Godwin's Law as applied to polical campaigns

Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.

The online tradition is that -- generally speaking -- the person who makes the comparison loses the argument. I mean, it's not like one can't sometimes make a reasonable point by making a comparison to facism, but it's usually a sign of desperation.

As it obviously is in this case.

Facing Fascism

Everybody knows there's no such thing as fascism. Oh, sure, it existed in the early-to-mid 20th century, but it was resoundingly defeated in World War II, never to appear again. What's more, Americans are culturally immune to fascism, our government and populace uniquely exceptional and safe from the temptations of that long-dead ideology.

Further, the Republican Party is the least-fascistic party in American politics. This is known -- it's conventional wisdom, right? What, with its anti-immigrant bias; its hard right-wing ideology; its contempt for diplomacy and hatred of intellectuals; its hostility to unionism; its boundless thirst for war and militarism; its strenuous aversion to communism, socialism, and internationalism; its support of secret prisons, extraordinary rendition, suppression of civil liberties; its tireless efforts to demonize minorities and gays; its matchless propaganda machine; its aversion to democratic pluralism in favor of one-party politics; its determination to foist a cultural world order on all around it -- no, there is nothing fascistic about the Republican Party at all.

Frankly, it's absurd to even bring up fascism in political discussion in America. It can't happen here. Even when it happens, it can't happen here. Other countries have fascists. Certainly not America. Well, except for Obama, apparently, according to the GOP. And we should trust the GOP, as history has shown.

Good video

I hope someone like Brave New Films, makes a documentary about all the racial, fearmongering, anti semitic, anti black, anti muslim hatred and ugliness to be used for future elections, called: The Modern Republican Party.

Dammit, his freakin brother in law is a Rabbi

I love how the Republicans just pick these random lies with no connection to the truth

Irony Alert!

The only ones acting like the Nazis:

-- by demonizing a religious minority they claim is trying to destroy the homeland

-- by pitting the good decent, patriotic 'real' citizens of the countryside against the dark, swarthy liberal cosmopolitan elite

-- by stoking fear and hated of socialism and communism

...is the side that sent out these e-mails

So, if you're looking for "warning signs" -- the McCain camp is where you'll find them.

Slackie Onassis

Whom ever you are, I congratulate your intellect. Your writing skills match that of Rich Emery, as does your insight. This country, (what is left of it) may survive this election with the outcome in the favor of clearer thinkers, but I am not optimistic about the post election furor. The dead-enders hiding beneath the guise of their now new leader, "PALINaroundwithterrorists", will make sure the "Change" a win for Obama will install is assaulted from every side of the spectrum.

Nonetheless perhaps if a few more of the more recent converts to "our side" realize that this might be this Republic's last chance to pull the reins in and stop the fascist hate mongering that surfaced unabashedly in McAce's ugly campaign ignite a new way of thinking in this country. Maybe. Given the vast amount of money at stake resting on the outcome of this election it's no wonder the hate wagons pulled-up full volley. Probably the scariest aspect of those wagons is that their occupants still have an outside chance of scaring the poop out of the low information lemmings and winning it.

Keep your fingers crossed and light a candle to God.I am sure She'll look down kindly on our last chance for a real democracy...

Actually

It's Michelle's cousin who is the rabbi. I think it was her father's sister who converted, and her son is a well-respected rabbi in Chicago.

The stink of desperation and fear

I am not sure now which depths the GOP can now sink to. Every time I think they've hit bottom, they impress me again. They've gone full primate now: not just throwing mud but their own feces.

It is especially ironic that this email is sent on the eve of a plot by two Nazis to assassinate Obama. Honestly, it's so pathetic that if they weren't so loathesome I would actually feel pity for these people.

Blaming the Victims

"Many of our ancestors ignored the warning signs in the 1930s and 1940s and made a tragic mistake." Oh look, I guess the holocaust could have been prevented if only those Jews hadn't allowed it to happen. I'm sure that's going down real well with the recipients of that email.

Is Israel's free lunch over?

Zbigniew Brzezinski is Obama's foreign policy advisor.

So there is a legitimate reason for concern about how Israel will be treated with Obama as President and with Zbigniew Brzezinski as his advisor.

Comparing the present situation to the third reich delivers an insult to both the third reich and our own current crop of monsters, crooks and great leaders. Keep in mind that the Nazis lost.

Or did they?

Who authorized it?

I just love when "the party of personal responsibility" goes into its Sargeant Schultz mode of "I know nothing. No-think!"

The irony is that our current. sitting President

Truman/A. Stevens

not so fast, Thomas, the 4th is next week, not today. Let's not jinx Obama's chances to win by projecting McCain's loss before the election is held. As I read this article, I could see that famous photo of Truman holding up a newspaper whose headline read something like "Adelei (sp?) Stevens Wins."

Cheers

Not That Implausible

While Obama is ostensibly very dis-similar from Hitler, there are MANY strong parallels between the Obama Party and the Nazi Party. Let's go down the line:

1. Like Hitler, Obama is an EXTRAORDINARILY charismatic speaker. Hitler, of course, also drew crowds of tens of thousands, and LOVED mass-rallies in football stadiums. This is obviously the milieu of the Egomaniac.

2. Like Hitler, Obama prefers to crucify his opponents by disemboweling them before tens of thousands of adoring Obamaniacs. Obama is generally very polite in one-on-one debates, but then tears the people apart when he gets on stage and he draws upon the heady vapor of mass adoration.

3. Like the Nazi Party, many of Obama's followers are complete ANIMALS. They gang up on any opponents of Obama and tear them to shreds mercilessly. This has been the case with Hillary and McCain, and spectacularly (and gruesomely) with their sadistic torment of Sarah Palin.

4. As the Democrats will soon find out, Obama is not really a Democrat. His objective is to have an Obama Party, much like the Nazi Party. This organization of ObaManiacs will be TOTALLY LOYAL to him.

The core of the Obama Party will be BLACK, because Obama has stated in his books that he does not really trust whites. They don't understand his African tribal mentality.

5. Blacks are the people who are capable of being most similar to the Nazis. The Nazis were basically a collection of extortionist crooks. There main objective was to steal as much as possible and to take over other people's businesses and fortunes.

With the very large population of Black Gang members, and black prison inmates, Obama has a tremendously strong base for a party of neo-Nazi terrorists.

Most whites, of course, are too stupid to be afraid of this. Stupid white liberals look at the white side of Obama and ignore the black side of Obama.

But it has been the "black" side of Obama that has given him the real muscle to pull ahead in this election. How stupid white liberals find that admirable can only be explained in one word: Stupidity. They are stupid fools.

6. The ObaNazi threat continues with the connections to the neo-Nazi Farrakhan, who views Hitler as "a great man", and who sees Obama as the black messiah. It is further supported by the anti-semitism of Obama's "spiritual mentor" Jeremiah Wright who voted Farrakhan as "man of the year".

7. I suspect that Obama has VERY deep ties to Farrakhan that are kept well hidden. They popped out at one time when the Obama camp crowed that they had had "a million contributors". Like the "million man march" that Obama attended?

8. Another nasty parallel is that we may be entering another Great Depression. Plus, America is currently looking a little like Germany before WWII. Much of America's greatness is gone. It has been SQUANDERED by those who outsourced our industry and technology, leaving us with a bunch of over-priced housing projects that nobody can afford.

I don't necessarily think that the Obamaniacs will target Jews, but at the same time, there are some nasty similarities between Obama and Hitler.

This is not something that should be dismissed as absurd.
