... hopefully, are toast.
(trying not to be cocky)
;)
Isn't that the place that sticks your fries AND cole slaw IN the sandwich instead of on the side? I can't understand why people like that...
"...Steelers will first have to defeat my hometown Baltimore Ravens."
Piece of cake!
Of course Rendell will root for the Eagles if they get to the big game. He does the post game broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet just about every week, and is very entertaining. There's no way he could pretend to be even the slightest bit impartial or torn on this one.
But first they have to beat the Cardinals. One game at a time... Go Eagles!
...but the corned beef sandwiches from Attman's on Baltimore's Corned Beef Row beats the crap out of any wimpy sandwich from Pittsburgh OR Philadelphia! No fries or Velveeta needed-- just corned beef, rye bread, and mustard. Period.
If I'm correct, the Bay Series (interrupted by a certain act of god) was the last monoregional major championship? It was fantastic, as was the series between KC and St. Louis a few years prior. I LOVE them! The passion of the fans in the stands really does make a difference for the better!
Bring it on!
...except that they're a lovely distraction from our Mayor's indictment for stealing Best Buy gift cards. Seriously. And yeah, there's a fur coat and envelopes of cash to pay the Amex bill, but um...
Yea! Go Ravens!
...in order to advance to an all-Pa. Super Bowl, the Steelers will first have to defeat my hometown Baltimore Ravens.
I believe the Steelers have already done that twice this year. See ya in the 'burgh for butt kickin' #3.
Rendell did not "spark" the snowball incident at the Vet. Most of us blame Jimmie Johnsons hair. They did catch Rendell on tape, um, participating in a way.
Having said that, the guy was mayor of Philly for 8 years and, as mentioned before, does post-game analysis on Comcast. He's Philly through and through.
BTW: That game beteen the old Cleveland Browns and the old Houston Oilers was top notch football.
Eddie Rendell is the consummate politician: he is glib, he is astute politically and he is tenacious. He is a Pennsylvania pol of the first order and magnitude. For him to eschew Pittsburgh in favor of Philadelphia in a (possible) all-Pennsylvania SuperBowl shows that he knows the Philly area is the 800-pound gorilla when it comes to electing people in the Commonwealth. Ed Rendell is NObody's fool.
A good bet is that Governor Rendell will run against Republican Senator Arlen Spector in 2010. Not only is Arlen fighting a return of his cancer, he is an endangered species: a moderate Republican in a party that is careening wildly even more to the right. Pennsylvania is becoming bluer election by election. Rendell is coming to the end of his mandated two-terms-only run as Governor and has much to offer to the Commonwealth and the nation before he retires from anything.
Ed Rendell is a good Governor who will be Pennsylvania's next Senator. Betting against Eddie is a loser's play...count on it.
I agree with one game at a time. But, a totally PA Superbowl, with Springsteen playing half-time, would be so SWEET!!
. . . that the %*@ckin' Ravens are ANYONE'S "hometown" team. "Old Cleveland Browns" indeed.
Go Steelers -- and Ed, we understand. You are forgiven for insisting on backing a lost cause.
it's a team you stole from Cleveland. AND YOU KNOW THAT ALREADY.
I pray that Philadelphia does not get to the Stupidbowl. When the Phillies won the resulting parade paralyzed the city. Hate to see what a football win would do.
Professional sports are stupid - I don't see how a locally-owned team with millionaire players recruited from around the country represents a city or state more than any other team.
I'm thinking 100 pounds of Utz potato chips and 20 cases of Natty Boh. Or some of those gift cards intended for the poor that she's so fond of.
Actually, what you refer to is called a "Pittsburgh style" sandwich, and Primanti's isn't the only place that makes them.
Anyone who thinks they'll have an easy time against Baltimore is crazy. It's tough to beat any team twice in a season, let alone three times. I'm glad it's in Pittsburgh and that the Steelers hate the Baltimore Browns, um, Ravens.
I'd love to see a Cardinals-Steelers Super Bowl, though. That's because Pittsburgh would have a better chance against Arizona than against Philly.
Thst would be Cheez Whiz - a completely different gourmet cheese food - on your Philly Cheese Steak!! And, um, just for the record...Utz Potato Chips are made in Hanover, PA...so you would want to be munching on Utz and drinking Yuengling, while you watch the ALL PA Superbowl!!
I believe the last "monoregional" major championship was when the Yanks squared off against the Mets in the latest installment of the Subway Series back in 2000. Then again if all you need is two interstate participants (considering Philly and the 'Burgh aren't really that close to each other) - then maybe the SF Giants and the Anaheim Angels in the 2002 Series qualify.
As a native of Erie, PA and I'd love to see the Steelers bring home Super Bowl title no. 6.
"This is the man who — legend has it — sparked the snowball-throwing frenzy in a playoff game against Dallas in 1989. "
Not a playoff game, as Dallas went 1-15 that year. The game was during the regular season.
Maybe not a big deal fact-checking wise, but I still like to point out that Dallas went 1-15 that year.
You sound like a true Eagles fan when you go out of your way to highlight a Cowboys losing record.
Fly Eagles fly!
Used to be MY hometown Browns. So lets hope the Steelers beat them en route to losing to whoever comes out of the NFC.
I understand your resentment. I am constantly explaining to my friends from Indiana that their Colts are actually MY Colts and I was one and half when they moved. I know two wrongs don't make a right, but I feel pretty justified about Baltimore getting a team again.
