Geraldo chases down Blagojevich -- literally

Frustrated when his interview with the embattled governor of Illinois was canceled, Fox News' Geraldo Rivera confronted Blagojevich in a parking lot.

The letters thread is now closed.

Nice Video

You might think that two egomaniacs would cancel each other out!

Geraldo has a point

I think Blago is being denied due process (in no small part thanks to himself).

Blagojevich

It is obvious that Blagojevich is seriously ill, suffering from what even a lay person who has seen a few TV movies and read a few articles could diagnose as some sort of personality disorder, some sort of narcissistic aberration. He's obviously not capable of seeing reality and has a vastly inflated sense of his own importance and power, both symptoms of several pathologies. I'm amazed that no one is talking about him from this perspective. I'm also amazed and ashamed that any legitimate show would allow him on to further his pathological fantasies in public. Shame on us for using this man as entertainment, all the while pretending that it's just news.

Blago is unfit for office

but the impeachment proceedings are a travesty as well. The Illinois Senate didn't decide on the rules of procedure until it was obvious that they didn't have enough evidence to actually convict him of a crime.

For a long time I've believed that public servants should be held to a higher level of responsibility than the letter of the law, but this is no way to do it.

due process

this is an impeachment hearing, not his criminal trial. due process is not guaranteed.

Monday, January 26, 2009 01:22 PM

impeachment isn't criminal court

He was allowed to call witnesses. He wasn't allowed to supbeona them. If someone didn't want to testify for him they didn't have to.

This isn't criminal court, this is removing him from office.

A lay evangelist. A Jimmy Swaggart/Jim Bakker without ordination.

The interview on Good Morning America was not to be believed. There hasn't been a more obvious case of someone denying carnal desires and base proclivities since the evangelical scandals of the Bakkers or Swaggart. Or as much distancing from reality and outright lying since Oral Roberts and God's threat to "kill him" unless he got donations.

The spirit of Jesus may not be spreading everywhere, but the spirit of His most obnoxious servants sure is.

If you've ever wondered what crazy looks like when it meets equally crazy walking down the street

Here's your answer.

I keep wondering what Blago's end game is. The Legislature is going to get rid of him, which means he's out of a job soon, either way. He's going to ride all this publicity...where, exactly?

Whorendo Revolver is cable TV's Salon.com

I can't for the life of me understand why you would waste 5 minutes on this guy. Oh wait I remember, you're the same thing. Sorry my bad.

Together at last.

Somehow Fox’s Geraldo and Blago together seem so absolutely appropriate.

A meeting of the mindless

It's hardly even interesting anymore, because Blagojevich has memorized all his talking points. Now he's not just ridiculous, he's boring. I feel sorry for illinois.

Okay--the Guy appears to be Crazy, but.....

What precisely is he guilty of? Trading political favors for a job? We call that "patronage" or the "spoils system" and it has applied to every politician since at least Andrew Jackson. If we impeached every governor whose wife got a job or cushy position as a result of the governor's clout, there would be no married governors. While he may have been more blatant than most on the telephone call that was released, I didn't hear any impeachable offenses...just a jerk. Following up with the philosophy I stated above, if we impeached every jerk politician in the country, there would be no politicians at all.

Haven't we learned anything from the Clinton impeachment debacle? Impeachment (even on the state level) is for "high crimes and misdemeanors," not political weakness.

Since when is Fox "News" a "victim" of anything?

Geraldo is a hack! He was a hack in the eighties and he's still one now. That's why he's at Fox, no legitimate news organization will hire him. Blago didn't cancel because he was afraid of tough questions (though he is) he did it because Geraldo isn't a real newsman and his network isn't a real news network. The guys reputation is in the tiolet, why would he sully it further by appearing on a fake "news" channel?

Geraldo, man of substance and serious journalism

Geraldo should be hunted down and whipped in the town square for being a crass, foolish, money mad tool of the etablishment. This story reminds me of what Oscar Wilde said about people who go on fox hunts: 'The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable'. If only there was anyone around today with Oscar's style and gift for language. Oscar went to jail for being Oscar and all this hysteria over Blagojevich has the stench of 'set up' to me. Mr. Blagojevich is being castigated for his personality and character but where's the evidence that would stand up in court? Thin on the ground, I have to say. This little number has the stink of the Republican party (a cross between the smell of money, the lingering aroma of cordite and thermite with just a hint of the smell of old wire tapping equipment)all over it. Geraldo wasn't frustrated, he was moronic - his normal state.

Monday, January 26, 2009 02:39 PM

Throughout the PR and MSM coverage, I keep forgetting...

that Blago is a Democrat. Ugh.

As for Geraldo, he is nothing if not persistent and insistent. Blago is the latest version of delusional O.J. (as in: I really believe both of them really believe they're innocent). Geraldo did mucho coverage on O.J. back in the first trial days, but not in O.J.'s favor. Now he's tipped to the other side (a Faux News tip perhaps?) "helping" to portray a delusional one as innocent.

Blag needs mental health treatment.

Blag is being exploited by these PR people. He and his attorney had access to the tapes so his comment about the tapes is a ridiculous point. Blag sowing symtoms mental health problems. Geraldo launched his career promoting the JFK assassination conspiracy theories and he continues to attempt to deal up conspiracies.

Monday, January 26, 2009 02:50 PM

@PalestraJon

No, he's not accused of trading political favors for a job. He's accused of SELLING a political position FOR CASH MONEYS. Or presumably, goods and services.

In other words, the feds caught him on tape discussing his attempts to solicit bribes from, among others, the Obama team. Thats DEFINITELY a crime.

Monday, January 26, 2009 02:58 PM

Dumb and Dumber

While it is common knowledge that Blago is certifiable, I didn't realize how big a baffoon Geraldo actually is.

Monday, January 26, 2009 03:13 PM

@GLohman

Do you have a citation for any allegation of FACTS where he actually solicited a bribe? I haven't heard it. A politician complaining that he won't get any personal reward for his appointment is not a solicitation of a bribe. This is law...you need real evidence, not embarassing bullshit. Again, this is a crazy fool whom I would never vote for---but if you accuse him of a crime warranting removal from office, you need evidence and not the phone call that I heard---that won't do it.
