Photo of the day

You can't claim to be really devoted to John McCain until you've applied some body paint.

The letters thread is now closed.

And... action!

Is this the set for the gay, top of the ticket version of "Nailin' Paylin?"

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:40 PM

Didn't McCain learn not to trust a Letterman?

How long before someone crops the picture to have the last three "lettermen" plus John McCain?

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:40 PM

Hmm. Looks like the one on the far left is wearing . . .

rouge.

Shouldn't be a problem though. The McCain campaign believes in makeup to the tune of several thousand dollars.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:40 PM

Just makes me wonder . . .

How much those guys got paid. And don't try to tell me they did it because they were passionately inspired by the fantastic campaign being run by John McCain . . .

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:41 PM

backdrops

Damn, the McCain campaign sure knows how to pick 'em...

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:41 PM

photoshop...

That's not even a particularly good chop job. The focus is inconsistent and the red paint is fake. You guys need to hire someone with a better eye for this kinda thing, that is, unless you wanna keep posting pics of palin holding a gun in a bikini, and calling it news.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:46 PM

Ugh!

The photo is as distasteful as McCain's campaign, if not more so. No child or grandchild of mine shall EVER attend St. Anselm's!

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:49 PM

That is gayer than Tom Cruise in Top Gun

just for the record.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:53 PM

Fake

I'm with wolfmason. I wonder if the hack that did it was trying to do McCain a favor? Pathetic.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:53 PM

From fans in face paint

To perverts and flashers

McCain's broken so much new ground

His poor pained ass hurts

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:55 PM

yeah

It's pretty funny... and anything that mocks McCain is fair game at this point. BUT... as a guy who uses photoshop all day professionally, I have to agree that I would be VERY surprised if this wasn't a crude example of a totally fabricated photo.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:57 PM

Seriously

Those have got to be the most somber body painters I've seen.

Ususally people who paint themselves up are happy, cheerleaders, ready to rally for the cause.

These guys look like they are having their mug shots taken.

You get the feeling these are actors who answered a craigslist posting and were kind of disapointed to realize there was no way to put this on their resume that didn't seem really lame.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:00 PM

Body Art

Damn, if those Log Cabin Boyz aren't at it again...

For shame on ye.....

Hypocrisy I say...

:-)

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:02 PM

Not a fake

It's a Getty image and two versions of it appear on their website:

http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?EventId=83298535#

(scroll to the bottom of the page).

I read an article recently that described Sarah Palin as representing "the vulgarization of America". A bunch of doods with their shirts off and letters painted on their stomachs seems like a natural continuation of the decline.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:04 PM

Check that -

Sorry - scroll nearly halfway down the Getty page. For some reason I thought I'd gone to the very bottom. At any rate, theh photos aren't hard to spot. They, um, stand out from among the other backdrops!!!

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:05 PM

photoshop

I doubt it is photoshopped. I went to a Palin speech last week (hey, I was curious) and they had the same thing. Only they painted white shirts on themselves before painting the letters on, so it looked slightly less beefcake.

But wow, McCain, for being against gay marriage, that photo sure isn't helping you much.

Need 3 more

MAVERICK(ITY)

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:09 PM

Football

Well, lots of people have long complained that American voters can no longer distinguish politics from sports, or voting from "supporting their team." That we've got too many "Republifans" and too few voters.

Guess this is the next logical step.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:11 PM

Maverick

Well, I agree with the ICK part.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:18 PM

Photoshop?

Doubt it.

Christ, we've all seen college kids do shit that was a lot more stupid than painting "maverick" on themselves.

Plus, when I was in college back in the '90s I remember all the Greeks were required to vote, presumably Republican. Wasn't like it was a secret the all the frats leaned conservative.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:18 PM

"That is gayer than Tom Cruise in Top Gun"

If it were "gay" we'd see some incredible bodies, not the Poppin' Fresh Doughboy x 8.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:35 PM

Ick!

Note the ICK over John and Cindy McCain's heads. The ICK is in the far right of the photo. Also note that the men have lost their shirts, another sign of the times. It is a shame the audio is missing, but for those who were not there, the guys had just finished dancing to "You Can Leave Your Hat On" when the McCain's came out on stage.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:40 PM

Frats for hire?

It looks as if the McCain camp went to a frat house and paid the house to send some members to do this. Frats are often paid for showing up at rallies.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:46 PM

"Oh, Sen. McCain...

...we wish we knew how to quit you! But you're just so DAMNED MAVERICKY!"

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:48 PM

"Hmm. Looks like the one on the far left is wearing . . .Rouge"

No. He probably just has a drinking problem. and I bet one has probably date raped someone by now.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:53 PM

Makeup

The guy on the left looks like he's wearing makeup!

Who are the real Mavericks?

It's interesting that McCain, with heaping truckloads of help from the "Fawning-Corporate-Media" (FCM), miraculously managed to co-opt the all together good name of the real Maverick family of San Antonio Texas. They were absolutely, unabashedly, far-left leaning progressives, as well as organizers for the Texas ACLU.

McCain, and his entire campaign of darkness and despair should be nothing short of a complete and total embarrassment to all Americans with a functioning conscience.

When will this fever-dream of the past eight years finally end?

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:57 PM

Another example of stuff that would make Obama un-electable

Assuming this is real...

If Obama had half-naked guys with their chests painted - especially if they were all...say...African Americans - this would be an anti-Obama McCain add.

If that isn't poor judgement...

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 01:58 PM

Misunderstanding about the meaning of 'maverick'

Fail for not realizing that 'maverick' refers to cattle that aren't branded across their bodies.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 02:03 PM

What's Next?

Joe the Plumber ass crack?

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 02:04 PM

if you thought gays were a dem voter bloc,

re-think!

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 02:05 PM

Yikes

That's just embarrassing.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 02:09 PM

That settles it...

McCain obviously has a lock on the pasty white guy vote.

They don't look particularly happy, though. At least they can spell.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 02:18 PM

nah

After looking at the Getty site, I am even more convinced that it's Photoshopped. There's just too many clues. Lighting, size, perspective....

I do this all day, every day for a living. I could be wrong, but.....

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 02:27 PM

From an old cowgirl:

Has anyone ever thought about how mavericks actually get to be mavericks?

Their mothers rejected them so they wandered off and didn't get branded.

They are too stupid to stay with the rest of the herd and are thus vulnerable to predators.

The bulls ran them off.

When the rest of the head went to the watering hole, their noses were stuffed up and they couldn't smell water.

They have something mentally wrong with them and the whole herd rejects them.
