Bill Clinton puts out statement on wife's nomination

The former president says he's "deeply proud" of Hillary Clinton, and -- as an American -- "thankful" that she's been nominated to be secretary of state.

The letters thread is now closed.

Woof

The Big Dog just HAS to bark. Seems like he could have let Obama and Hillary have their say for a while, before he nosed in. But, everyone knows that he can't stay too far off the stage, and it's not a big deal. I'm sure Obama can handle him.

Obviously,

the man wants to make it clear how very proud of and how much he loves his wife.

Had he always demonstrated the above, he might not have such a great emotional need to overemphasize it now.

Monday, December 1, 2008 08:56 AM

Typical...

he's the corpse at every funeral, the bride at every wedding and the baby at every baptism...he just loves to suck all the air out of the room. I would expect him to be proud of his wife without the need for a PR release saying as much.

BFD

Who. F**king. Cares? Criminy, Bill. Go away. Far away. And shut the hell up.

It. Is. Not. About. You.

I like Bill's bit about endin' the war in Iraq

I suggest very strongly that Hillary keep that one on track..

Bill Clinton's popularity should be put to use now.

Here and particularly around the globe, he is wildly popular and respected (Monica not withstanding).

Hillary will serve us well, for all the obvious reasons. Having Bill along will be a two-fer for which we should be thankful.

Publicly saying he is proud is reasonable and appropriate and cynics should apply themselves to much more deserving targets. Saxby Chambliss?

Monday, December 1, 2008 10:21 AM

@ Nita Martin

Can you give me any indication that Obama has asked Bill Clinton to be part of his team or that he is looking for a "two-fer?" It is not wrong for him to issue a statement, but I see no reason for him to do so at the very time that Obama is formally announcing his selection of Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State. Bill Clinton should avoid giving the impression of being a competitive comic stepping on the other person's lines.

You seem to think I am complaining that Bill was interfering with Obama's moment. Do not overlook that he can also be seen as interfering with Hillary's moment.

Bill Clinton puts out . . .

I second the emotion: Who the fuck cares??

Monday, December 1, 2008 01:31 PM

the banter...

I don't understand how these two illuminati can work together. For months and months they ripped each other, low blow after low blow. And now Obama is asking her to be on his team? That just doesn't make any sense to me! I hope they don't fight now...

@ hong db , aka smith and the other clinton despisers

I do agree with y'all when you say how bill's got to be around in the limelight all the time. but I agree more with nita and what she said! he can/has both help[ed], well as hurt, hillary in too many ways. and I'm not talking about the fucking monica blow job in the white house' oval office. as for the monica deal? well, hillary's not leaving him showed that she a stronger Feminist Woman than many here in america including many so called modern feminists. one whom did not have to cry out " he cheated on me! boo! hoo!" [ have to admit that I, myself, would probally go ballistic/teary eyed if I was her.]

but true, she lost the " moderate" women's[D- primary] votes of many, along with the black women; because ol' billy boy was right there in the background talkin' up his southern charm. he definitely made hillary look weak as a " stand by your man" woman.

but later, after obama was the nominee, she then worked her fucking ass off to try and convince over 20 million majorly pissed off feminist women to back obama all the way! that a vote for mc cain would simply be a , quote; " sell out your cunt and uterus to the religious right assholes like operation rescue." something which many, but not all, hillary voters for mc cain soon realized was 100% true when 'sarah moose-cherry' was chosen as 'gunner mc dick's' VP!!! [ by his friend carl rove, I'm sure??]

believe me, there still were a few idiot women left the last week in www.hillaryvotersformccain.org, all whom saw mc cain as the new messiah!

I do agree that yes, she can both use the best of bill's knowledge in foreign affairs, yet must keep him on the shortest dog leash, or apron strings, possible, and say " whoa boy! the feminist mistress is the one in charge here, Mr. Bill! as for his proclaimed " love for his wife"? I think it is more political, as what he and hillary have is simply an open-ended political marriage. a political BUSINESS partnership and that is it!

for years I've often wondered if what those " offensive" stand up comedians like jackie martling were telling at least a half-truth when they cracked jokes about hillary being a lesbian or bisexual? if she is?[ not sure] well more power to her if she leaves bill for her! as I think that would do her a lot of good to put Bill in perspective and then; drop the Clinton from the Rodham!

@ cherylsass123

Please don't misunderstand me. I have absolutely nothing against Hillary Clinton. I think she may make a fine Secretary of State. I also believe in many ways that Bill Clinton was a good president and that the right persecuted him for political reasons. However, I also believe that he is most likely a diagnosable narcissist. This is not his fault. However, being such, he seems unable not to feel competitive with his wife.

Unfortunate for her.

As to whether or not she chooses to remain married to him, that is not my concern.

Monday, December 1, 2008 04:32 PM

@ AKA smith

you are like so right, and I've got to 100% agree with you, when you say that her # 1 problem is Bill! I will not disagree with you there at all. and yes, she is a bit of a narcisist, but that may be why she stays with Bill?

Monday, December 1, 2008 04:34 PM

@ AKA smith

and to add, you're right about him with her. she is a powerful woman that many men simply can not deal with. all in all, I too think she'll make a great SoS.

Monday, December 1, 2008 10:26 PM

and yet ...

(While not denying AKA Smith's and others' thoughts on Big Bill)

I can write the comments reacting to Bill Clinton saying nothing about Hillary's nomination.

"That Bill: his wife is going to be the next SoS! The least he could do would be to say he's proud! What a narcissist!"
