McCain "absolutely" proud of RNC 9/11 mailer

John McCain says he has no problems with a pamphlet that asserts Barack Obama believes terrorists "just need a good talking to."

The letters thread is now closed.

What Terrorists Need...

...is to hear that their families are safe, their children are safe, and there will be no more war against them for no apparent reason. Too bad, McCain, but Georgie Boy has ruined it for you again. Maybe the Georgians will take you, since you're one of them.

Street Fighters

Bellicose, belligerent, pugnacious.

The grand old party plays rough.

Think of a street fighter.

Questioning the patriotism of a man

who lost three limbs in Viet Nam.

That was a knee in the groin.

Suggesting that the adopted daughter

of a senator was a bastard black child.

That was a thumb in the eye.

Demeaning the record of a senator who

was wounded three times in Viet Nam.

That was a head butt.

Claiming that a senator attended a

Muslim madras.

That was a sucker punch.

Obama a Terrorist lover says Joh

Now I know McCain is losing it! I wonder if he is in the first stages of Alzheimers? Just like Ron Reagan who didn't know we were backing the Contras. We need a young man who still has all his marbles.

why doesn't anyone bring up the fact that John's very pretty first wife was injured in an accident that took away her looks. When he returned to USA, they both were in therapy. That's when the skunk began a very long string of affairs with other women. Guess all he dreamed of in prison was how many women he could bed! I could never trust a man who cheats on his wife because she loses her looks through no fault of her own. Not trustworthy. Guess all those millions from Cindy made his p---s calm down.

Palin had a relationship w/her husband's partner--she says not comsumated-because hubby was gone so long on trips. Poor lonesome baby! So no hugs, kisses or squeezing? Betcha not! What kind of nincompoops are these.

Wouldn't trust either one to be my President!!! Might throw me to the sharks!

Interesting, since this is already Republican doctrine wrt Islam.

These people really do have a set. I mean, they can't *just* be projecting; they surely remember that Ann of Connecticut has already said this, right?

Ann C: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."

The RNC, projecting madly: "Islamic extremists want our laws changed, our culture destroyed and our families converted"

Well, shee-yit. At least the Islamic folks want a legal framework for it.

So, even the RNC is conceding that they're a few rungs lower on the ladder of law and order than the Islamic guys? Good admission, RNC. Did you know you were making it?

He's Come Undone

Wow! I keep on thinking their campaign cannot possibly sink lower... and then a new bar of low is set. The words to the Beatles' tune (with slight variations) keeps running through my head:

He's come undone

He didn't know what he was heading for

And when he found what he was heading for

It was too late!

SAD

There is now no lie too bald-faced for John McCain to embrace. history is written by the winners, and once he loses this campaign, his reputation will be permanently sullied.

@ underanothername

I too used to wonder why the Salon boards are such a playground for bots and spammers...

Whenever you wonder such a thing, consider the simplest possible answer:

Salon supports and encourages trolls, bots, and spammers on the message boards because they believe it inflates their page-view metrics, which is better for the bottom-line.

If that's not a satisfactory answer (it's not for me, certainly), then consider this (paranoiac) possibility:

Salon supports and encourages trolls, bots, and spammers because they have some kind of backroom deal to get a rev-share from all the webshites that the spammers are promoting here.

(I've unchecked my "auto-renew" box because of this. I'll renew as soon as they fix the message boards.)

Again, I ask

If Obama is a terrorist, or has links to terrorists that indicate he intends to harm the US, why hasn't Bush's domestic surveillance picked up on this, instead of allowing him to infiltrate the Senate and now run for the highest office in the country? Why isn't Obama being detained and questioned? Could it be because this is all bullshit?

The thing that discourages me the most about McCain's campaign is that within its arena it has made it perfectly acceptable to be a fearful, vocal bigot again. I grew up near DC in the 60s and remember the race riots. I hate to see us devolve into that mentality again. "He's not like you and me," "he sees the country differently than we do," etc., etc. That's all true, but not for the reason they'd like us to think; he's smarter than McCain and Palin put together, and has a clear vision for the country's future.

What do you expect froma torture victim who has condoned torture?

John McCain spent years fighting against the torture policy of Bush/Cheney. Then he decided to run for president. Whoops. Everything he fought against, he suddenly decided was okay.

That's change you can't believe in.

McCain proud of so much ugliness.

When I read this article about McCain's pride, I immediately thought of an old funny that is making the rounds again.

"The following is the winning entry from an annual contest at a university calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year's term was Political Correctness.

The winner wrote:

'Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.' "

@Thorin01

"And I'd give the odds about 1-5 that we'll hear it [the "n-word"] shouted at one of Palin's rallys."

What makes you think we haven't already? There's a possibility (backed by some evidence) that it may have been said, but it wasn't reported because there are some words the American media won't print or say even when they're newsworthy.

As it happens I wrote an OpenSalon piece about this the other day; click the link in my signature to read it.
