Matthews advised to quit MSNBC for run

Chris Matthews appears to be taking more steps towards a Senate campaign, but some insiders wonder if he's just angling for a new contract.

The letters thread is now closed.

I may be wrong, but...

...I don't think you have to be a resident of a state to run for the U.S Senate from that state. Remember the wingnut from MD who ran against Obama in 2004 for the IL Senate seat? Still, Matthews may want to establish residency to blunt some of the carpetbagger criticisms.

Go away, Chris

I don't care what he does. He lost me years back with his behavior toward the Clintons and other Democrats. I don't watch him at all!!!!!

Matthews just blows

like the wind!

He goes in whatever direction is popular at the moment. He went after Bill Clinton when it was the easiest path to media success. Matthews supported Bush when that was popular.

If Matthews shows "liberal bias" then it's because he thinks that's what people want to hear.

That's just awesome

Matthews or Spectre. Ain't democracy grand for those of us who live in Pennsylvania. Why not just throw in Hannity as a far right alternative and we can have a douchebag trifecta.

Thursday, December 4, 2008 09:48 AM

Just get him off the damn TV

I don't care where he goes just shut his stupid giant head up.

What frightens me.....

is that this clown is the kind of person that thinks he should be running for office. If he wins, God Forbid, he will be making decisions about running our f***ed up country. Won't that be different for this blockhead than just shouting about how other people are doing such a rotten job!!!

Thursday, December 4, 2008 10:01 AM

Christ Matthews...

is a misogynist pig and a know-nothing airhead. I'd rather keep Spectre... at least when all the misogynist airheads are on one side of the aisle, it's easier to keep track of them.

Matthews Senate Foray........

Oh what fun!

Thursday, December 4, 2008 10:45 AM

By all means

Please Chris, by all means come out of your controlled vacuum chamber and stand up in front of people as the target instead of slinging arrows from the sidelines.

Thursday, December 4, 2008 10:45 AM

Run, Tweety, Run!!!

Things have changed a bit since you were TipO's right hand guy...

Thursday, December 4, 2008 11:04 AM

Please... spare us the spectacle

of Matthews' ego entering a race for the senate!

There are many better Dems/liberals/progressives in Pennsylvania who I would be happy to see run against Specter, but Tweety is not among them. And he would not get my vote... no matter who he is running against.

Matthews pulls down $5 million per year for spraying spittle on his guests?

For shouting them down? For talking over them and cutting them off rudely? For spending less than an hour a day in front of a TV camera?

Wow, that is some fucked up shit.

And Olbermann makes even more than that? Well, I guess you can see it in his wardrobe and eyewear.

I wonder how much MSNBC is paying Rachel Maddow? She's soon to be one of the richest out dykes in the world, apparently. You go, grrrrl!!

Interesting Posts

There are some interesting posts here. I agree with most of them, that is, Chris Matthews should just go away. As a PA resident, I long for the day when we can give Specter his walking papers. Let's face it...we're in an economic meltdown, and his top priority is Spygate and the NFL. Good grief. I'm sure the Democratic Party here can come up with a more experienced (and more respected) candidate than Matthews.

Residency apparently is not a big issue here. Rick (remember him?) owned property here but lived in Virginia.

Why is political bias always bad when it leans to the left. Where is the outcry over Faux news, CNN, CBS, ABC, etc. etc. etc.???

Get the Bum out and Throw him Out

I hope his contract has a rider that won't allow him to come back.

But who is this "insider"?

I've seen this story a few times today, always citing Democratic insiders as saying Matthews is being pressured to give up his seat. Please tell me this isn't a reference to Phil Singer's blog post calling for Matthews to resign. (http://themarathonblog.com/2008/12/01/if-matthews-is-mulling-senate-run-he-shouldnt-be-on-the-air-by-phil-singer). I guess he would qualify under the vague "Democratic insider" banner, being Clinton's former spokesperson, but he admits bias toward Matthews and it seems very slick to be using that piece as kind of sourcing on a rumor that Matthews is being told he should quit.

What are his quals?

All Matthews ever says is he "loves this stuff," meaning politics, slanted commentary, who knows. What makes him an authority on what is good for the nation or us poor, idiotic, badly used citizens? He has been part of the MSNBC effort to foist Obama on us and is now busily slobbering all over The One's wingtips. I can hardly watch that channel anymore--and will not watch a second of Maddox or the sportscaster guy.

Where would he do the least damage?

If he walks onto the Senate floor as ridiculously unprepared as he is when he goes on TV, he could vote for a bill establishing martial law and never even know it. That's a lot more harmful than wasting ten minutes or so discussing whether Joe Biden should be a gentleman and offer to push in Sarah Palin's chair at the VP debate, when the most minimal research would have told him they'd be standing at podiums and not sitting in chairs. On the other hand, his stupid bloviations wouldn't reach as many Americans on C-Span as in his current gig.

What Goes Around Comes Around....

So....let's see if we can play Hardball here. Matthews will be a carpetbagger, buying a house in Pa just so he can run for the Senate and is wanting it both ways, perhaps using everyone for his own best interests; everybody knows he only does what's best for him, staying on at MSNBC while he puts out rumors of a Senate run. Is this because he is negotiating a bigger contract or because his contract is in jeopardy and we should all feel sorry for him and the voters of Pa will give him the Senate because he is a victim scorned? I hate to say it, but, that's why, because he is rejected by MSNBC, you know that, I know that. Of course, that shrill laugh and that seedy hairstyle, not to mention that problem he has with his saliva is something we will have to put up with and, as he grows older have to watch on TV; nothing worse than watching a man grow old on TV. I wonder where they will seat him so he doesn't pick a fight with the other Senators; he's so polarizing and divisive and such a b------(rhymes with custard). What qualifications does he have anyway; just because he was an aide to somebody years ago doesn't qualify him. What do we know about him on the issues; what party will he run from, sometimes he's Republican, sometimes he's Democrat, depending on his latest infatuation.

Have I left any of his comments out about one certain female presidential primary candidate?
