Don't count the Bushes out yet

The outgoing president's brother Jeb says he's considering a run for Mel Martinez's Senate seat.

The letters thread is now closed.

Squash this early

A republican senator retires leaving an open seat in Jeb's home state in 2010, which means the term will end in...2016, which may be the next open Presidential election. The Democrats need to find a strong challenger now for this race to brand the Bush family as the losers they are before they regain a foothold in the Senate.

Call me naive...

...but I don't see it. I don't care how popular Jeb may appear to be--the Bush brand has been effectively (and thankfully)destroyed in American political discourse. I'm not one to underestimate the stupidity of voters, mind you, but I think even aloof citizens would readily perceive this as a step toward a presidential campaign. What might THAT slogan look like: "This Time We'll Get It Right?"

Florida?

The state that can't add two ballots together and get 2? Be still my heart. What are the odds of a truly inspired wobbler that winds up in a razor thin recount. And as we know, all ties go to the Republican.

names, schmames

Well, a person with "Hussein" for a middle name and a last name one letter removed from "Osama" is the President-elect. So maybe even the Bush name isn't necessarily a liability ... in some places.

Drive a stake in it!

The very thought makes my blood run cold. Haven't we had enough Bush crimes since the beginning of the 20th Century? Two world wars + two failed presidencies? A tanked economy twice?

God help us all.

Gov. Bush is still popular even if his brother is not

Governor Bush was actually a very effective and well-liked governor despite some of the commenters who seek to link him to his brother's failures. He would win a landslide in Florida, much like Saxby Chambliss did last night in GA.

Barbara Bush's uterus.....

Is the root of all evil.

Diable4

You said it all.

All Bushed out

Barbara Bush's uterus.....

Is the root of all evil.

Diable 4, you got it on the money, honey. Now I'm hoping that should the Bush Twins reproduce (and they probably will), their offspring doesn't continue to spread that evil.

Bite your tongue. Hard.

If he does run, I have a proposal for his Democratic opponent's first campaign slogan:

"How many times do we have to attack Iraq before we stop electing these people?"

Terry Schiavo

Remember that? Three bites out of the Supreme Court Apple and they still refused to hear it. Doctor Feel Good or Else's diagnoses from the well of the Senate, W coming back to Washington and signing the bill in his cowboy PJs? Finally Jeb trying to send the state police to snatch this woman up? The only thing that stopped that was the Chief's refusal.

Yeah, right, Pro Life. Do we really need somebody in the Senate we things they have an absolute moral high ground just because they get it straight from Rome? Yup, Jeb converted!

Backward

Florida must the the most backward of states. Do they really think sending another Bush clone to DC will help anyone but the Bushes? It's just incredible that the people of one state could purposly send the brother of a war criminal to commit more war crimes in their names. Florida is a disgusting place not fit for intelligent beings.

Jeb '16

He's the smart one...

Nah, not the right feel to it.

Not that kind of Bush...

Still not quite right. I know:

We need more Bush!

23/6 states the problem nicely

Pardon my McCain-ish ignorance of how to make this a hyperlink to the intertubes:

Name Change in Order

Jeb will make a quick trip to the local magistrate to change his name...

...probably to Roger.

Bush?

You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the........ especially the rubes from Southern states!

Bushes out

This Country will never allow another Bush in office. The present Bush has done so much damage to our Country financial, morally, lies, torture, etc., Now Bush has hired Karen Hughes and Karl Rove to remake his images for history and we the taxpayers are paying for these two dead beats to make up more lies on his behalf, ENOUGH OF BUSH CANCER. Also I await when Congress will finally bring charges on Karl Rove for his Treason of the outing of Valerie Plame. Right now he is making millions on speaking tours, working for FOX LIES, Wall Street Journal, tell me crime does not pay well, ask Fat Karl if he is starving!

It's about Florida's speed...

...Being the Banana Republic that it is. The only good Bush is a burned Bush.

Thursday, December 4, 2008 06:43 PM

No Way, No How, No Jeb

No more Bushes in politics ever again, and none of their relatives or close friends. Never. Jeb may have been popular with some Floridians, but that day has ended. He wasn't a good governor; he wouldn't be a good Senator; he would be a disaster in the White House, just like his brother, because the whole family is a bunch of crooked carpetbagging grifters, each and every one of them, including the one with the "beautiful mind".
