'nuff said.
Ann Coulter adds nothing of any significance to our national dialogue.
I wish Salon would ban any mention of her. What does it accomplish?
Most of this was cross-posted to the other Coulter thread on Salon:
I was a captive audience this morning so I tried to do other things (like make breakfast).
Of course, Matt Lauer had to try asking somewhat serious questions while treating her with a modicum of deference. It made me sick.
But the fault lies in ourselves, the American public. There are at least 20 million hardcore fans of Coulter and they are a plug and play audience - if she's on, they'll watch. Radio and TV programmers know this and act accordingly.
And of course, she's not the only one - there's Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, O'Reilly, Limbaugh and a host of others of varying degrees of outrageousness. They all have their own plug and play audiences and programmers will allow them far greater latitude in making outrageous statements - because as long as they're on the conservative side, they generally are in agreement with corporate America at some level. And, of course, if you wrap anything in the flag and patriotism, you can get away with verbal murder. I always remember the hilarious speech in "Animal House:" if you attack the frat, you're attacking America. Funny then, not so funny now!
And even at their best, Olbermann and Maddow only have a fraction of the above mentioned persons' audiences.
What we have lost, I think, is a certain civility and rationality in American discourse on all levels - not just media. And since we've devolved into a bread and circuses, lowest common denominator culture, I fear things will continue to degrade.
I sincerely hope our future isn't like the one portrayed in the movie "Idiocracy" but I wouldn't bet against it at this point.
All I can say is - thank heaven I missed it! Coulter oozes so much malice that I find it difficult to look at her at all.
Anyway, based on reading this item, I'm glad that Lauer challenged her on the use of "B. Hussein Obama". Anybody who makes such a point of insisting on emphasizing that middle name...as if simply having that name actually revealed anything about his beliefs, positions or loyalties...is simply displaying their bigotry.
wahhhhhh - you banned me
-wait, let me flip my hair -
wahhhhhh - you won't let me talk
-wait, let me grin at the camera -
wahhhhhhh - you take me out of context
-wait do you like my legs? -
wahhhhhhhh - you make me explain myself
loved her screed on single parenthood. would love to her and single mother Laura Ingraham back in the green room talking about what a problem Ingraham is breeding..
Their sin is not obeying their liberal overlords.
She may be popular with a segment of the audience, but why give her voice when she says nothing? I'd love if NBC put a real conservative on to discuss issues and have real discourse. They're only adding fuel to her fire, and she's an attention arsonist. Her 15 minutes need to be up.
1) Does anybody else think that Coulter looks like a malnourished Marilyn Manson?
2) Every time assholes like Coulter open their goddamned pie-holes, the entire CONservative movement looks more like a bowel movement. She reinforces the ridiculousness of her "cause."
I'm so glad to see that the Today show reversed their ban on Coulter. When I think how very very close we were to losing her crucial contribution to the national dialogue, it makes me shudder. How can we possibly deal with the perfect storm of problems created during the past eight years without her thoughtful reminder that Barack Obama's middle name is Hussein? That's a vital perspective that is far too easily overlooked by the liberal media. His middle name is Hussein, people! Wake up! Hussein! His middle name is Hussein! Only Coulter dares speak this dark truth to power.
So kudos, NBC, for having the courage to give air time to her valuable message. Hey, and while you're at it, there's a homeless guy in my town who lives under the bridge, but by day you can find him down by the post office mumbling something about the "committee of seven." I'd send a crew out. We don't want to lose his valuable perspective either.
STOP giving this woman a platform. STOP pretending that anything she says or does is even remotely relevant.
Let me explain something to you: Anne Coulter is a clown. She feeds, and profits, off of the attention her outrageous remarks generate. Her ideas and opinions are ridiculous, to say the least, and offer no insight or new information into the topics of the day whatsoever, except perhaps a glimpse into the pathological mind of the right-wing. If she ever really believed the nonsense she spews, by now that relationship is merely a pragmatic one - she says crazy shit and gets paid for it. By even mentioning this woman, you are contributing to the cycle of attention she requires. Not only do you mention her, you mention her solely in the context of a completely orchestrated attempt at yet more publicity.
Salon, Alex, let me be clear - you are part of the problem. Welcome to the corporatized MSM. Please let me know when you get a scoop on Pelosi's latest facelift, or catch wind of marital strife in the Obama household.
Without this kerfuffle of publicity, only a fraction of the people would have known that Coulter was to appear. With this little blip, she got what she always wants - more attention. Handy when you're plugging your latest book.
Coulter had all but vanished last fall during the peak of election season. Perhaps she needed a little drama to call attention to herself and her big vat o' bile. Meanie recast as victim of the big, bad media giant NBC.
Ann Coulter is an intelligent and articulate person. She is also batshit crazy.
How can we persuade all media outlets to ignore this person? She is not only mean but ignorant. Her attacks and arguments make no sense and are based on prejudice rather than reality.
