There is no recording of the swearing in of Calvin Coolidge. Or for that matter, I don't believe Lyndon Johnson's swearing in was voice recorded, only photographed.

So, we just have to take it on the word of those who were there that the oath was recited exactly as delineated in the Constitution.

I'm no a Constitutional scholar, but I believe that the powers of the presidency devolved to Johnson the moment John Kennedy was declared dead in Dallas. And to Barack Obama the moment the clock struck noon in Washington on Tuesday.

But, as a practical matter, and likely a legal one, nobody is ever going to be able to have a challenge upheld to presidential legality over the transposition of a few words in the oath recital.

Obama redid the oath. He didn't have to, but it was less than satisfactory to him an he wanted to set things right and straight. He could fix it and he did. This is commendable and shows that he wants to get things right.

The Birth Certificate is another matter. He evidently cannot set that issue right. If it was produced do you think that if it had a problem we would "unelect" Obama? Hell no. We must accept a document that was printed after he decided to run for President. Any other references to his birthplace or citizenship must remain sealed and secret. You have no problem with that because you are a true believer and cannot be distracted by reason or facts. I have a problem with that because I am a skeptic and require reason and facts.

Therefore, since we are wired entirely differently, communication is impossible. I understand you and your slavish affection for a leader sense you lack self esteem and confidence as programmed by the MSM's many sitcoms, psychobabble shows, crime programs and action programs. A slogan like "Believe" or "Hope" or "Yes We Can" is all that child-adults like you need. It isn't your fault. OK, let's say that the oath HAS to be taken, with the words in the EXACT order as in the Constitution. (And it would seem that a president needs to take this oath in order to be "official" since the oath is preceded by: Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:

However, the 20th amendment to the constitution states: If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified;

Assuming that a flubbed oath means Obama was not "qualified", and I don't think the flub was crucial since all the words were in the oath, wouldn't Biden be President until Obama took the oath again?

I really cannot figure out what the Republicans would gain from this in any way, shape or form. I think Chris Wallace was making trouble and it's a shame that Obama had to cave to this type of Stalinist crap, but I'm glad he quickly rectified things and moved on.

As far as that clown Limbaugh spewing about how Roberts had to cue Obama to say "So help me God," uh, that part is totally optional. It's not in the original oath. It is a ridiculous observation on Limbaugh's part, since the entire oath is "cued" as most vows, oaths or affirmations are.
