Protester tries citizen's arrest of Rove

At an event in San Francisco, a woman tried to slap handcuffs on the former Bush advisor, but he fended her off.

The letters thread is now closed.

If Congress was doing its job...

...such stunts wouldn't be necessary, as Rove would already be behind bars. Sadly, she'll be painted as a kook by the mainstream media, and the whole thing will go away.

How sad for our country.

Code Pink

I think it's a travesty that we have to rely on Code Pink loonies to enforce the law in this country. First off, she sounds like an idiot demanding a California woman join them on stage and trying to shake Rove's hand. Who chose this person for this job?? It's almost like Rove chose her himself!

Then we've got the spectacle of seeing 2 Code Pinkers being dragged away, 1968-Democratic-Convention stylee. What does that say to the folks watching at home besides "Oh, there go those loony hippies again!"

Interesting how this gets passed off with terms like "protest" and "citizens' arrest."

If I tried to do that to Nancy Pelosi, or Barack Obama, the press would quite rightly use words like "assault," "battery," "attack" and "assailant."

Woman, shut up and go to jail, thank you very much.

Precious Indeed

Finally a sans flag pin wearing American with some ballz.

While her methods may be somewhat ill-advised, I applaud her anyway for some good old fashioned what my dearly deparated mom would have referred to as "gumption."

Guess I'm in trouble now, but it's not like I'm unfamilar to that neighborhood either.

San Francisco is a great city.

I wish this citizen's arrest had been successful :)

@Elephantman

Karl Rove promoted criminal operations within the White House.

Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama have done nothing that holds a candle to the sort of criminality Rove has routinely executed in a position of high power, that I know of.

As far as I can tell, your logic is broken and should be taken in for repair. Please do let us know how you can back up that ludicrous comparison.

*takes a seat and puts chin in hand, awaiting Elephantman enlightenment*

HA! ROTFL.

Elephant boy

how about those suits you bought for Todd Palin?

While I realize you aren't actually a donor...but more of a minimum wage RNC guy looking to get a job as a Dirty Tricks spitballer...and talking points creative....

but doncha ever want to have your wife have a job where she can expense account two months worth of suits for 50K?

let em eat Armani? Right?

Now can play concern troll about Code Pink.

I guess you don't know the difference between Dick Tuck and Donald Segretti, right pal?

Or the difference between Performance Art and the German American Bund.

Political Balance

Nobody ever claimed that the left didn't have its "radical" element. However, I can live with sharing the same political views as former hippies and Code Pinkers(?). They are relatively harmless, with the exception, of course, of the infamous Bill Ayers types.

On the other hand, I could never be connected with a political party that shares the same ideology as intolerant religious nuts and racists, like the division of the Klan that put membership flyers on the windshields of commuters' cars in Long Island the other night. I'll take my "wingnuts" over theirs anytime.

Why Rove?

Although I think Code Pinkers have their heart in the right place, their antics do nothing to help the progressive cause. They only feed into the "leftist kook" meme the MSM is all too happy to exploit. Besides, I don't think Rove is even a member of the Bush cabal anymore. Sometimes these people seem as out of touch as the epithet-hurlers at the McCain/Palin rallies.

Elephantam

I don't know why I'm bothering, but didn't she say she was making a "citizen's arrest?" I bet if some "loony" jumped up on the stage with Obama or McCain (and survived, because, seriously, I think the Secret Service would shoot first and ask questions later) and shouted that they wanted to make a citizen's arrest on Obama because he's a Muslim terrorist-loving anti-american commie or McCain just because he's a Vietnam Manchurian canidate, I think the news media would report that it was an "attempted citizen's arrest." That went horribly wrong with the protester got the literal and figurative snot beaten/tasered out of her by a phalanx of secret service agents, campaign supporters, Michelle Obama/Cindy McCain, and the crowd. See, Karl Rove is really not "equal" to Obama, McCain OR Nancy Pelosi. Sorry.

Karl Rove, the last time I checked, wasn't an elected official. He's a private citizen, so I don't think he gets a government securty detail. Though he might want to look into it beefier private one. And I'm sure he gets a TON of death threats.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 10:36 AM

I must say....

Rove looks like what we used to call a sissy, before that word became P.I. He's just a little too girly, if you ask me. I'm glad there's still a civil disobedience streak in this country, though.

Wish she had actually arrested the little bastard.... Wonder where she was planning on taking him??

@Chillie10

I have to agree, Elephantman has no logic behind his statement. When has he ever? I am all for people with conservative points of view speaking their piece in the Salon comments sections, but without fail every single one of them who has come along ends up resorting to irrational talking-point B.S. instead of making a thoughtful contribution.

What ever happened to Notorious WES, lolcait, Cythera, Rosemary Regello and all the other near-psychotics who used to come in here regularly to claim Obama would lose to McCain, assert Obama is the second coming of Mussolini, and constantly use terms like "Obambi" etc.? The least they could do is show up long enough for us to rub their noses in how horribly wrong and wrongheaded they've been. Instead they've all cut and run, ironic considering their chest-beating politics.

And I think we can all agree that Karl Rove is guilty of multiple crimes, even if he never has to face any actual jail time for them. (Indeed, the Bush Administration has written legislation tailored to shield them all from legal consequences.) If the worst thing Rove has to face is a Code Pink protester, or a mocking comment from Sheryl Crow, he's getting off easy.

@ Xrandadu

Hey, man. Notorious W.E.S. may have been a bit annoying, but he only really beat up on Obama during the PRIMARIES.

After Obama won, that poster stated clearly that he'd be happy to vote for him, but he was concerned that Obama didn't have nearly as good a chance of winning.

(Just for the record.)
