Clinton still raising money

Bill Clinton sends out a fundraising e-mail congratulating his wife on her nomination to be secretary of state.

The letters thread is now closed.

Template?

It almost seems like the contribute was a template for the e-mail. I didn't read anything in the e-mail asking for money or explaining why we should contribute, it was just added at the end.

I am hoping the software they used just automatically added that graphic.

Obama's emails do this too.

It's just a template they use.

And who cares anyway.

Why is this a story?

Tuesday, December 2, 2008 12:14 PM

It's a story

because this position is going to be pretty costly to her. If she had declined, she could have continued raising money like this and used her Senate campaign donations to pay off this debt while she funded Senate re-election campaigns out of what she raised for the POTUS general election. At least that's my understanding of the law.

Now what will she do? I presume she has to put her primary campaign into something like Chapter 7, maybe negotiate down some of the debt and then pay the rest out of pocket.

Meh

It's maybe a little tacky, but not more so than any campaign fund-raising is, and certainly less so than some kinds.

HillPac

I also got this E:Mail along with similar E:Mail under the heading of HillPac. The HillPac E:Mail's suggested the money would be used to support candidates that Hillary wanted to help, but I always wondered if some of the money contributed to HillPac would be kept to pay off her campaign debts.

@joekatz

Not every solicitation you receive says "give money". Even though the intended result is exactly that. No rampant program added the donate button. It was the sole purpose of the e-mail. And you know those informational e-mails you get from charities and other organizations? They are priming the pump. Three "cultivation e-mails", then the solicitation...it's e-fundraising best practice.

Alex...I got the same e-mail and regular Hillary solicitations and messages, and I did not sign up to support her campaign. You didn't really need to explain. But I can imagine why you did. People looking for signs that aren't there.

Hillary lent money to her campaign...

So this is just raising money to pay her back for the money she spent on herself?

Huh...

I should send out fund raising letters to help pay off my credit card debt.

Makes Sense to Me

Hey, if I could put a button on all my e-mails that would enable readers to give me money, I would do it. Wouldn't you?

One minor ethical question

Is it ethical to post email sent to me on the web as it is? Just asking.

@Nita Martin

Bingo.

$$$

It's all about the dollar signs. I am sure her and Bill have plenty of money to go around. I hightly doubt they are hurting much. But before you know it Hillary will be asking Obama to "bail her out" of her finical crisis. And because these illuminati are on the same team he probably will. I'm sure big O has some extra cash these days.
