Foreign policy shift

Palin should be shakier now but will probably just go on attack.

The letters thread is now closed.

Hee!

Maybe they can bring together the Talibanis with the Bosniacs.

So far, Biden is really impressing. Palin has had some decent moments, but overall, she's over her head and is showing it.

When in doubt....

switch the conversation to Darfur--a human rights catastrophe that we enlightened Americans can all point to, no matter what party.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:07 PM

So what'd the meter do when Palin repeated the discredited "voted against funding the troops" line?

Are people watching the debate remembering Biden's answer and Obama's original answer?

It's hard to drop a rehearsed line even when it's been explained as untrue. (see: Bridge to Nowhere)

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:07 PM

Stupid grin

I hate how she grins when Biden is speaking as if she's silently saying that everything he says is a lie.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:07 PM

Transparently. . .

Terrible rebuttal by Palin on refuting Biden re: Iraq. . . last foreign policy question.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:09 PM

I hope Biden doesn't sound too angry

I've been watching the green and yellow graphs on CNN for men's and women's reactions to each speaker, and Biden's look better, which is great. But it served Obama better than I thought to stay calm and unruffled, and Biden is definitely showing some irritation. He looks much smarter (not hard), and doesn't say nukular, and he's my favorite person on earth right this second--I just hope his demeanor helps him.

Condescending

What I find amazing is that, not only is Palin coming across as rehearsed and shallow, but also condescending. She spouts some tired talking point and then smirks as if she just landed a "you're no Jack Kennedy" zinger.

Biden vs Obama administration

I thought Ms. Ifill was asking what Senator Biden would do if he was the one who was elected President not what he'd do if President Obama, eh, died.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:11 PM

Weirding me out....

Why the heck is Gov. Palin winking at us?

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:11 PM

the Bush Doctrine

Woohoo! Way to go Joe, referencing her ignorance of what the Bush doctrine is!

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:12 PM

The Aleutian Candidate....

Where did they hide the Queen of Hearts?

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:14 PM

Whenever Palin says not to look at the past...

Biden should point out that it's not surprising that the Republicans would want the voters to forget the last eight years.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:14 PM

There are no points for poise!

Why is she constantly grinning to the camera? Its not a beauty contest. So much for her pitbull persona.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:14 PM

make her please stop...

winking....it looks so, so tacky.......

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:14 PM

She just tried a Reagan quip

"Say it ain't so, Joe..." Harrdy Harr Harr! Snore...

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:15 PM

say it ain't so Joe, there you go again!

Err ... someone must have said to her: "You gotta find a good, biting, tagline that ticks! Something with the resonance of 'There you go, again!' or 'Say it ain't so, Joe!'"

And she used them instead of coming up with her own.

It's as eloquent as saying "Your name here" or "drop page."

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:17 PM

Read the consitution, Sarah!

Palin clearly had no clue about what Cheney said re: the Constitution!

Thursday, October 2, 2008 07:34 PM

"She had a nice convo with Henry Kissinger. Did they draft him for debate prep?"

Yes.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 09:35 PM

Ah ha! That's why!

She asked Biden if she could call him Joe so that she could say "Say it ain't so, Joe".

"Say it ain't so, Senator Biden" doesn't have the same folksy ring to it.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 09:43 PM

Did she drop a "nukular" in there

Oh yeah, she always says "nukular", just like her idol W. I wonder if she really says it like that or if she's been coached and trained to say it that way in order to seem more folksy??

Friday, October 3, 2008 07:00 AM

It was nukular

I sat behind the dias at the RNC and watched the teleprompter as Sarah Palin took the stage for the first time. Every time the word 'nuclear' came up in her speech, the teleprompter kindly spelled it out for her: NEW-CLEAR

She still got it wrong.
