Report: David Gregory to host "Meet the Press"

The search to replace Tim Russert, who died in June, appears to be over.

The letters thread is now closed.

Yuck

Well my Sunday mornings are now free... it used to be my favorite show, then we had to bear Tom "I have marbles in my mouth" Brokaw, now David Gregory... tool. Great. Thanks for wrecking MTP for good NBC.

Well, Darn it

I know Glenn Greenwald is going to be so disappointed.

A funny guy

Politico reports that Gregory will bring an element of humor to Meet the Press. Yeah, right. The only thing about the humorless Gregory that made me laugh was his wonderful little dance with Karl Rove. That was funny.

Why would they pick...

a Science and Enviroment correspondent for the BBC? That makes no sense...

I get an hour back on Sunday....yeah!

I've been trying to watch with Brokaw, but it has been painful. With Gregory at the helm, I'm done with MTP. The guy has no chops or depth. Hell, his own show in unwatchable. Katie Couric would have been far better! I don't know what the hell is happening over at that new division, but things will get worse before it gets better. To Stephanopoulos go the spoils!

Tools

Gregory will be just about as good as Russert, who was also a tool for the Bushies, and all conservatives. Brian Williams' unabashed admiration for Rush Limbaugh is an embarrassment for any so-called mainstream media hack. David Gregory's dance with Rove was emblematic of his relationship with the Bush White House. And Tim Russert's willingness to parrot Cheney's every utterance as though it was gospel was obscene.

But GE's war profits are all that matters, for NBC.

David Gregory to host :Meet the Press"/ NO!!!!!!!

I am not a fan of this replacement since this could never be one. I always though Chris Hansen of NBC's Dateline was a good questioner when he did his predator shows. He is young, smart and unafraid to confront anyone.

I hope this pick is not engraved in granite. I do not think Gregory has the same level of professionalism necessary to hold that seat.

It is an insult to the memory of Tim Russert to have Gregory come in and sit in the seat of pros's without earning it. Gregory is still in many ways green. As I watch him on MSNBC on 1600 Penn. Avenue, he is gracious and smart but misses hitting it out of the ball park. I guess compared to the nasty Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann, Gregory does appear ready. I have never seen Matthews conduct his self without his biased reporting. Olbermann the same. I would rethink this person and get Chris Hansen to compete. Hansen has been my pick from the start.

Shallow!

How about somebody smart, who asks thoughtful, probing questions? Rachel Maddow could be fantastic in the MTP format. And the guys in power couldn't dodge her like they do on her show now.

Gregory?

First rule: Never pick a person with a name that relies on two first names unless they play professional sports.

second rule: Never pick a person who doesn't have the brains they were born with to interview like people.

third rule: Who cares? Anyone watching the pundit line-up realizes they are all from the same ilk. Corporate america shills with 45 piece suits. Christ. He's even a worse dancer than Rove. That in and of itself should have eliminated him from the cesspool.

Gregory's lucky that his shirt has buttons as he cold never get it over his inflated, ego-centric head...

Gregory is a good pick

He asks the right questions and does well at it. I'm not sure why so many of you think he's a bad choice. Have you seen him at a white house press conference?

Who else can replace Russert anyway? No one. I think it's a tough job to fill and no choice will be perfect. Gregory is a pretty good one though considering who is out there to choose from.

Rachel Maddow

I agree with Tina brown. Rachel Maddow should have been named moderator. She is always well prepared and would hold the guests feet to the fire. Gregory is a borderline Bushie.

David Gregory

David Gregory doesn't appear to have the intensity or depth for that job. Hopefully he'll suprise us. And unfortunately no one else, (especially from MSNBC) seems sharp enough for that job either.
