Team Obama plays nice with Bush White House

In the transition team's first formal briefing, John Podesta tries to play down a dust-up over leaks from Monday's Obama-Bush meeting.

No point...

... telling them they will be charged with war crimes at this point. They will only start heading out for Argentina.

Obama will find that no one there really knows what's been going on

The White House has been on cruise control for more than a year. I'd be shocked if Bush shows up to work 3 days a week.

Change is good

It is encouraging to hear that the Obama team are beginning to take a damage assessment. Executive orders on day one, makes me happy to hear. Bush, and the committee behind him, took the government apart, shook out all the money, and pocketed it. They also changed any regulation or policy that protected the environment from rape, minorities from discrimination, and us from the corporations. Hitting the ground running is going to be necessary just to clean up the carnage 'the Bush administration has left behind after feeding.

Let's hope the Democrats and Obama have been planning how to fix everything, piece by piece. I believe that they have, I hope so because our future depends on their level of preparation and a lot of luck.

I cannot wait...

...well, not so much to see Obama in the Oval Office, but rather to see the list of Bush pardons: Commuter Libby of course, but who else? He's already issued over 150. And can he unconditionally pardon Cheney before any future conviction like Nixon was? And if Alexander Haig was correct, Bush could also pardon himself.

I admit it. I will miss the evil of the Bush Administration, but not much else.

Deliberate Choices

I appreciate that the president-elect is being deliberate and taking time to make decisions, calls, and announcements. It's a welcome change from the parade of incompetent cronies the current occupant seems to have blindly picked from a list of friends.

transition budget

Does anyone know why it is going to cost the Obama administration $12m to officially manage the transition? Apparently that's more than double what had originally been budgeted, so I am curious what is causing this spike in spending? I mean, I get it if he's stocking up on angel wings, new puppies and cigarettes, but just curious.
