do it on the desk so we can say we didn't go to bed!" encounters.
Or Randy Cunningham. Or Rush "Pack the Viagara, I'm going on vacation" Limbaugh. Or Helen Chenoweth. Or Bob Barr.
Y'know, there are Ansell plants in North Carolina and in Ohio, and there used to be one right up the road from us in Alabama.
Local wags pointed out that the Ansell plant in Alabama was on US Highway 84 which, when followed east into Georgia, comes to Climax.
I support the research but shouldn't it be in some health bill? I understand in saves money down the line but how does it stimulate the economy?
Make a health bill, put this and the birth control item in it. Why is non-stimulus stuff being put in the stimulus bill?
-Don't screw/make-out with hookers, strippers, and any girl willing to sleep with you the first night you meet her.
-Limit your sexual partners, if you just HAVE to have irresponsible sex, use a condom
-If you have problems with your man/lady parts, go to a doctor.
ANY QUESTIONS?
I don't like coy, I don't like cute, and I don't like false-fastidious.
Maybe this gentlemen isn't tough enough for his job.
How much money could we save if we were able to find a cure conservatism?
You mean STD research can be carried out without everyone having a lot of sex? That's crazy--it would be like doing research on weapons systems without killing a lot of people.
"I don't want to know"
The entire Republican approach to discourse summed up more eloquently than any of left-wing snarkers could attempt.
There is a fairly reasonable argument as to how STD prevention can help the economy: by creating jobs in the Health and Human Services sector, reducing the medical costs associated with STD's, and preventing loss of production hours to illness.
But this guy doesn't want to know.
Where can I find a Democratic pundit banging on this point like Keith Moon on benzedrine? The public should have this kind of nonsense pointed out and ridiculed whenever possible.
More money for research = more research jobs = more people with money to spend = more people buying stuff = more jobs for people to make stuff = economic growth.
I think this may be a little niche to stimulate the economy in any meaningful sense. Not to mention the money compared to the sums being discussed is almost negligible.
...we actually cut health care costs attributed to preventable disease, or reduce the number of babies born to unready parents that will rely welfare to get through life. Sex is gross. Let's go back to pretending people never do it.
. . . we can see from the way this stimulus package is being handled that the Democratic Party has no concept of how to be in power.
The Republicans knew how to shove their legislation through the Congress regardless of Democratic support or (haha)opposition. If they couldn't ram something though, they would tie it on to legislation which them Dems would be likely to support.
The Dems, conversely are taking a stimulus package which should be popular with the people and will be naturally reviled by the Republicans and trying to put classic Democratic agenda issues in it. All the while, they fail to realize that these incidentals are related to the pointless wedge issues which Republicans have used to mobilize their increasingly weird and psychotic base for years.
So even though the stimulus package should greatly benefit your average Joe Bagadonuts on the street, the Republicans are able to pick these stupid little nits and declare that the "Moonbat Dems" of the "Radical Left" are trying to use Your Tax Dollars ((c)Republican Noise Machine,Inc.) to give condoms to queers!!!!
This is how you lose momentum, folks. The Republicans scream enough for the Dems to lose their spines. Suddenly you're trying to convince members of your own party to vote for you bill. Meanwhile, the pathetic DINOs who care only for their own re-election quake in fear of an entirely imaginary Silent Majority that hasn't really existed since Bush I coasted into office for Reagan's 3rd term.
If the Dems let these petty squabbles de-rail the package, then the Obama administration is doomed. I just hope they remember that negotiation is supposed to include concessions from both sides. If the Republicans still block a stripped down package, I say you throw everything back in and shove it straight down their throats.
This is the Event Horizon, Mr. President. Lose this battle and you lose the war.
What happens to these STD research jobs (and the rest of the jobs to be created) after the stimulus money runs out? Are these self-sustaining jobs, that just need some "startup" money to get going?
Or are these federally funded jobs, that are going to need MORE federal funding in a few years?
Viagra funding is okay.
It is in the same bill. Right?
Please explain why no one points this out.
Pay for the wood but not if anything goes wrong.
STD edu funding bad.
Medicare funding of Viagra good?
Clears w/lo a peep from either side....
I don'tt want to know!
