THE LITTLE ACORN THAT COULD CHANGE AN ELECTION
The Democratic machine politicians in Obama’s adopted home town of Chicago virtually codified that party’s injunction to its ward-heelers to get out the vote by any and every means necessary, to vote early and often. Amazingly, even the dead were known to vote in the Windy City.
Now, the shamelessly corrupt organization, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, ACORN, is taking the Chicago model national. From tiny acorns the mighty oaks do grow and this shadowy ACORN has been growing new voters mightily, and suspiciously.
Its office in Nevada was raided Tuesday by Nevada authorities searching for concrete evidence of voter registration fraud, ACORN workers have been jailed in Missouri, and in the state of Washington, “they signed a consent decree . . . to avoid criminal prosecution, . . . the management and the organization of ACORN acknowledged that if they were to continue activity as they had been they would subject to criminal liability.”
The Nevada raid dispelled any notion that it was a partisan investigation since it was organized by that state’s secretary of state, Ross Miller, a Democrat.
This is one nasty acorn, active also in Connecticut, Wisconsin, and Ohio, all, coincidentally, swing states in this year’s presidential sweepstakes. Not content with signing up legal registrants, ACORN, which has endorsed Obama, registered the (names of) Tony Romo and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys’ starting lineup.
On top of being perverse, ACORN also doesn’t seem very bright.
Brightness reigns supreme in the newsroom and editorial board of the so-called “Paper of Record,” the New York Times,... (Read the rest of this article @ http://genelalor.com/.)
If you really want to see what the folks on the right are thinking & how increasingly delusional they are, go look at FreeRepublic.com.
They call Obama "Barry", they insist the polls are rigged and that Obama is a commie. Amongst other things.
Occasionally they will complain about boy-Bush, never admitting that they were telling us 4/8 years ago boy-Bush was the 2nd coming.
pass the popcorn....
And McCain blames Democrats. Cynically pandering to the delusional. This questioner guy now will be a big star in his millieu. This is the sort of thing that passes for wisdom.
Is "USA! USA! USA!"
This is getting scary.
I have to say he might have a point if only he bothered to take a look at the economy.
He should particularly have a look at Henry Paulson, Bush Administration appointee, who now wants to semi-nationalize the banking system.
Frankly, I hear this socialism charge all the time in these threads from McCain supporters, but I never hear much from them about how the econmy actually works. Characteristically, I hear more about cultural issues and abortion. For far too many of them, socialism means religions or beliefs other than right-wing Christian, absurd and unsubstantiated charges about Ayers and terrorism, and even more absurd, concerns about the breakdown of traditional gender roles.
One idiot assured me that Todd Palin was a real macho man and that Sarah Palin was real woman and that their marriage actually threatened all of us who weren't male or female enough.
Up next: Sarah and Todd having real sex to save us from socialism.

I wonder what the questioner thought about McCain's answer. If Obama really is a socialist/terrorist/threat to America, bipartisanship will only make the problem worse. If Obama is that bad, the only solution is to throw him in jail.
I'm really worried about the tone things have taken, and things will likely get worse. Even if Obama wins, a significant portion of the population will be convinced that the presidency has been usurped by a terrorist. How can we solve our problems if the nation is that polarized?
That's exactly what I was thinking, that "USA, USA" has become the new "Zeig HEIL!!" This is one of the most alarming developments I've seen.
A quarter of this country still thinks George Bush is doing a good job, and I'm sure they are mad that the other 76% is actually going to take the reins for a few years. A display of anger like that is totally inimical to responsible participation in the democratic process, and has no place at a political event, much less in the presence of an actual candidate for president. As an aside, someone should ask that guy whether he plans to give his "socialist" security money back, if he feels so strongly about it. Until I see all these furious right wing voters mailing back their medicare and social security checks, it's kind of hard to take rants like that seriously.
I think the best way to reduce the polarization is for Obama to have a successful presidency. If in four years he wins handily and serves two terms and we end up much better off than we are now, then a lot of the nonsense will fade away.
There will still be opposition, but it might not be so vehement.
Any organization that helps poor people vote and find housing must be evil. (Oh yes, and some of those folks are black.)
ACORN is just a little acorn.
If the investment banks and the credit default swaps bettors weren't lining their own pockets for a while, thinking the ride would never end, there would be no meltdown.
It's unfortunate that McCain/Palin/Fox are cynically fanning the fires of hatred the way they are -- it just reinforces my fear that even if/when Obama wins, a chunk of the country will simply not accept it as legitimate. Never mind that their leaders actually stole two presidential elections -- they'll want blood when they find their people out of power.
The antidote, I think, will be sound and sensible policy that brings actual, tangible benefits to the same angry hordes who are gnashing their teeth in rage (paradoxically enough, the policies that have enraged them are the ones the GOP inflicted on the country). Eventually, as people see their day-to-day lives improve from Obama's administration policies, they'll be forced to grudgingly accept that they are better off.
It still won't keep the shameless GOP from playing the fascist card, trying to get people pissed off and crazy-mad enough to act against their larger interests, but it'll hopefully peel off enough of a majority that only the diehard mouthbreathers and flat-earthers will be left in the GOP.
