Ok, now the girl definitely doesn't have my sympathy. Congratulations Ashley! You are now famous (actually infamous) for doing something stupid all because you got frustrated that your candidate is losing. This young lady obviously has serious personal problems, very likely including mental health issues. We need to show some simple human compassion and concern for her, and not beat her up unnecessarily. That includes avoiding the temptation to use her as some sort of "spokesmodel" representing deranged pro-McCain or anti-Obama groups or individuals.

The real question is whether this was the lone act of a seriously disturbed McCain supporter, or whether she had help, and if so, from whom?

You would think a professional rabble-rouser would have paid more attention to detail to make the story more believable, thus implicating the lone wolf theory. However, the McCain campaign has proven to be so incompetent, I wouldn't doubt that they could screw this up, too.

She got a call expressing 'concern' from McCain and Palin. As in, "We're very concerned that you screwed this up, you idiot Texan! Can't you guys get anything right?"

I feel sorry for her. She is a mere child, as anyone over the age of 40 can attest. I hope she gets the help she needs.

What she did is probably about as despicable as it gets. If the story had held, it invited not only political violence, but racial as well. I don't think they can go too hard on her. And I don't think she "needs help" as much as some people are suggesting--if she had actually mutilated herself, then I'd say she needed help, but that "B" isn't even a scratch--at most it's welt from something blunt like a key. That--and the calculating nature of the setup for this--are not the work of a crazy person, just a mean, selfish, careless and stupid one.
