Supreme Court won't hear Obama citizenship case

Without comment, the justices declined to consider a lawsuit that contends both Barack Obama and John McCain are ineligible for the presidency.

The letters thread is now closed.

cue "watcher," "stinkpot," other wackos here...

Wait---

We're the wackos, because we refuse to question the "hoax" that's sitting right before our eyes.

Obviously I agree this will do nothing to quell the noise. The project is simple, and elegant in its simplicity: do not. stop. ever. Keep questioning the legitimacy of the Obama presidency. Make enough noise that this endangers the rule of law, not to mention the next election, the very lives of our president-elect's family. Nothing matters but forwarding your cracked agenda, even as the country and economy crumble around you.

I pity you. And I pity all of us. I'd say let it go, but I know you won't. But I won't be here to argue with you and give you more rhetorical ammo to fuel your fire (which, I know, is proof that I'm "scared" of the truth as well).

The conspiracy nuts

Especially those who posted in response to the main article, have no evidence of their own, just outlandish ideas and a refusal to accept any proof they're offered.

Those that really believe the conspiracy theories I can at least feel sorry for. It isn't their fault their brains don't work right. Those that push this kind of story for racist/partisan reasons are traitors plain and simple.

Monday, December 8, 2008 08:58 AM

Dear God, they'll say...

This means that SCOTUS is part of the conspiracy.

Tell you what, guys - grab your guns and get to your bunkers for the next eight years. You won't be missed.

What A Relief!

For a moment there I fearing a Campaign 09 redux.

Oops

That should be "was fearing".

Whack jobs of the world unite. . .

. . . and commence your wackiness.

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:12 AM

Koppelman, you are full of it.

There is only one piece of data that is required to stop this nonsense. You can stop building your strawman arguments.

Just have your man release the document from 1961 and the case is closed.

UNLESS IT ISN'T - WHICH MAY NE WHY HE WILL NOT RELEASE IT.

At least until the Secret Service provides him with a decent forgery. They keep track of the best forgers out there so I suppose we will have to wait until it is their job to defend the president against his own stonewalling.

Now go unload your pants.

"Without comment..."

This is one of those times when someone probably should have said, "This is fucking nuts. With all the problems/issues we have to deal with, why are you wasting our time. Get help!"

Oh, and if they want to obsess over whose shouldn't be eligible for the presidency, where were these people eight years ago?

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:14 AM

It's a damm shame...

...one couldn't be a fly on the wall to hear the Supremes debate time-wasting insanity like this. :)

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:15 AM

My dear Sarcastro2

SCOTUS - the 2000 Presidential Election.

If you don't think that Bush won fair and square, you must be a conspiracy nut.

You believe in WMD or are you crazy?

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:15 AM

Thanks, SS

for providing Figure 1 in this case.

I couldn't have demonstrated it better myself.

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:16 AM

It just gets worse...

Now something_stinks is telling us that the Secret Service is in on the conspiracy. Ya gotta love it!

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:19 AM

Alex, I agree with your take on this "issue"

but, you gotta stop using this quote:

"There's no amount of evidence or data that will change somebody's mind. The more data you present a person, the more they doubt it."

it screams of weakness on your part. you know, some conspirisies exist. but by your logic, they are all false.

I do not believe Kennedy was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, but you know..."There's no amount of evidence or data that will change somebody's mind. The more data you present a person, the more they doubt it."

so, i guess i'm crazy and magic bullits do exist!

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:19 AM

Whaaaaaat?

You mean Hopey is actually a US citizen?

Good Lord, does that mean he isn't really a closet Islamic extremist and fully committed Jihadi? I hope not, otherwise he's not going to be wearing a suicide vest at the next "Big 8" industrial meeting.

Talk about not following through on your campaign promises.

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:22 AM

something stinks

Sorry Stinky, but your cries lack evidence. Show us a reason other than your fevered imagination or shut up. Give us some evidence, not just your braying that something isn't right. Hell, you can't prove Bush was a citizen by your standards either. You probably can't prove you are.

The situation as it exists right now is that Obama is a citizen. To change that, you need solid evidence and you have none. In science or even in the NFL if you want to show that the current state of affairs is misunderstood you have to have conclusive evidence. You have none.

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:24 AM

Hooray, Something Stinks! IMPENETRABLE circularity!

Just have your man release the document from 1961 and the case is closed.

At least until the Secret Service provides him with a decent forgery. They keep track of the best forgers out there...

See, so even if he releases the hospital birth certificate--which, unlike the state certificate that was released, has no legal force, as was explained ad nauseum on Friday--then it's really just a fake! ($5 says the wingnutosphere typewriter/font experts will demonstrate it to us, over pages and pages of text, within one hour of its release.)

Bravo, sir! Keep the faith!

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:24 AM

@stinky

Just have your man release the document from 1961 and the case is closed.

UNLESS IT ISN'T - WHICH MAY [B]E WHY HE WILL NOT RELEASE IT.

At least until the Secret Service provides him with a decent forgery. They keep track of the best forgers out there so I suppose we will have to wait until it is their job to defend the president against his own stonewalling.

This kind of thing is just so adorable! You've got the opening salvo: "There's a conspiracy going on and I won't believe otherwise until [exhihibit A]." Then you get the backtracking on any possible future sanity: "Anyways, when [exhibit A] it's going to be fake/faked/a lie and so I won't ever believe you. Which is why I'm right."

Monday, December 8, 2008 09:24 AM

Could you find another source

The whole "more information feeds more conspiracy theories" meme is being overgeneralized. Yes, there are people who are prone to thinking this way. But they are not the norm. Most people are willing to accept evidence that neutralizes their existing beliefs, if it is presented in a way that fits into other life beliefs. This evidence will not necessarily change their mind right away, but it weakens the hold of the wrong ideas and eventually can lead to a break with the authorities that are giving them wrong information.

It is understandable that it might seem otherwise to you, because the people who believe the most extreme ideas tend to dominate web discussions (they tend to be quite passionate and vocal). The more rational people choose their arguments more carefully and tend to be more willing to change their minds - and they also post less.

It's always worth neutralizing ridiculous rumors. They tend to morph into even more ridiculous rumors. You may not convince the hard core believer's, but you can stop the spread to the people who have slightly more open minds.
