How real Americans dress

The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin and her family.

The letters thread is now closed.

They got off cheap--

Imagine what the bill would have been if Cindy McCain had been their personal shopper.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 06:33 AM

not to mention...

palin's getting alaska to foot the bill for her kids' travel expenses. hope she's at least giving the frequent flier miles back to the state.

Yeah, but ...

John Edwards haircut! Crucial to our national security.

And ... what if? Hillary's pantsuits cost several grand? I just know that our 'important' issue republican friends would have left that alone, in the name of what's best for our country, of course.

The hypocrisy knows no bounds. Truly.

TREND - Palin is a free spender with other people's money

Where is Salon on this story?

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/sns-ap-palin-family-travel,0,7233585.story

What we have here is a pattern of self-serving at the taxpayers' expense. If covered properly by the MSM, this pattern should not sit too well with the anti-welfare, 'pro-America' constituency McCain is counting on in PA, VA, OH, etc.

$8,672.55 on make-up?

On the one hand, McCain obviously needs it. With his white-as-a-sheet complexion and lumpy face, he could use the kind of attention that undertakers devote to making their "customers" look acceptable for the visitation. On the other -- you think maybe this'll get as much attention as John Edwards's haircut? You think Maureen Dowd will devote an entire column to snidely questioning his manhood? Of course not, because even when they're on their way down the drain, Republicans never get that kind of treatment.

Worse Yet

The clothing thing doesn't bother me as much as seeing her two school aged children accompany her to many of her rallies. Although 150,000 bucks does seem quite steep, as someone who often shops at Neiman, they certainly do have a number of womens suits available for $300 - $400 dollars in the sale section.

But more concerning is that her younger school aged children are not in school. They seem to be with her all the time. My children are in school right now. Why aren't those children in school?

This was on Politico?

I'm surprised Page Six didn't break this story.

To borrow from Senator Obama, from Saks Fifth Avenue you can also see all the way to the Russian Tea Room.

One can only imagine...

...the high decibel level that would have erupted from the usual conservative gas-bags, had the Obama/Biden campaign or the DNC spent money in a similar way.

Just look at the fake controversy from "Page Six" over Michelle Obama's lobster-dinner-that-never-was. Hmmm -- was that really nothing more than a lame attempt to defuse looming embarrassment over the Palin family's wardrobe expenses? You have to wonder.

Looks more and more as though Sarah Palin is not so much a maverick as she is a typical old-school politician, who is out for Number One, is willing to say and do ANYTHING to get elected, and looks upon government as just another trough from which to get fat and happy (except THIS trough is public, not private).

Double standards

John Edwards's $400 haircut was big news that dominated the MSM's campaign coverage for at least a week if not more. Meanwhile, these stories are getting absolutely no attention, from what I can tell. Is this because SP is a woman? (Doesn't fully explain it, since McCain's $5K makeup job got no coverage either, and on the flip side, stories about Hillary's hair, makeup, and clothing were omnipresent while she was a candidate.) I simply can't believe the utter hypocrisy of squawking about how much you love the "real" America and how you are feeling the middle class's pain while you strut around the country in $100,000 worth of designer clothing. I've been wondering for weeks now how she has been able to afford looking so stylish (photos from before she joined the ticket demonstrate that her selection of clothing in her Alaska days was WAY more frumpy and - dare I say it - "real American"), and now we know. And no one seems to care. Fascinating.

Actually Kev, you can see all the way to Tiffanys!

In Palin's Defense

She knows she's going to lose, so why not cash in on all those campaign donations.

After all, if Republicans know how to do anything with efficiency, it's how to steal from the poor to give to the rich.

Evita...

"I'm their prophet, they need to adore me, so Christian D'Or me from my head to my toes..."

There's a lot of trailer trash out there taking great comfort from the fact that their idol looks smart and well-made up...it's her right/job as their representative against the elites....but one wonders why they couldn't have clothed her at Marshalls or Target? Saks seems so New Yorkey -- and not very pro-America proAmerica.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 06:55 AM

well

As a Minnesotan, I'm glad they spent so much in our state. I guess?

Is this what trickle down feels like?

AHhahahaha Oh God, I'm dying!

It's been said,

"you can put lipstick on a pig"...

We all can now add: "expensive clothes"

Nothing gets those low information voters hot more than a well heeled heel...

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 06:59 AM

This is a "hockey mom"?

The ludicrous clothing bill these people ran up gives the lie to any pretense of being part of the "real America" they may want to display.

Then again, isn't this what real Republicans are all about? Looting the treasury (any convenient treasury will do, apparently) while claiming to "look out for the little guy"?

I know, I know, it's long past the "wake up, America" time - still, it bears repeating: These people will say and do anything to appease the gullible while enriching themselves at others' expense.

And now that I think about it, it does make perfect sense that a looter like Palin would be the running mate of a guy who has to ask his staff how many houses he owns.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 07:00 AM

An idea

The campaign has issued a damage-control response that they will be donating the clothes to charity after the campaign.

Why not put them on eBay like that plane?

Taxes

According to Tax experts Sarah Palin is going to have to pay taxes on that 150,000.00 worth of clothing, I wonder if she knew that?

Says you. If this is so, then produce some evidence or shut the fuck up.
