And there go the shreds of your legacy.
I campaigned for Nader in Florida in 2000. (I can hear it now, yes maybe Bush is my fault)
But the reason I can turn 180 completely and walk away, in his mind.
Only Nader can save us, if it's not him it will never be good enough, and we are doomed to failure.
So if Nader can't see this is as far as the American public will go toward his vision of America. He's as lost as we were in 2000. Too bad cause once, he actually mattered.
Somewhere in an alternate universe there is a Ralph Nader who is still well respected and continuing to do good works. Sadly we are stuck with this one.
Kinda takes bitterness to a whole new level doesn't it? And you know he's been practicing that line for the past 24 hours, too. Jackass.
You've always been an ass. It's just that in the past you were an ass who got things done.
Now you are just an ass.
Given Obama's vote on the FISA bill supporting amnesty for telcos that broke the law, its is an absolutely relevant question to ask. After, despite all of Obama's positives, if he doesn't support the rule of law, especially in the context of the rich and powerful over the people, then what the hell is the point of all this anyway?
"Well there's his time. It's over."
Poor angry Nader. He can come to Canada and be irrelevant here. No wait, we already have enough irrelevant politicians.
Nader could have made his point without racial epithets. Fact is, if Obama were white, the "uncle tom" bit would make no sense. This is the karma Nader is getting for giving us Bush.
I've always known that Nader was an arrogant ass clinging to shreds of relevancy. I'm actually sort of glad that he just burried himself with that comment. Now there is no way that everyone won't know what an arrogant and irrelevant ass he really really is.
I'm so glad I never voted for him. He is so over.
Nader, you narcissistic twit - go away.
You continue to be biggest waste of space. A pompous windbag who has long slid into irrelevance - let's see if you can get even less of the vote next time.
The man seems determined to trash any tiny remaining bit of respect that anyone ever had for him. It's sad to watch him fade away to this point where ONLY his vastly inflated ego remains.
Since McCain's loss, we no longer need to refer to him as if he were Homer Simpson's old man. Now, we have another irrelevant old fart who merits the title. Ralph Nader is now, officially, the 'nasty old man yelling at clouds'.
This is Nader's Nadir.
He is the reincarnation of Robespierre, the whiny bitch of the French Revolution who talked about "virtue" but sent his friends and compatriots to the guillotine. He is the third grade teacher with an ulcer and undying hatred of children who would make everyone sit quietly and slash the faces of independent voices with the edge of a steel ruler. And he is absolutely humorless, which in a country like Canada whose greatest virtue is its wellspring of humor, would be horrible.
We won't send Nader to Canada. I think President Obama is very much against exporting any more terrorism.
Sickening.
As Ralph about "Uncle Tanoos"
For this kind of cheap snipe Ralph
There is no excuse.
But this makes me wonder:
Where is Ron Paul, and are there any stats on how many people wrote in his name?
You can accept the two-party system (whether out of practicality or fear is almost moot) or you can make it known that you're giving it the finger, one of the few luxuries of living in a non-swing state. Nader, like Paul, and Mickey Mouse, is just another way to do that. Singing his praises or cursing his name is also almost moot.
I agree with Ralph Nader on almost every position, but I cannot believe he would say something like this and, given multiple chances to back away from it, keep pushing it and pushing it. I think he's GOT a good point, but why not say "toadie" from the outset, instead of as a way of rephrasing it? The second we thought maybe people could look past a person's race, he brings us crashing to earth.
For shame.
He's washed up, but I know there are others out there who can pick up the mantle and are blessed with a bit of warmth and people smarts on top of it, and who will work constantly and publicly (as he used to do) instead of showing up once every political season and suddenly expect to completely change the world view of the populace.
With all due respect -- and I think the racial overtone of "uncle tom" is totally inappropriate and offensive -- I agree that Nader is asking a very legitimate question. The racial element is even legit in the context of, say, Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, which I happened to be reading in the lead-up to the election. It's the voice of the narrator's grandfather (if you've read the book), wondering how long the narrator is going to continue trying to play the white man's game. Corporate hegemony in this country is the white man's game par excellence. More than anything else, it's what's gotten us into this mess economically, energy-wise, and in terms of the conflicts we've allowed ourselves to be drawn into under Bush. To Nader's credit, he's challenged every Dem president since Carter on this very issue. Every Dem president has played "Uncle Tom" if you will to the corporate thieves who've turned us from citizens to consumers. I don't fault Nader for bringing this up, but for a white politician to toss it out in these terms on the eve of a historic election is totally out of line.
Wow! Quiet, effective, and profound interview. Identifies Nader as shallow, rutted and either devoid of understanding of literary symbolism or worse, a conscious user of its most heinous applications. Shades of Mein Kamp
