    Modern America

"not because of any of the criminal allegations against him, but because he'd been working so hard for the children and families of his state."

Of course he did. This is modern America - a public figure must immediately don the mantle of “victim” and attempt to justify his actions as simply striving for justice for the downtrodden – anyone who disagrees is a racist/sexist/bigot.

It’s like every one of them has become a Mrs Lovejoy: “Won’t somebody PLEASE think of the children?!”

It has literally become impossible to parody how far public figures have taken the victimhood mantra. It's not funny. It's sickening.
