Joe the Plumber: "I think media should be abolished from reporting"

In Israel, the newly minted reporter calls for an end to war reporting and a return to good old-fashioned propaganda.

The letters thread is now closed.

@EatingRaul

I think you said it best. Thank you.

@Eating Raul: Correction

We now have a NEW national idiot. Our old national idiot is about to leave office.

Monday, January 12, 2009 09:54 AM

Oh sure he's a fool

A fool who claims to have voted for Obama.

Monday, January 12, 2009 09:55 AM

@EatingRaul

I would posit that we have about 160 million National Idiots. Of course the number may be greater than that.....

And I, you know, think

that soldiers should be abolished from the battlefield and replaced with Republican morons who couldn't get certified as plumbers.

JtP's voting record

Wait. Can anyone verify how JtP voted? Because, I don't think he voted Obama.

1. While JtP said he was "appalled" by some things her heard on McCain's Straight Talk Express, the idea of Obama as president was "even scarier."

2. He also said that "A vote for Obama is a vote for the death of Israel." (Actually, I think technically some yahoo at a campaign stop offered that, and JtP gave it an Amen, brother). That was 10/28 or so.

3. Did he even vote at all? What with all his aliases and the misspelling of his surname, wasn't he purged from the Ohio voter rolls (BTW, thanks, GOP!) He didn't vote in the OH primary.

Go away Joe!!!

Based on this sample of his prose, he is definitively not “Joe the Writer.” Then again, he’s not really a plumber and his name isn’t even Joe.

I prefer "Joe the Dumb Ass."

yeah, here's your problem, right here

ya got a clog in your information pipeline which is blocking the flow, from too much information being flushed down it. what ya got to do is install a filter so that only the little bits of information can pass through, keeping the really big information out. that big information only makes problems for you.

Stop.

Please stop giving this man press.

His opinion is ill-informed and meaningless and unworthy of any attention.

The reason he gets silly jobs like this one is because there are just enough blogs on the Internet, like this one, that can't resist the urge to cover his every move.

Once you stop, he will evaporate back into jobless obscurity where he can go back to ignoring his taxes and ranting at the TV screen from his couch.

Cautionary

Fellow thoughtful Salonistas:

As a former reporter (five papers) and radio talk host, please understand that JTP's little stint is being covered with utmost seriousness by the fascist wing media. In stories in the MSM, Joe has been described as a 'reporter.' Maybe not a journalist, but a reporter.

There are at least 20 million Americans, possibly many more, who will swear that (1) Joe is right on his views of the media in war; (2)he's on the side of Israel, so he's one of the 'good guys,' (3) that we need more citizen journalists like him in the national media.

This is a clear and present signal of how serious the denigration and bastardization of journalism has gotten in this country. That an obvious moron could be given THIS kind of exposure shocks decent hardworking journalists all over the world and makes US journalism look even weaker than it is (no mean feat).

While it's easy and fun to find new synonyms for "idiot" to describe him, as a former journalist, this makes me sick to my stomach.

Just stop already

if you'd just stop giving this jackass a stage perhaps he'd disappear. He has nothing of substance to say. Same goes for Sister Sarah Palin.

Joe's Logic on Reporting

And, the American people are supposed to believe that this buffoon speaks for the "everyman"?

Yes, it is uncomfortable for news uers to read about things going wrong on the side they favor to win a war.

Instead of practicing "shoot the messenger," intelligent news customers should use it to decide how THEY should run THEIR government as Jefferson intended for encouraging information being made available through the free press.

Ironically, the "free press" of Jefferson's time was much more biased than Joe the Plumber believes today's version to be.

And yet, Jefferson realized the benefit of the fourth estate of government in educating participants in a democracy.

Their reality has lapped our satire

Yet again!

How soon do you think Camille Paglia will hail this guy as a hero?

Shall we start a pool, just to make it interesting? I'm putting $10 on her next column. We'll hear all about his joyously creative use of the English language, and how it reminds her of bebop, or rap, or flamenco, or whatever type of album she was playing the last time she smoked a joint. Then she'll drool over his sheer, physical masculinity and how he embodies the best of patriarchy, because she loves to make feminists furious. And then if anyone criticizes him, she'll threaten to ride on her broomstick and swoop down on them, and their little dog, too. Joan Walsh, care to get into this betting pool?

Monday, January 12, 2009 12:23 PM

Yup!

He definitely sounds like a conservative. No doubt about it. You betcha.

More exposure...please

A recap of how exposure does work to expose:

1st exposure: Joe the Plumber seemed a thoughtful and concerned citizen, genuinely concerned about the effects of Obama's tax plan on his life.

2nd exposure: Joe was used shamelessly by McCain, who invoked his name 20 or more times in a presidential debate.

3rd exposure: We found out that Joe the Plumber was not really a licensed plumber at all, and in fact was in no danger of being taxed at 250K. Fabulous.

4th exposure: We found out that the right-wing chirp machine would still use Joe despite revelations that he is an absolute fraud...oh, the pageantry!

5th exposure: We found out that backwoods conservative Joe is truly concerned with how Israel is treated. Which is so effing funny...all hard-core anti-Semites don't know whether to shit or go shopping...truly rich!

6th exposure: Joe shows up on every half-assed right wing news outlet as if he has a worthy opinion...desperation is a cheap cologne! Celebrity trumps...well, everything!

7th exposure: Joe is revealed even further as a complete idiot and unintentional stand-up comic. How does he think the news reals he celebrates got to our movie theaters in the first place? Ummm, reporters Joe...like you *cough*

Keep the light on him...it's been fantastic so far, as it usually is, for revealing interesting things for those of us who are qualified homo sapiens.
