Oh. My.
or, in other words, what an asshole...
I was apalled that Chris Mathews didn't demand an apology. Bob Herbert of the NY Times started his segment saying Armey should appoligize.
Joan was terrific.
I've tried to be polite about it, but he keeps calling me, and he's just not pretty enough!
Remember that in 1993 Dick Armey, who was then the third-ranking Republican in the House, during a Ways & Means Committee hearing on Hillary Clinton's health reform plan, told her, "I have been told about your charm and wit, and let me say reports of your charm are overstated and reports of your wit are understated."
Poor Dick Armey! What else could he do except revert to frustrated chauvanism when faced with an alternative point of view which was reasoned, well-articulated, and so clearly smarter than the bankrupt ideas offered by his own party.
Is all I could decipher from this video.
Armey's tone, demeanor, words, actions, facial expressions, et al were typical of Rush Limp-ball's Republican Party. His dripping condescension towards Joan demonstrated that he had no idea who Joan Walsh was, nor did he care. She was a strong woman - someone who could never be his wife because Republicans can't stand strong, intelligent, women who don't grovel. Unfortunately, Matthews has frequently demonstrated the same attitude, especially towards Hillary Clinton, so the fact that it took Bob Herbert to comment on Armey's Dickspicable behavior was no surprise. Matthews should be ashamed. Armey should be drawn-and-quartered (figuratively, of course)!
I'd say you clearly pantsed him.
Joan couldn't even speak without Dick shaking his head and moving about uncomfortably. How embarrassing! The man is a chauvinist of the old school, where men can have opinions, but women should always "give it a rest."
He did himself, and his cause, no help with this performance.
Way to go, Joan! Keep eating those men for breakfast!
we watched "hardball" in absolute shock today. there are a hell of a lot of republicans that we despise. i really didn't think anyone could unseat rush limbaugh, bill cunningham, or sarah palin. dick armey's parents named him appropriately. his attack on joan walsh was disgraceful. joan was quite a lady in her response. i'd have ripped him a new one. i was very glad that bob herbert commented on how out of line he was. he owes joan an apoplgy, as well as the viewers of hardball. he should not be invited as a guest on any shows in the future.
1. Chris Matthews should have demanded Dick Armey be civil.
2. Why was Dick Armey given sooooooo much more "prattle time" than Joan Walsh? (Track the number of seconds his jaws are flapping).
3. I'm pretty sure there are scenarios where Walsh *could* be his wife (never say "Never!" Dick!), but they mostly involve brainwashing and alien possession.
4. Nothing Armey had to say was of any substance, let alone value. His prattling boiled down to (besides "I think women are stupid, so I'll act like a complete pig to Joan Walsh"): "Rush is a jerk, but I'm too frightened to say so" and "Democrats suck for caring about poor people." He also seems to willfully misunderstand the GWB "redistribution of wealth through the tax code" for the top 5%.
Dick is one. So rude so condescending and so typical of him.
Chris really dropped the ball on this. It's his show and he should have called him out. It wasn't funny and Chris acted like "what just happened" when he talked about it with David Schuster at the hand off.
Joan is always classy, prepared and respectful of people she appears with. Joan you did not deserve this.
It'll be interesting to see what happens at the repeat.
This needs to go viral.
When you are as wholely unappealing as Armey is, you don't mention how glad you are not be able to marry someone.
Before Armey threw out his "wife" comment at Joan, his behavior made me feel as if he was trying to intimidate her and shut down her side of the conversation. (which goes to tell me that he felt threatened by her ability to hold her own)
I thought to myself...what a bully...this guy is trying to put a woman "in her place"......and I glanced to see if he had a wedding ring on his finger when my thoughts went to..."who has to wake up every morning to this creep?" I did see a wedding ring on his finger and a wave of sorrow crept over me for whoever the unlucky woman is. He then threw out that comment to Joan about being "so damn glad you could never be my wife." I couldn't believe what I was hearing! And I thought to myself..."she's lucky she is not your wife".
I just looked up Dick Armey on "Wikipedia". I see no mention of marriage or a wife in his biography. Hmmmmm...maybe that was not a wedding ring on his finger? Or maybe he wears a "pseudo" wedding ring on his finger so that he can live the pretense that he has a companion and does not go home to an empty house every night.
He needs to be put out to pasture to graze with Cheney and other old Washingtonians whose days in the limelight are over.
Is it sour grapes, or something in the water? What's with all these old, white, Republican men in the news today who seem to think intelligent women want to reach into their pants and fondle a set of wrinkly testicles?
Ugh, I saw DICK on a somewhat recent PBS healthcare debate. He was prancing around screaming "SOCIALISM! OMG BAD!!" during the entire discourse. This guy is a first rate asshole.
Anyway, it's kind of awesome Republicans continue to makes themselves irrelevant. Nice work!
These are the people you all want to have a post partisan era with.
Just saying.
What a sexist pig. Does he seriously think that Joan Walsh or any other self respecting woman would sit in the same aisle as him on the train let alone marry him! I can't believe he thinks so much of himself. Well he made himself look like an ass and now added to his wiki page is the stuff he said to Joan Walsh!
