The Democrats should challenge everyone in 2010, including having new blood go after some of these entrenched Democratic Dinosaurs. The ones that let Traitor Joe back into the fold. There should not be any give-aways. Make them earn their offices. It is time for these politicians to learn that the public cannot be walked over and ignored. ENOUGH!
Assuming that there's no need to consolidate is base (i.e. fend off a primary challenger), it seems to me that if McCain is at all concerned about the very popular and very effective Napolitano, then he's going to have to quickly resuscitate his maverick image -- by defying the GOP and occasionally standing with the Democrats. He will have to show that he's part of "getting things done" rather than the coming tide of GOP obstructionism.
This is good news -- even if Napolitano ultimately doesn't run! We could effectively have a 60th vote on several issues, courtesy of the Maverick.
Despite what the local knuckleheads in the AZ papers might have you believe, Janet is still very popular and many Arizonans are tired of not having a second Senator every two years to run for President or any attempt to bring federal money to our state (which is not always pork!!).
John McCain should retire with dignity instead of getting his hat handed to him by Gov. Napolitano!
Considering how healthy he didn't look during the campaign this fall, this whole discussion may prove to be hypothetical. I suspect that in the fairly near future we may be hearing eloquent farewells to Senator McCain while his colleagues secretly mop their brows with relief as they realize just how close we came to a Palin presidency.
If he were running against anyone else in the Republican field. But since John McCain is from here, he didn't bother. Remember, Clinton won the state in '96, and Gore could have had it in 2000 if he had tried (one visit from Lieberman's wife? Please!). The state is getting bluer and bluer, Hispanics aren't white enough for the Republicans, so it doesn't look good for him in 2010.
