The hottest ticket in America tonight

If voters punch his Oval Office ticket today, Grant Park will be the hot ticket tonight.

The letters thread is now closed.

where?

Mock Crest Tavern, on Lombard & Wabash in NoPo, playin' jug band music and watching the returns.

Neighbors

I'll be watching and toasting with my next door neighbors here in California, a lesbian couple who are ready to see Proposition 8, the gay marriage ban initiative, go down to defeat. Here's to a momentous election.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:25 AM

guess I'm boring....

I'll be sitting on my sofa, switching between various news channels while checking out news web pages, nervous as heck until the election is decided.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:29 AM

election night get together with friends

No republicans or non-voters allowed! (unless foreign or felon)

I expect tears tonight. Whether we win or lose. I just hope they are tears of joy.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:30 AM

at the rally!

I'll be in Grant Park's Hutchinson Field for the party tonight! I'm so excited!

On the road to Agra

I will be leaving for Agra (from Delhi) at precisely 7pm EST by car. By the time the 4 hour journey is complete, I expect the election to be over. I suspect that I will miss Bill O'Reilly lamenting that this is the worst day in American history. I'll have to catch it all on replay at the hotel later.

Where I'll be

I'll be watching the returns with a good friend of mine who has a large screen TV. She and I think very much alike with regard to politics. We plan to send out for some pizza.

I am centrist libertarian, socially liberal and fiscally conservative

which means, I have approximately ZERO representation within government.

I do not care for either Obama or McPain, both are for bigger government, new world order, yada yada.

YET, there is one strong argument to be made IN FAVOR OF OBAMA which I have yet to hear expressed anywhere.

For eight years, the Repulsickans have had their way. They have brought this country to near fiscal ruin.

It is important to note here, the RIGHT have had their shot. They had the White House, Congress, AND Senate and the net result has been extremely negative for the country. Republicans will chime in that bringing in someone who will raise taxes on the wealthy is not the answer.

Well, SOMEONE has to pay for this mess. As the wealthy tend to gravitate toward the Republican Party, and the Republicans made the mess, the wealthy ought to have had the temerity to press Bush to quit shtting on the commons and jacking with the future of the nation these past eight years. They ought to have been up his ass on why it is that we, the greatest nation in the history of the world, have been laid so low in a mere eight years.

IT IS THEREFORE NECESSARY for the nation to be cleaned up NOT by bringing in another flavor of vanilla, with more questionable tactics and the same mess makers behind him.

It is necessary to, IF ONLY AS PUNISHMENT for the wealthy these past eight years having their WILDING FESTIVAL, make the party change to get this country back on track.

AND if our nation falls into naked Marxism under Obama, well, the WEALTHY who bankrolled the right these past eight years only have themselves to blame.

For if they had run this nation responsibly, we would not have been as vulnerable to desperate measures such as voting in an unknown black man in the first place.

In other words, this IS a sort of justice.

Tonight, Tonight, Tonight ...

OK, sorry for the lame Genesis song reference; my wife and I will be huddled on the ceiling, me with a Jack and Pepsi and she with a trank waiting for Keith Olbermann to call it for Barack. If that doesn't happen I'll get roaring drunk and then run out and torch every McCain sign in the neighborhood.

Home

I will be at home, nervous as hell, consuming excess quantities of certain intoxicating beverages, watching it all unravel with remote in hand changing from channel to channel. I will also have my laptop on my laptop cruising several key sites (one of which is Salon, of course). My wife will periodically peak into the den, however she is more nervous than I am, so she will keep herself busy, and she will go to bed early. My kids will probably stay away, sensing my nervousness. I will not sleep until more than one channel or website announces that Obama has won. I am predicting 2 a.m. before this happens.

Wish I was going to be in Chicago!

I WISH I could be in Grant Park, but I'll be on my couch after my little ones are in bed, waiting to celebrate an Obama landslide...and I'll be bawling like a baby when he wins...

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:34 AM

In Chicago, not at the main stage

We'll be in the rest of Grant Park, and if the crowds become too overwhelming, in our hotel room, overlooking Michigan Avenue. We made the arrangements some time back.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:34 AM

victory party

I'll be at a victory party in Flagstaff, AZ to celebrate Ann Kirkpatrick's win in AZ-CD1! Oh, and we'll be celebrating Obama's win as well!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:36 AM

At home with my wife and some beer

We had to buy some (hopefully) celebratory Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss beer yesteday, since Indiana doesn't allow liquor sales on Sundays or Election Day (no, I'm not making that up).

Assuming everyone gets out and votes, we'll be toasting an Obama victory (including perhaps even one here in Hoosier land). Otherwise, we'll be drowning our sorrows. As a Cubs fan, I'm always prepared for the worst despite my optimism.

Oh, and we'll be watching MSNBC, except for 10-11, when we'll be watching the Stewart/Colbert team on INdecision 2008.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:36 AM

I'll be at Home watching Faux News

laughing and laughing and laughing. More popcorn please

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:38 AM

Hangin' with Zimmy in Minne!!!

I will be (hopefully celebrating) with Bob Dylan in Minneapolis!

Let's hope that THE TIMES, THEY ARE A'CHANGIN' !!!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:40 AM

cigars and port wine

Watching the big screen with my brother-in-law and wife...

maybe sneaking a peek at Faux News a little too gleefully.

Buying a black rose to give to the @!(*& who gave me one four years ago.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:40 AM

Among friends

Me and the wife will be watching coverage here in Astoria, NYC. We'll probably be flipping between CNN and Fox News (the later solely to rubberneck and for a little juvenile enjoyment)

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 06:41 AM

Enchiladas and Election Results

We'll be spending the evening at home watching the election results and eating enchiladas with our family and neighbors. My brother will be spending the time worrying about how this election is going to be stolen also, and I'll be telling him not to worry so much. We will also be following my wife's sister's Wyoming State House race and hoping that she (a democrat) can oust an incumbent republican tonight. It is going to be close. Hopefully the national election is a blowout! There is nothing I would like to see more than 60 democrats in the Senate, not including the republicrat Lieberman.
