Can Harry Reid do anything right?

The new Congress is only two days old, but the majority leader's having a tough time already.

The letters thread is now closed.

I'll Be The First To Say

So long, Harry. Thanks for the effort, yaddayaddayadda, see you 'round.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 02:27 PM

And I'll second the motion...

don't let the door hit you in the ass, Harry.

Reid and Pelosi both

Both of these supposed "leaders" have been completely discredited by their own acts of both commission and omission. If nothing else, we need actual "leaders" in there, or at least people that understand they won and need to act as though they won. This constant capitulation and Kumbaya crap with people who will and have stabbed them and the people who put them in power in the back repeatedly has to stop. Make the damn Republicans compromise for once. If they won't, let 'em eat dirt.

I am bereft of hope...

That anything effectual will be accomplished with Reid in a leadership position.

Maybe he was punched too many times in the head when he was a boxer...

More blunders, more flip-flops, more concessions to an increasingly belligerent GOP, that will be Reid's leadership style for the remainder of his days.

Republicans must be smiling

The republicans in the senate must be smiling at Reid's recent comments. They know they can push him around. Reid will buckle at the first sign of republican opposition to anything. Is it possible for the senate dems to remove him from his position? Anyone know the answer? We need a leader, not a wimp like Reid in charge.

not really

The country is split down the middle. I know of morons out there that think some cultural revolution will take place now.But that is stupid. The thing with politics is that when you lose, you know eventually you are gonna win again. We will see if Obama has what it takes to be only the second 2 term dem since wwII.

Media needs something to talk about.

Yawn. Such "controversy".

Is that the yipping of Rush and his doggies? No. Its Salon with nothing else to do.

Congress has a shitload of very important things to do. Reid and Pelosi are the leaders of congress. I don't care about Burris. No one cares about Burris except the talking heads. I want to make sure I can pay my mortgage. I want the economy fixed. I want the war to be over. I want sanity restored. That's what they are there to do. They are not there to walk the minefield of punditry. They are not there to satisfy liberals. They were elected to solve problems.

Fuck the right wing shriekers. Fuck the left wing shriekers. Fuck whatever pet ideology you happen to hold. I don't care. Let congress do their job - which is not to please everyone, its to solve problems.

2 term dem

Bill Clinton was re-elected. So Obama would be the 2nd 2-term dem since WWII.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 02:46 PM

Short answer: no

Senator Feingold should be the majority leader. Where the fuck did this Reid clown come from? If I was in Utah, I'd be wanting to recall him, just like we need to recall that Feinstein scumbag.

How does the average voter seek redress and relief from these morons? Who do I call? Email? Mail?

Also, Conyers for Speaker of the House..

Reid's comments about Ted Stevens

make me want to puke. That is all.

Wait...did Dewey defeat Truman?

Always be suspicious when people try to make it seem like the Republican Party has been way more successful than the Democrats. To wit: Truman served two terms, one to which he was appointed when Roosevelt died after only a few weeks of the term had passed, and one to which he was elected. He then presided over the end of WWII. Most of his first term and all of his second term came after World War II. So he was the first two-term Democrat since WWII. Clinton was the second, and Obama would be the third. The Republicans, meanwhile, had Ike and Reagan and Bush II.

Or to look at it another way, between 1945 and the inauguration of Bush II, the Democrats and Republicans each held the presidency for 28 years. If Obama wins a second term, the parties will be dead even since WWII.

Give Reid The Hook!

Jeepers H. Christmas! Reid cannot be serious. Has he no understanding of what the last 2 elections were about? We want accountability from our politicians, who are utterly corrupt and our financial institutions, as well. Earth to Reid: We want heads to roll, you fool. The reason these crimes keep getting repeated is because there is no price to pay for wrongdoing.

The New Joe Leiberman

This guy is embarrassing me.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 03:46 PM

I'm sure Reid is a nice guy...

But his more "genteel" view of process in the Senate would only work if everyone was playing the same way. As long as Republicans seem intent on behaving the way they have, the Dems need to consider someone who can be a stronger force to manage them.

Time to look for ...

...a nice ice floe with HR's name on it. Send him on a long overdue bon voyage on the inky black Winter seas.

Harry Reid couldn't wipe his ass...

... without begging Mitch McConnell for the toilet paper. Can you spare a square, Mitch???

I am with Christopher Michael Neill that Feingold would be a better choice for majority leader, though I'm not sure the Democrats have the will to change "leadership" (or rather, actually initiate leadership, since that's been completely absent these past few years) until forced to. I wish that wasn't the case, but we may be looking at 2 years of spineless capitulation until Reid's possible ouster in 2010.

I don't know if Feingold is a realistic choice... I'd also enjoy seeing Teddy the K head the party, but I doubt his health would allow it. Somewhat more reluctantly, I'd suggest that either Pat Leahy or John Kerry would be much more suitable than Reid and wouldn't face the kind of opposition that Feingold might for his "ideology" (hey, can't put someone with actual political and ethical convictions in a position of power now, can we?).

How about some bipartisanship?

I'd love to see some bipartisanship: between the Democrats and the American people. Americans consistently tell pollsters that they are much more liberal than Congress and it is high time Congress started throwing us a few crumbs.

Also, while drug rehab may help some criminals lead productive lives, I don't think Stevens' addiction to graft can be rehabbed. Toss him in the klink.

Sure would be nice

to have a Senate majority leader with a spine.
